  1. What version of Java do you have installed? HD will work with Java 6 or better, which is pretty much anything you'd actually have/want installed at this point. You can determine your Java version by opening a command prompt and entering: java -version
  2. Which icon are you double-clicking? The download is just a zip file...when unpacked, it will give you (among other files) HD6.jar -- that is the executable for the program and contains all information needed to run HD. Offhand, it sounds like you've got an old shortcut that you're clicking on rather than HD6.jar...
  3. Negative Adders have been around for a while - this was about negative level-based Adders
  4. Danke - pretty sure it's one of mine from years ago (Cryptic days)...some of the system caches finally refreshed and showed that the previous logo was in one of the monthly upload folders that we had to prune.
  5. There's nothing in the HERO System to allow for that, but it's a relatively minor adjustment in the application code to make it work. Try with the current update (just posted) -- should work as expected using LVLVAL (should always be positive) and LVLCOST (can now be negative) attributes.
  6. Apparently you are that tone-deaf. For your own safety your posts will be moderated for the next three months.
  7. Are you actually so tone-deaf as to start with that crap here and now? Does this seem like a wise idea to you?

    Warning

Most likely: you're keeping all files that you've ever loaded open within HD and running out of memory as a result. Close characters when you're done with them and unload prefabs that are not in use. To remove all files from loading at startup, delete the appPrefs.xml file before starting HD.
  9. The intention is for the pruning that's already been done to be all that is needed. Should that not prove to be the case (e.g. the 4.5GB database requires too high of a RAM load for reasonable hosting plans), the order of operations for additional pruning would be: Prune all posts started over a year ago in the NGD - this would remove the long-running (and space-hog) threads and get rid of the bulk of the posts that can/should be pruned back. Prune posts in the gaming forums (HERO System Discussion, Champions, etc.). This will remove a decent amount, but not as much as the NGD. Prune any remaining forums (this is the only point at which the rules questions forum would come into play) Again, the intent is to have the pruning that has already been performed be all that is needed.
  10. It will be a perceived (but not actual) loss to the community. People simply do not access the content*. Case in point: the NGD and most other forums were pruned before the announcement went up. * Yes, I'm aware that one or two will chime in stating that they looked at an archived thread a month or two ago -- if they're willing to cough up $400 per month for the privilege (and go under contract for at least a year), then we can talk.

    Jan Build

    Generally minor/tiny esoteric fixes.
  12. If you're referring to editing a power or ability within a character, then you may have positioned the edit dialog off of the screen (happens if the screen resolution changes, for example). Delete the appPrefs.xml file before starting HD and all positions will be reset.
  13. I just pushed up an update that should fix that.
  14. Also pay attention to the title bar of the window/dialog -- if it's grayed out, that's a good indication that there's another modal dialog open on top of it. Some versions of Java will allow a modal dialog in the background to be raised over the active dialog. The active dialog is still there and has control, but you need to switch focus back to it in order to do anything.
  15. Post a copy of the trace.log file the next time the problem happens. Most likely due to an issue with Java on your system, as there's nothing in the application code to cause that. You may want to try uninstalling all copies of Java from your system and reinstalling the latest release from www.java.com
  16. See that "Support" tab at the top of every page on this site?
  17. You don't seem to have a good grasp of the system...or the purpose of this forum.
  18. There is nothing (at all) within the application to do anything approaching what you're talking about. The only guess I can make continues to point to user error -- editing the text of a skill/ability rather than deleting or editing it.
  19. I'd look through the export format area of the Downloads on this site. If you don't find something that does what you're after, you can either tweak an existing one or post a request in this forum for someone to do it for you...
  20. The details contained in an export are entirely dependent on the export format chosen. For STR Minimum, it will only auto-calculate if you enter the actual value -- select the appropriate range to get the right Limitation value and then change the text from a range (e.g. 10-15) to a specific value (e.g. 13).
