Anyone else ever want to say something here' date=' then erased it before posting it because you realized that no good could ever come out of your comment?[/quote']

Not so much in Random Musings, but frequently in reponses in other threads. Particularly to a certain poster.

Re: Musings on Random Musings

My mom and stepdad came up from South Carolina last night, and bought my wife birthday dinner. Mom called me first and asked me to pick a place, so she could be there ahead of us to surprise Dede (my wife) when we got there. So I picked a decent Italian place that we hadn't been to in a few years. Turns out, it is now a very nice Italian restaurant, and was kinda pricy. I felt bad for picking such a pricy place, but my wife just said, "Hon, don't you think she owes you a few good meals?" So I stopped worrying about it.

Nothing like a good wife to put things in perspective.

On a side note, my son, who is 10, was saying comments about Italians that were a little awkward. I said, "Son - where did you pick this stuff up? You do know that you are Italian, right?" He was stunned. Turns out that I have never really talked to him about his heritage. And apparently it has confused him that his white mostly italian dad is named Jose . . . But still, the fact that he is picking up prejudices, apparently from neighborhood friends, really bothers me.

Where in SC? We used to live in Charleston and Greenville (but not at the same time! :D ).

Sounds like your son got a good lesson right out of the box at least. Good luck, I'm sure it's a phase, basically, and I am sure your obviously good parenting will give him the appropriate foundation for his future. I went through a prejudiced phase - but it was in college of all times/places. I was raised with a very liberal worldview and didn't believe stereotypes at all. When I got to both college and the big city (Boston) at the same time, the degree to which some people acted out certain stereotypes, as well as my rebellious attitude wherein I was rejecting what I'd learned in youth (sophomoric period in many ways for me), put me into an unfortunate mindset for a time. But having had a good upbringing and getting over that period got me back on track.

Re: Musings on Random Musings

We need more dollar theatres.

Or, at the very least, less theatres that approach $10 per ticket. Hell, I could buy a DVD for that nearly!

That's one thing I like about the pub theaters here, they're like $3-$6, somewhere therabouts and depending on the movie, and you can sit and have a meal and a drink in reasonable comfort. The movies are second-run, but that's fine. Which reminds me, I really want to see I, Robot, I'm hoping that might be in the pub theaters. I totally missed Punisher which is now on DVD.

I don't even want to think about some of the snarky things i have started to say. :(

Oh yeah. Some of my "first drafts" are sights to behold. Heck' date=' there was one time I actually posted some scathing posts and edited them immediately... though not before someone saw them and said they liked my originals better. Go figure.[/quote']

My IMPRESSION (never having been to Italy - but having been to Europe) is that some things really aren't so generically European - like lots of Euros really don't have queueing down. But anyway, it was really amusing, thx Klytus!

Lamrok once said Friday was his favorite weekday was "it's full of...possibilities" (or imagined possibilities, something like that). I thought that was a neat statement.

Re: Musings on Random Musings

So I have been wondering' date=' has this phrase ever been meant literaly. We often throw it around, but do we think about what it really means. "Frank couldn't make a cappaciono to [i']save his life[/i]."

Has anyone put this theory to the test? Has someone walked into Starbucks, dropped a .44 Auto-mag on the counter and said, "Frank! One cappaciono, dry."

Drink gets placed on the 'pick-up' counter

The man takes a slow sip, "Hmm, this cappaciono tastes like ass."

"Bob, would you like to try your hand at a cappaciono?"

This is pretty funny, thanks!

Re: Musings on Random Musings

A pornstar wants to break the Anal Gangbang record by having 150 of her fans take turns in her tush. She has a website and a sign up form. This seems messed up' date=' even to me.[/quote']

I don't know about messed up, but those marathon gangbangs don't interest even me (and I like some pretty out there stuff). Mainly they just seem too much like lots of effort with no fun, a "hurry up and do it" proposition, at least the ones I've seen, as compared to a "regular" gangbang (if well done).

I saw that first big film about a record-setting gangbang, the one with Annabelle Chong. The cut-off point was when she (allegedly anyway) was getting a tear and therefore bleeding, so they had to stop. The announcer/compere said it was due to guys' fingernails, dunno. In any event, seeing your post reminded me of that, and I would certainly think what you described is fraught with risk but then again, bear in mind, the woman probably has considerable "training" with objects larger than what will be used.

Am I suppose to reply to this? ;)

Yes, I do understand that concept but it is usually on a political thread that I have come to that realization.

No, though the comment I eventually did not post was sparked by something you, yourself, posted about getting negative rep right before Ben shut that function down. Or rather, the last negative rep I got, which according to the rather pugilistic commentary was because the person in question basically blamed me for the shut-down of the Musings About Random Musings thread.

Re: Musings on Random Musings

It was a socially acceptable way to give someone the finger that kept such comments off-thread.

Depends on the severity of the comment. I've received some that would scorch your hair, because of posts I made that everyone else seemed to think were innocuous.

Re: Musings on Random Musings

I think Trump's The Apprentice is morally repugnant. It symbolizes much of what is wrong with this country - a callous disregard for developing talent carefully' date=' inclusion fo MBAs to do things instead of people qualified in an industry, a disregard for firing people (even if just symbolic, with all the rhetorically good intent in the world, saying you "enjoy" firing people and looking forward to it is horrible), and a desire for immediate gratification.[/quote']

The whole thing reminds me of the Lilliputian political system where political offices are determined by whoever can tightrope walk the furthest...

Is it a bad sign when real life starts doing things seriously that first appeared as satire?
