Spence got a reaction from slikmar in What Have You Watched Recently?
Wonderfalls was fantastic. I only discovered it after it left the air. Have the DVDs. I never understood how a show like WF will be canceled and yet we have hours of not funny "comedies" that will simply not die.
Another great comedy was The Middleman.

Spence reacted to theinfn8 in How would you handle a 'fief' for a character?
I agree with this. If it isn't really expected to impact play, there's no need to even pay points for it, let alone write it up. If the fief is where you go when you unwind after an adventure and gear up for the next and move on, why bother with more than naming it, say it's home, and leave it at that? As fans of the system, we tend to think in terms of "how do I write this up in the rules", when the reality is, sometimes you don't.

Spence reacted to theinfn8 in [5thR] Maps for Campaign
I love making my own maps as well. I'm hitting that "little time to make stuff" phase again, so I'm borrowing a lot. I hope you have fun and enjoy yourself!

Good points. I was already thinking somewhat along those lines but the thoughts hadn't gelled until I read your post.
I think I am still going to try my hand at working up my own maps for this. I own Campaign Cartegrapher but haven't used it for years. I hit a extremely busy decade where my free time, especially gaming and gaming related activities, zeroed out. Now that I can actually game again, I should fire up my available resources and do something.
Thanks everyone, whether you meant to or not, you have given me the kick I needed.

Spence reacted to Christopher R Taylor in Maneuvers
The big difference between a dagger, say, and a longbow is that a longbow properly used is at its maximum power already when properly used. A dagger properly used is very rarely at maximum effort, and becomes wildly inaccurate when you attack with its maximum damage (from you at least), which means that haymaker perfectly represents that maneuver. That's why I don't allow ranged attacks of any kind to be haymakered (or energy blasts from StarKing, or mental illusions from the egoist, etc. Pushing can represent giving it your all but haymaker is an all-out, wild, swing-for-the fences punch or swing.

Glad you liked it! Upcoming topics include "comic book time" and topical references (or, what war precisely did Tony Stark sell weapons for?), and our April Fool's Day special on the world of Hostess ads. We'll be recording a deep dive into the career of Steve Ditko in the next week or two as well, in which he is given appropriate credit for several things people don't remember he invented as well as puzzled shrugs about all the Objectivism malarkey. dw

Spence got a reaction from Tech in [5edR] Endurance
Fair enough.
It could be the 6th Ed part.
I picked up the books (I'm a compulsive completionist collector of RPG's) for 6th, but could never really play it. 4th and 5th Ed's are my favorites. To me, 6th feels and plays very different than all the earlier versions so I just never actually put together anything that ran more than one or two sessions in 6th.
5thR on the other hand feels right and everything clicks.

Spence got a reaction from Duke Bushido in Premade Campaign Poll
I went for the school theme game.
Right now the quickest way to lose my interest is yet another villain based game. Pretty much everything has been around a villain being treated like they were heroes.
If I wanted to play a villain I'd play Vampire.

Pirates for me out of that lot. I started doing some 7th Sea conversion stuff awhile back. Its a great setting but the mechanics are too Theatre of the Mind for me.
Other than that, I'm currently only interested in Westerns and Modern horror (a Stranger Things/Kids on Bikes game being a lighter approach to the latter).

I should have put a Western campaign on there too, like Oregon Trail or Range War

Well, there are a LOT of none sword swingers out there these days.
One of my major issues with any of the so called RPG Review Podcasts is they don't actually review anything.
After they get done blathering all you really know is that they liked it or they did not. One of the recent ones I suffered through was for Star Trek Adventures by Modiphious. After about 45 minutes I will never get back I gained the following information.
It was about role playing Star Trek
Be sure to give to their Patron
It was a science fiction game
Be sure to give to their Patron
It assumed that you knew what Star Trek was, which was bad.
Be sure to give to their Patron
The game did not have much combat
Be sure to give to their Patron
They didn't like it because it was hard to decide what to do
Be sure to give to their Patron
It was HARD.
It never mention the actual game system or any descriptions of how the game played.
I have never been a supported of government bureaucracy, but I would support public flogging if a Podcast lies about its subject.
Gahhhhh!!!!
But anyway, Image Part 2 was great and engaging. Made my commute fly by. 6 star's out of 5

Spence reacted to Christopher R Taylor in Western Hero 6th edition
If I could have, I'd have released the book with a soundtrack. That can't happen so I did the next best thing; I put bits of song lyrics at the beginning of each main section and put together a playlist on Youtube

Spence got a reaction from Norm in Hero Games 2021 Update
Bingo!
This goes for all genre/theme/settings or what have you.
The only real way to learn Hero is to play Hero. But having to design everything before you can play really eliminates the whole play thing before it even starts.

Yesterday I listened to Big Iron from Marty Robbins. That song makes you want to play Western Hero.
