However' date=' I suspect that there will be things in there about Canada that I disagree with simply because Scott is from British Columbia and I am from Ontario and people from the two provinces often have different views on the same subjects. Hugh Neilson
Re: Champions Of The North The Great Canadian Stereotypes include: 1. All Canadians Are Neat, Fastidious, And Incredibly Polite Fact: It’s well-known that the strongest curse-word in the Canadian vocubulary is “darn.” Try as you might, it’s hard to rile a Canadian... or make him stop cleaning the place up. The problem being, as a nation of immigrants, there's very few actual Canadian in Canada. Too bad - maybe my office wouldn't be such a mess. 2. There’s Snow In Canada In Summer! Fact: Well, duh — it’s Canada. The second you set foot over the border you start to see a few flakes in the air; within a mile or so snow covers everything. Canadians long ago abandoned the common car for the snowmobile. I've seen it snow every month but July... 3. Canada Is Socialist! Fact: Canada is, in fact, socialist. Possibly even communist. Why else would all those liberal hippy pinkos have fled there to avoid the draft? We do, however, allow international competition, unlike some anti-free trade countries who levy trade tariffs even after they are found to constitute protectionist measures koffsoftwoodlumberkoff by the world courts. 4. The Canadian Dollar Is Worth Half As Much As The American Fact: The Canadian dollar is worth 1/10 of the American. Check the current exchange rates... 5. All Canadians Say “Eh” Fact: No doubt about it, eh. Like, I missed that one, y'all. Howzabout sayin' it again? Eh. 6. Canadians Like To Call Each Other “Hoser” Fact: Untrue. They actually like to call each other “Betty.” As my grandfather used to say, "Call me anything but late for dinner". 7. Every Canadian Has Tim Horton’s Donuts And Shops At Canadian Tire Fact: I thought every Canadian dressed like Red Green. But whatever. Actually, Timbo's coffee is much more popular than its donuts. 8. Quebec Separatists Are Terrorists! Fact: Absolutely. Anyone who likes French that much is clearly of questionable morality and mental competence. Even if they’re not terrorists, Quebeckers should be shot on general principle. There's a reasonably strong opinion that the western provinces should separate from the rest of the country so THEY get stuck with Quebec... 9. Canadian Superheroes Would Be Government Pawns! There are superheroes in Canada? I didn’t know any Canadians wanted to get that involved. Coming from the nation that thinks WW II began December 7, 1941... rjcurrie
Re: Champions Of The North I got the book yesterday, and I like it. I was slightly disappointed that there was no mention made of the fact that my hometown's (Edmonton) slogan is "City of Champions", but you can't have everything! In the Champions Universe, Edmonton was forced to drop the slogan in 2002 following a trademark infringement suit brought by Defender and company. Roth
Re: Champions Of The North *thinks* Okay. Only 300 miles? umm it's a lot further than that*L*. According to a rough estimate looking at Google Maps it's closer to 800 km (about 500 miles). And... okay so it is pretty far north from a view of People in Ontario and BC living closer to the border.. but what about the rest of the country*G*

The geography can certainly get interesting . Many people are surprised to learn that Windsor, ON is actually south of Detroit MI.

Dr. MID-Nite
Re: Champions Of The North Having at least done a bit better than a cursory glance at the book, I can safely say I like it. Well written, lots of writeups, and plenty of plot hooks. I must say though, the power level for some of these characters is through the roof. While the Canadian superteam isn't to obscene, most of the individual characters are. Celestar and his Supress all energy powers/Drain energy defenses combo is really REALLY nasty. All the bad guys had very large attacks. I pity the Canadian supers who would end up facing Necrull or Borealis or Tillingkoot. Rob

And of course, you have to remember that I live in southwestern Ontario -- most of the country is pretty far north . And as I say, 90% of the country lives within 200 miles of the US border, so most would find 500 miles a bit more northerly.

death tribble
Re: Champions Of The North I have bought the book. Nice to see Borealis back. And isn't it great to have a loyal and true member of the Commonwealth instead of having books devoted to the traitors to the South who declared Independence ? That'll never last anyway. FenrisUlf
Re: Champions Of The North Got it, like it, especially "Rex, Wonder Dog of Tomorrow." And the potential story idea with Celestar sounds good, as one of my favorite character is someone who got dimensional manipulation powers. And Necrull is nasty. Hmm, I wonder -- with all these necromantic/death-powered villains showing up, is any of that due to Takofanes' influence? After all, in several of the Turakian Age books, it does state that when he began his rise to power he drew other evil beings towards him... FenrisUlf
Re: Champions Of The North What' date=' CoN has the return of REX THE WONDER DOG...I have ALWAYS loved that character, is there a character sheet, or just a refrence? Does not matter I have 2 copies of Normals Unbound, but COOL...[/quote'] I have the book in front of me. On page 22, it mentions Rex Sterling, Hound of Tomorrow, a 'spybusting black labrador'. He used to team up with Dr. Cerebro, the World's Smartest Man, to fight saboteurs and criminals in Ottawa. I agree, though, Rex needs a writeup ASAP. Hey, we all need a wonder dog character, right?
