Theme: Names and powers inspired by the nicknames of American professional sports franchises

For those of us not of American extraction some help would be appreciated. ie I know the Packer fans are referred to as Cheese Heads. Cleveland had the Dawg Pound. Is it this that you want ? I don't know nicknames for Basketball, Baseball or American Football but I do know team names.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

I am Sir Dumachus of Bari, a Knight of Saint Nicholas. For Nicholas is the patron of merchants, archers, sailors, and thieves - and I have been all of those things at one time, for I was a pirate a long time ago. A very long time ago.

My purse is empty, but it will fill with gold only for a chld's need - to redeem a child from slavery or to purchase bread for one who starves.

My quiver is empty, but I will draw and nock an arrow only for a child's need - to strike down whatever threatens, whether mortal, beast, or devil.

My compass is broken and worthless, but will work only to serve a child's need - pointing the way to home or parents.

My key is rusted and bent, but it will open a lock only to serve a child's need - no door will bar the way, where a child leads me.

Lucius Alexander

The palindromedary suggests that Dumachus probably has all kinds of interesting skills and knowledges on top of the mystical toys....

Background/History: Sir Dumachusof Bari is one of "The Knights of Saint Nicholas. It's actually a secret society with roots back in the Middle Ages. Its members are sworn to protect and defend children, and punish those who harm them. It's never been a particularly large conspiracy, and has a high rate of burnout among its members due to the sheer immensity of wrong done to children in the world. The full number of members is not known, but there are four superpowered members who act as the public face of the organization. The job doesn't pay, as such, but when fulfilling a mission for the Knights, you'll have access to minimal food, shelter and transportation. Some of the members joke about "gnomes" preparing the necessary supplies." Credit for the quote to the mysterious masked man known only as SKJAM.

Sir Dumachus for example is reputed to be a thousand years old...

Personality/Motivation: Devoted to the welfare of children, and good with them.

Quote: I am Sir Dumachus of Bari, a Knight of Saint Nicholas. For Nicholas is the patron of merchants, archers, sailors, and thieves - and I have been all of those things at one time, for I was a pirate a long time ago. A very long time ago.

Powers/Tactics: My purse is empty, but it will fill with gold only for a chld's need - to redeem a child from slavery or to purchase bread for one who starves.

These items are represented as Restrainable or as Physical Manifestations because it is impossible to truly strip Dumachus of them - he always gets them back somehow, or identical items turn up that work the same way while a frustrated thief keeps shaking a purse no gold falls from or reaching into a quiver that remains stubbornly empty.

Campaign Use:

Appearance: Black hair and beard, olive skin, Dumachus generally looks like a typical Greek sailor. Many of his skills are outdated but he still works undercover as an ordinary seaman from time to time and knows his way around modern vessels.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

I apologise if I seem greedy on this but it made sense the longer I thought about it.

Trent, Trevor, and Treena McKinney are the children of a submarine captain stationed at the U.S. Navy submarine base at Bremerton, Washington across Puget Sound from Seattle. Trent is a engineering student at The University of Washington in his third year. Trevor is training to be a deep diving expert and has been since graduating high school a year ago. And Treena is a sophamore at the local high school. Trent and his insanely rich schoolmate were testing three lightweight but durable "rescue suits" with new tech and abilities that resembled a poor man's powered armour when the kids father's submarine went missing in treacherous waters. Trent wanted to use one of the suits though his collegue objected due to the various bugs still in the suits. Trevor and Treena took the other suits much against Trent's wishes but he could not talk them out of it. They lost their mother some years back and they were not about to lose their father, too. Trent's friend stayed at the lab to supervise and gave them each codenames to to identify themeselves. The McKinney's chose their own. Trent became SEAHAWK, Trevor became MARINER, and Treena became SOUNDER, The kids managed to master the suits and their bugs and rescued their father and the other 134 men of his crew. the Captain asked the armoured trio who were and Trent tried to hide the fact that his rescurers were his own children and therefore avoid getting in trouble for endangering himself and his siblings. He concocted a story that they were a Navy test project called Trident Blue and this was the purpose of the programme. This drew Captain McKinney's attention away from his kids but put it squarely on finding out just what department initiated the "Trident Blue Project" if for anything to thank the people who rescued him and his men.

For those out of the American sports loop; Seattle Seahawks (football), Seattle Mariners (baseball), and Seattle Sounders (soccer ( I absolutely, positively WILL NOT say or put F.C. at the end of their name)) I did three because not only do these teams share a nautical naming pattern but they share strikeingly similar color schemes.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

We have hockey, soccer, football, baseball, but no basketball. I don't know if the Knight of St. Nicholas was supposed to fit in but I am going to assume not and post the potential last member of the this team.

Goose Meadowlark has traveled the world. His red, white, and blue jacket is famed in every country. Very rarely is his real name mentioned in news stories. Reporters call him the Globetrotter.

The Knight was originally posted a year and a half ago, as part of the team running at the time; I just recently decided to do a full character sheet, so I posted it here.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

I like the idea of Dumachus. I would like to propose a round table of knights. These knights are the Knights of the Saints. There are seven in number. Each knight embodies the attributes of the saint he represents.

CES

I am not certain if the new team already started, but since I am at a loss regarding sports I just jump on this occasion:

Isildur Sevil (yes, his parents where fans of Lord of the Ring) was a normal computer programmer, until the day he was infected with a Computervirus (as in "jumped over from computer to human") and struck by a lightning bolt.

