Held Action Rephrased
Actually, there was a legitimate game mechanic question there ("how does this work?"). Let me rephrase the question. Page 235 "he loses any Held Action when the next Segment in which he has a Phase begins, because he can only have one Phase at a time." With the rule above in mind, how does a character do the following fairly standard and common action using the game mechanics? "I want to shoot the first guy who comes through that doorway, even if I have to wait one second or ten seconds for that to occur?"

Simulating physical attacks through RSR Limitation (followup)
Thanks for your reply to my question about RSR Limitations, but I just had a few minor followups: (1) Your answer to part 2 of my earlier three-part question (despite my having said my question was "twofold" - aargh; added the third part at the last minute and didn't go back and reread the beginning of my post) - that an Attack Roll has been used for a Required Skill Roll in the past - pretty much answered what I needed, and I think that's how I'm going to go ahead and do what I wanted. But what would such a Required Skill Roll be worth? Would it be just the same as a Basic RSR Limitation (-1/2), or would it be -3/4 since it's kind of subject to a Skill Versus Skil…

General rules question
Greetings: Ok, I am new to the Hero System so please forgive my ignorance. Reading through the Talents section of the core rules I notice that on some of the talents this like this will be listed: "Extra Time [5 Minutes;-2], Requires An EGO Roll [-1/2]; total cost: 4 points);+1 to the EGO Roll per +1 Character Point (+1 Skill Level with EGO Roll, Only To Enter Trance (-1))." This is confusing to me...I understand the Extra Time portion, that you would get a -2, but the other stuff is a little daunting to try to apply...can someone (in lamens terms) please explain it to me? Thank you in advance for being patient for my understanding on this. Regards,…

Multiform
If I remember correctly, in previous versions, if the points in Multiform exceeded the cost of the base character, you had to pay points at a 1:1 ratio. Is this still the case in the 5th edition? Aylwin

Advantages on HA and martial arts
I have a teleporting martial artist who has a 5d6 area effect, selective HA. Now, I know I can add my STR 40/12 = 3d6 to increase that to 8d6. My question is; can I add martial arts to that as well? And if so, how many dice would I be able to add? Aylwin

Advantaged HAs and Str
Page 272 says I can add STR up to the unmodified active points of the HA without paying for the advantage on STR. This means that for every die of HA I can add a die of str damage since they both cost 5cp. Does this count for every advantage? Armor Piercing and Penetrating seem obvious. What about Area of effect? Can my whole attack (plus str) affect desolid or be NND (just stun)? Does double knockback double the KB from str? How about an Autofire Punch? Are there any advantages besides Ranged I can't use with a HA and not add STR? Lastly, how does Reduced Endurance interact with this? If some advantages allow "free" STR and some don't, could we …

drain usable by other power
Hello Steve, In the FAQ, we find : Q: What happens if a character Dispels or Suppresses a granted power on the recipient? On the grantor? A: If the recipient’s power is Dispelled/Supressed, it affects only him. If the grantor’s power to grant the power is Dispelled/Suppressed, any current recipients of that power lose it. What would be the limitation on a power UBO that is drained/suppressed when ANY of the recipient is drained/suppressed. I presume it would be -1/4.

Area effect damage shield
I am building a character that can exude a noxius cloud of smoke around himself. I have purchased it as a 2d6 explosive NND with no range and 0 end. I want the cloud to remain centered on the character and affect anyone walking into it. Do I have to apply the damage shield advantage to the power?

Simulating physical attacks through RSR Limitation
Okay, after having asked a question previously that turned out to be answered in the Rules FAQ (sorry about that - I hadn't realized there was a Rules FAQ until then), this time I made sure I searched thoroughly to make sure my question hadn't already been answered. And in fact I found that it had - but I just wanted a little clarification. Anyway, so, this is a followup to your answer to patv's question here: he asked if a No Range mental Power required, or could be made to require, an OCV Attack Roll (which is the same question I had), and your answer included the following: So, my question is twofold: (1) To simulate an OCV Attack Roll, it seems…

Mind Scan / Mind Control
Am I correct that if a Mentalist has a Mind Scan lock on to a target he cannot use Mind Control on the target unless the Mind Control is bought telepathic?

Mental Feedback Question
Can a player take the "feedback" limitation (I think is what it is called, away from book right now) on Telepathy or Mind control w/telepathy advantage? If so should it be at the same value as Mind link?

Sweep with CSLs
While discussing the values of CSLs versus high DEX scores, another participant brought a FAQ exchange where it was said that the 3-pts Combat Skill Level (or the 2-pts one, for that matter) does not apply when making a Sweep manoeuver, even if the said sweep is done with an attack covered by the said CSL. Is that so? And if it is, is there a good reason not to? Thanks.

