  1. Re: WWYCD #111: Hero Worship Ghost Archer: "Well, this is different. Normally Raven's the one worshipped as a goddess and I am merely her right hand. Wonder how she'll feel being my consort instead of the other way around?" Ghost Archer has never believed in gods or goddesses as he has met more then a few so classified. To find himself worshipped would cause him no end of concern. He would feel obligated to his 'worshippers' and try to help them while at the same time gently trying to discourage them. At some point he would become fed up with the whole thing and seek a less gentle form of persuasion. With his level of PRE he might have to 'put the fear of god' in them.
  2. Re: The cranky thread I'd like to say thanks to everyone for the good thougts. Something must have worked since my CAT scan came up clean. Again, thanks everyone.
  3. Re: Healing Champions Over the years I have found far too many PCs with some form of healing and I think it detracts from the sense of danger inherent it the type of combat Champions PCs encounter. This sense of danger is even more true in the case of Fantasy Hero or Star Hero. Both can claim a certain ease of availability for Healing through magic or technology. Champions, unlike other genres, tend towards huge amounts of stun as opposed to body simply because of the higher levels of defenses. I am guilty of allowing PCs that can quickly recover from massive Body in order to avoid a PC being forced to sit out a game. In Fantasy/Star Hero, we expect blood and death on a regular basic and a healer is probably necessary. In Champions? Not really.
  4. Re: The cranky thread Four more days until I get the CAT scan results. I've never been worried about it before so why am I this time? Its only been 16 months since the chemo ended. It can't be back already. This sucks. Where's my Wellbutrin?
  5. Re: Online USPD Updated Bummer . . . mine didn't make it.
  6. Re: WWYCD #100: IHA Attack!! Ghost Archer: "Damnit. So soon? Last time I gathered together an alliance of not only mutant heros but many mutant supervillains. The loss of life was incredible. In the last case, the mutants gathered together in Death Valley and drew the Minuteman robots to them along with many agent types. Once the robots got their act together and made a concerted attack, the Alliance of Mutants pretty much took them apart. All of the Minuteman robots where destroyed and most of the agents killed or captured. We lost far too many mutants, both friends and enemies. One person we missed, was the leader of the group, the Black King. Now we are seeing the first of a new generation of robot. It starts over . . . "

  8. Re: WWYCD #92: Back to the Future Ghost Archer: "Well . . . with the temporal part of my powers blocked, and if the world I find myself isn't what I need, I guess I could seach the dimensions for a high tech world and do some studying. If it took five hours of five centuries, somewhere along the line I'd find a way around it. Its not like I don't have the time." "I don't think I would look into the past, I don't waht to know what may happen, just as I try very hard not to try to change the past. Time travel has . . . responsibilies that I take very serious."
  9. Re: Wwycd? #87 Ghost Archer: "Ghost Fletcher! How are things going?" Ghost Fletcher: "Not too bad, GA. Finished art school and got married to a girl I met in class." Ghost Archer: "Outstanding! So what are you up to?" Ghost Fletcher: "Got my own graphics design company in LA and my wife is working at Mattel designing Barbie stuff. Oh, and I am about to be ordained as a Buddhist priest." Ghost Archer: "I noticed the shaved head look." Ghost Fletcher: "Goes with the job." Ghost Archer: "Sounds to me like your life is going great. Glad to hear it."
  10. Re: Wwycd? #84 Ghost Archer: "I would expect to be governed by the Laws of Comics at this point, so this would require something suitably amusing. I could get into the car, that whole 'ghost' thing being useful and take the form of something . . . unexpected. I can see it now, materializing in the back seat. Leaning forward between the seats. Looking like an 'Alien' from the movies. Turning to look at first one bunny, then the other. I wonder if a bunny's fur will stand on end like a cat? I guess a wreck is inevitable. I'll have to minimize damage with a force wall ahead of us or something. Maybe make the force wall look like a cream pie or Nerf wall?"
  11. Re: Wwycd #89 Ghost Archer: "I do my job. If this includes investigating a friend that may have killed two people, so be it. Understand, however, I go into any new case with an open mind and would never allow others' conclusions to color my own. One thing one must consider: maybe the two bodies are the missing couple and the insurance guy isn't dead. Maybe somehow, he has that power now. Hell, I wouldn't even conclude Mrs. Krystal was one of them until I had definitive proof."
