Silly thing to build

I presume you're making it resistant (there's little point in a non-resistant shield). The material would have to be significantly lighter than a normal shield of that size, so it folds. And when folded it's effectively disguised as an innocuous object -- a considerable advantage in many situations where more obvious weapons would be confiscated.

For that reason, in the real world many covert operators have disguised weapons as umbrellas. The KGB was notorious for using them in assassinations.

A shield is usually built as a multipower, a small Hand to Hand attack matched to a bonus to DCV. The bonus to DCV is generally considered a bonus to OCV when Blocking.

Add perhaps 1 meter reach (Stretching) and the rest is not the object but the training - a Martial Art including Grab, Disarm, Block, Jab, Trip, etc.

Have people forgotten about early Ranma 1/2 episodes with Ryouga Hibiki?
Humm... *blink* I guess Ranma is 'to old of an anime/manga series' for many of the newcomers here.

And, I was talking about Ryouga Hibiki's bamboo umbrella from his first appearance. It was rather heavy, he used it as a weapon, and rather well. He created a crator by jumping from a hight with his umbrella closed and thrusting down with it. He spun it like a top. He thrusted with it. And, once disarmed, some normal tried to pick it up and found it extremely heavy.