Entangle: nature of DEF
Hello it's a basic issue but i didn't find any reference to it. What's the nature of (resistant) DEF of a entangle. i.e. does the entangle take damage from a drain or a AVLD vs Power Defense, does body attack. this is the same issue for Flashs and AVLD vs Flash Defense (aside the "stops given sense" adder). how to apply the DEF of the Entangle in that case ? is it ignored ?

Just making sure...
So then, the Janus Key for Dr. Macabre (CU p14) is built on the wrong number of points? As an aside, is «Age» concidered a disad in for Champions characters? Thanks for the clarifications!

Switching Mental Class
A battlesuit character wants to simulate the computer in his suit taking over when he's knocked out. However, he doesn't want to deal with more than one character sheet (via triggered Multiform, etc) or other complicated mechanics. The character has 25 base STUN, and buys 25 extra STUN through the OIF (the character could also be a cyborg, which means the extra STUN wouldn't be bought via a focus). He then adds the Physical Limitation "Switches to robotic mindset when below 1/2 STUN", which switches his Psych Lims to an equal point value of Psych Lims appropriate to the robot form, and switches his mental class from human to machine. The human form being knocked…

Damage Shield, Elemental Control, and Multiple Power Attacks...
Because you can never ask too arcane of a question The rules specifically prohibt Multiple Power Attacks from two or more slots in an Elemental Control (FREd pg 204) -- without GM permission. Let's ignore that permission issue for the purpose of this question Would this mean that a character with two different Damage Shields as seperate slots in the same EC couldn't have them both active at the same time? I realize a Damage Shield is not technically an attack, but it seems that the same logic (effectively getting two "attacks" for the price of one) would apply. Thank you for your time.

Additive adders?
I just had a problem with with extra-dimensional movement and HD. dsimon said this about the adders to Extra-Dimensional Movement: "20 Character Points to transport the Character to any single location in a single other dimension. +5 Character Points for any location in a single other dimension = 25 points total +10 Character Points for any location in a related group of dimensions = 20+5+10 = 35 points total +10 character Points for any location in any dimention = 20+5+10+10 = 45 points total" I was wondering if that is right. If it is then Dr. Macabre Janus Key (CU p.14) is in need of some errata, because the AP for the power seems to be 35…

Takes No Stun Defensive Power Reasoning
Hi Steve: You said this... What is the reasoning behind the decision? Why should a defense that has nothing to do with PD/ED cost 3x as much? This does not make sense to me...is it because it stops attacks which can do STUN? Enlighten me oh guru... FYI. Thank gosh I'm a GM...my concept for a Force Wall weilding automaton villain is REALLY expensive...

Jerrico Effect part two
1) On the question you did not understand: Assume Joey had 5 Stun, then he buys +30 Stun usable by others (Joey now has 35 stun), he would not need to buy it transdimensional however (as per the last question) Joey gets hit by a attack causing 8 stun after defenses, he is now at 27 stun Joey uses the power to take over the KO'd Fred, thus traveling to "Inside body dimension" (That raises another question), assume Fred had a Stun of 0 Would Fred have 30 stun or would he have 22 (30-8)? Would Joey have 5 or -3? 2) Assuming you are using EDM to explain where the body goes would it be a single dimension or a group of dimesions (Victom's Mind) 3) …

Area of Effect and Metnal Attacks
Hi Steve! I'll try not to keep you from FH for too long. I posted this in the other board to see if I was missing anything, but wound up here anyway. Here's the question: How is an EGO attack resolved if it's Area effect. Is the target hex dECV 3? I managed to find a little snippet in the FAQ about being able to dive for cover against such attacks, which indicates to me that you *can* target a hex with a mental AOE. Thanks for your time.

Automatons
Does an automaton that takes no stun, pay triple for missile deflection/reflection or desolidification? If an automaton's defenses are drained, do they lose at the normal 2 for 1 rate, or effectively at 6 for 1?

The Jerico effect
Working on my version of the Jerico Effect (I have seen yours, like it, but want to try a couple of other ways before I decide on how to do it in my games) and i have a few rules questions: 1) Can a character switch a power from "standard effect" to normal or must he decide on one or the other when the power is designed (also if the latter, is there an advantage to let it be both) 2) If/Can Stun is bought UBO, and if so is it the stun "On top" (the jerico effect includes waking up KO'd opponents) 3) If a power is bought UBO would it require Transdimensional to keep the power if the character traveled to another dimension? (Planning on using EDM for getting…

Same Power Twice
A character has bracers that are the source of certain powers bought as a multipower. Each bracer has a complete set of the exact same powers so the character can perform the same or different actions with each. The bracers include some continuing powers like stretching and swinging plus some instant powers like EB. For this kind of power would it be adequate to just double the multipower reserve so that two powers could be used at once (and say the powers could emanate from either bracer) or should the entire power be bought twice.