  12. Re: What would your character do #83 ? Ghost Archer: "Law must sometimes give way to Justice. I know of this lovely little alternate dimension with a world just screaming for help like this. I could get in to the prison and out, taking our man with me and never be seen or suspected. Walk the Road (Temporal Extra-dimensional Movement) and take him there to be evaluated wouldn't be a problem. Of course, if he's full of sh*t the trip back will put him in his cell a single second after I took him out and the Law will have it's day."
  13. Re: WWYCD #90: Brainwave Ghost Archer: "Not much would change although I'd be smarter then the damn lizard."
  14. Re: What would your character do #88 Ghost Archer: "If Raven's just a kid, she's a pretty damned experienced kid now. That's all that matters, how she's been percieved since she came here. I would not tell anyone, including our children but our personal relationship might require some therapy for me."
  15. Re: WWYCD #91 - A matter of Family Ghost Archer: "Might be interesting to meet my grandmother . . . since she has been dead for probably twenty thousand years but I get the idea. My mother makes a dandy villain as she did try to help over throw the 'government' of our home world and, quite possibly, is responsible for tens of thousands of deaths. It's something you live with." "As for the second part? That's pretty tough. My archenemy is more of an archnemesis. If I had the only blood that would save his life, would I offer it? Yes. You see, much as I hate him, someone dear to me loves him and no matter what, I could not face the pain I would see in her eyes if she lost him."
  16. Re: Nonlethal Alternatives Ghost Archer: From the very beginning I have always be aware of the fragility of those not blessed with wonderous powers, hell even of those blessed with said powers, and so have made provisions. A Stun only attack. An NND attack. Flash attack. Entangle. A darkness attack. I might be capable of taking out a tank but I will only use that power in a dire situation. Even with a sword I will use the 'flat of the blade' to avoid killing. Nat 'Goliath' Ryan: Some of us aren't as taleneted as Archer. I only have my strength and I'm not all that great controlling it. I don't hit people unless I absolutely must. Ghost Archer: Too many paranormals fall under the assumption that the most important thing in the world is taking down the bad guy. Even those with codes against killing have lethal attacks. This puzzles the hell out of me. Why worry about who you kill if that's what can happen every time you relaese your power? Personally, I will opt to save a bystander every time even if given a clear shot at the worst killer on the planet. I don't want to be the one explaining to some kid why I let his mommie die. I think many people are trapped by the competative urge. The need to WIN at any cost. It places blinders on people with power and becomes 'hit 'em hard, hit 'em fast and shoot 'em when they're down, they might be faking'. I can't tell you how many people I have know that think that way. I believe this is why a mentalist is so rare. They can't kill outright, or NORMALLY can't. Who wants to have to think up a creative way to neutralize Grond without endangering civilians when you can blast him with a Megabolt III and have the satisfaction of knocking him through a couple walls and a car or two? RPG: I try very hard to lead my players to a more diverse set of attacks but most cannot see the beauty in a subtle power. Too many DBZ cartoons.
  17. Re: Are you Judge, Jury, and Executioner? Ghost Archer: "My morality is variable with the law of the land, or in my case, world. In a more civilized wolrd, like Earth, I will kill only when absolutely necessary. I believe in using just enough force to exceed that of my foe and no more. In a less advanced world, I can be just as brutal as my foes and think nothing of snuffing them out in droves."
  18. Re: I Can't Believe He Played That! Wow, very small. I never played in the Funeral games, did all mine at the Heron. In fact, for the last two years or so, I ran the place on week ends. Randy'd left and the cops where letting it die on the vine. Once they closed the place down, mostly everyone moved to my place. All the character I listed were from that time frame, from about 1982 when I started playing Champions with Jody until what, 1989? Just for fun: Hello Randy (Chameleon), Jody (Captain New Jersey), Bob (Bud Man), Bobby (Voltage), Jim (Steeler), Craig (Ninja Beaver), Larry (Silar), Bill (Daimon), JJ (War Eagle), Duwood (Zorro), Eric Curtis (Stryker), Rich (Star Knight), Dan (Crusader), Troy (Darkwing), Rene (Hellcat) and Mark (Sarge).