He got very good telekinesis (he can easily type at 10 meters distance to the keyboard) and some mild Empathy (on humans, not machines). He went by the name Isidor, the Patron of the Internet and computers but a lot of people call him Bones instead, because he got Dr. McCoys famous citate just right: "I'm a programmer/mentalist/telepath, not a doctor/telepath*/..." (*When he is in secret ID. He doesn't care that it isn't quite right anymore, he used it long before his accident).

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

the second knight makes his home in Chicago. Isaac Lake works as a doctor for Cook County Hospital, doing what he can to help those who need him. As the Knight of St. Jude, Lake shines when the fight is at its most hopeless and things are most desperate. That's when this hero does the impossible and makes it look easy.

Our current team is:

CES

So far we have:

Isidor, Patron of the Computer and the Internet

St. Jude

St. Christopher

Here is a listing of the saints:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_saints

And I even thow one more up:

Constantine. He had been a long established and powerfull hero. He actually was retired and originally his son Salvius - who could play manipulating songs on his flute - joined the Kinghts of the Saints. However his son was killed on the first mission with the team. In order to let his sons sacrifice not be in vain he took up the cape again and joined the Knights.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Next two are Xenia the Righteous (short: Xenia I) and Xenia II.

Originally they went both by Xenia but that was obviously confusing. And for some reason people only Xenia I's name, so the other one became simply known as Xenia II.

Xenia the Righteous: Like her namesake she flew from an unwanted arranged marriage. What makes her "odd" in the superhero community is that she comes from an arabian nation and wears as full traditional burqa (or the superhero equivalent, an armored burqa). Despite her heritage she is a christian and shows an humility only matched by her namesake.

Xenia II is - propably the exact opposite. While she has apparently has an vow of poverty similar to her namesake, a lot of people epress that this might meerly be an excuse to run around in rather skimpy outfit. That she does not seems to suffer any ill effects from from poverty (she has no need for food and looks and smells good no matter how her surroundigns are) and is rather "open" in spending time with people the other or same gender doesn't helps either.

But most people overlook two facts:

1) She actually has full brick powers. Her skin is supertough and she seems to augment her Martial Arts attacks with some sort of energy. She also can survive in harshest environments, from desert to outer space, without protection. On top of that she seems to regenerate and able to just walk out of any bonds or entangles.

2) She would give her life to do something good and jumps in harms way without second thought. That is why she lives every day as if there is no tomorrow.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

That looks like seven. Whomever can post the next idea is good to go.

CES

Here's an idea: The Home Team.

Probably thrown together as an ad hoc hero group, the only thing they have in common - unknown even to themselves - is that all were originally created by posters to the Hero boards.

You must include a link to a thread in which you have posted a write up for the hero. (Hopefully characters capable of working with others at least on a temporary basis.) It doesn't have to be yours if you want to showcase someone else's hero.

I'm going to say four to eight, depending on how participation goes.

Unless we go a couple days without at least four, let's try to restrict ourselves to one hero apiece.

Lucius Alexander

The palindromedary thinks Lucius could get 8 just with his own contributions but we don't want this to be "The Alexandrian Team"

You have to post one for this team first, before you can trhow in a new Team.

And please, not another one of those Teams. It's not like everyone and his dog has the hero designer around here, so it's propably only going to exclude 50-75% of the usual posters. Like the "Sports Team"-Team or the Saint Team (for most parts).

I already pointed out that you can post a character someone else posted. I also never specified that it had to be done on Hero Designer or have a Hero Designer file posted; just that a full mechanical character write up be already on the boards somewhere. Or posted here if it's new. I don't see how this either requires Hero Designer or how it excludes anyone.

In fact, looking back at Sir Dumachus, I not only didn't attach a Hero Designer file, there is no attachment at all; the character is just posted plaintext. The way I've always preferred to see them actually.

Okay, one more saint.

Sir Valdamar the Great claims to be inspired by St. Vladimir although critics say his indulgence in the pleasures of the bottle, the table, and the bed - with an astonishing variety of women - are unbecoming to anyone with pretensions to sanctity. Valdamar has sworn to travel the world doing good deeds, and never spends two nights in the same bed, nor three under the same roof, nor four within the same town or city. His virtues as a hero include strength, toughness, martial prowess, shrewd tactics, and inspiring leadership, and he is usually accompanied by a dozen agent-level followers alliteratively known as Valdamar's Varangian Vikings. While fighting crime and thwarting villains is always fun, Valdamar and his followers often show up to clean up after storms, pile sandbags where a flood is expected, help restore a church, or otherwise be of service to the communities he visits. Valdamar comes across as a very "take charge" leader but is readily cooperative, even deferential, when assisting a leader he respects on both pragmatic ("your plan will work") and moral ("we minimize risks to the innocent with that plan, brilliant!") grounds. He often says to local heroes "We just got here. I need YOU to tell us what's going on and how we can help." In the absence of a strong local leader, or if his own analysis is that the leader's plans are unsound or overly dangerous, he will assert himself and try to take control - either diplomatically or forefully, depending on what he feels is called for.

Lucius Alexander

The palindromedary says this is Lucius Alexander's favorite saint. Or maybe second favorite, after St. Agnes Blannbekin
