Once you take the Thing, the Thing becomes points. You're not going to become "the Dude with the Thing." Heck, the fact you're not illuminated by the enormous light from the heavens that's always on the Dude with the Thing, should be a dead giveaway that you're not the Dude just because you took the Thing.