  19. Re: What Would Your Character #72 (or so) Ghost Archer: "Of course some of my teammates aren't trustworthy. I've got a half-demon, a fallen angel, an alien conqueror, an ex-Soviet assassin, an ex-cat burglar, a female super-patriot, hell, even my own wife was a gun runner and drug dealer. But they are MY teammates. If you want to come after them you will have the whole Wild Hunt to deal with, including me."
  20. Re: Would your character... Ghost Archer: I still don't understand this nudity taboo. You turn the money over to my favorite charity, no problem. If you want, I can get Raven to join me and make it a couples shoot.
  21. Re: What Would Your Character Do? #69 Ghost Archer: I am already drawing in teens as their powers manifest, this would just make it easier. For many years I have taken in newly emergant paranormals, some successfully, others less so. My team provides a safe environment and training as well as an education. I have even been appointed the guardian of more than one. As for VIPER's 'terminate' order, I'd just have to make sure there's no way VIPER could execute such a plan. If I am in one VIPER nest, you can bet I'll find any other in my area as quickly and quietly as possible. A couple of visits by a 'ghost' would clog up the works.
  22. Re: What Would Your Character Do? #68 Ghost Archer: First I would have to discover this guy's range of powers, to find his weaknesses and how to exploit them. I would watch his regime closely and at the first hint of an act of terror, I would have to take him out. I don't have much of a problem with putting an arrow into the guy's eye. Hell I'd even design a special arrow just for him. If I couldn't kill him, I would move him to another dimension, one without inhabitants and strand him, even if I had to sacrifice myself. If I cannot kill him or move him to an alternate dimension, I would lead the resistance and train a cadre of paranormals with the sole purpose of his overthrow. During the struggle against his empire, I would be moving dissidents to safer dimensions, scouring those dimensions for weapons powerful enough to destroy Megascourage II and in general making a total pain in the ass of myself. The point might all be moot if Tsar decides to erase Megascourge II . . . damn lizard . . . but if he brought Megascourage II in to existance in the first place, it's going to be a very long war. After all of it was over? Those stupid world leaders that let the b**tard loose in the first place would be subjected to some serious judgement, either in the World Court or by my hand.
  23. Re: What would your character do? #70 Ghost Archer: I think in this case my primary concern is the 'repossession' of the 'victim'. I'm not the magical expert in the team, far from it and much to the disappointment of my mother. If I am not within a quick response by Crusader I suppose I would stablize the guy and transport him to a church to protect him from 'repossession'. I think as a precaution I would entangle the victim to prevent his departure from the church in the event he was a willing host. I would request Crusader get to the site as quickly as possible and once more save a lost soul. Once this was done, hunting down the demon would be very high on the 'to do' list. Though I have had considerable experience with demons and even associate with a half demon, they are an unknown quantity. I would stay in close contact with the local churches, mainly Catholic as they seem to draw demons, and listen out for unusal 'manifestations'. Demon hunting can be a long process and I would have to work fast to reduce the chance of deaths and other heinous crimes commited by this creature.
  24. Re: What would your character do? #71 Ghost Archer Usually the only way I stay trapped in time is when I lose my memory due to the stress of the temporal rift. Normally I survive as I can until my memory returns, then I'll be all mad and go hunt down the temporal villain and teach him it isn't wise to use that type of trick on another time traveler, even one that is subject to the memory loss thing. That far back I'd probably try to 'civilize' any local inhabitants but since it would be an exclusively 'hunter/gatherer' society, I imagine I would become a god to those I came across. As I don't have a 'god' complex, contrary to what is said by my teammates, I would try to discourage this but I would also be making their lives a whole lot easier. I would start be introducing farming, with irragation, and the domestication of animals. Hell, for all I know that's really how civilization started, with me trapped in the past for a couple of decades. Stuff like that has happened before.
  25. Re: I Can't Believe He Played That! Methinks you mistake me for another. Ninja Beaver existed for a short time at a hobby shop called the White Heron in Norfolk VA. This was about 1983 or so. And I thought our group was serious too. Not everyone saw it that way though.
