I guess I’m an old school grognard, but I far prefer interacting with people face to face at a table rather than playing by text/email. I’ve tried it in the past, and it’s glacially slow in getting anything done that way.

I have been away from the boards for a while, and just saw this post. I think that I may be the only HEROphile in Boise. I once had an incredible HERO GM here, but he relocated to Washington state a number of years ago. He and I were on the same page as far as comics, the supers genre, gaming, etc. After his departure I just didn't have the heart to try and find another GM. I'm 95%/5% Player/GM, so I really haven't run anything in decades.
 
By the way, that's an incredible gaming table. Wish I'd had one of those back in the day.
 
 

I had turned off call filtering on my work cell phone yesterday to be able to receive a call from a new co-worker, and I forgot to turn it back on.
 
This morning, I received two calls in rapid succession from a number claiming to be from Ely, NV*, and I decided to answer it. I was greeted by a gentleman with a thick accent asking if he was talking to Zahood Beeblebrox. I laughed and said, "I think you mean 'Zaphod Beeblebrox', he's the President of the Galaxy in the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy. I think you've been had." He then hung up the call.
 
Several years back, I used to see how long I could keep the credit card scammers on the line, and at least one of the times, I gave the name of Zaphod Beeblebrox to an agent. It's good to see that their CRM list is suitably poisoned.
 
 
*These call centers spoof "local" numbers in order to try to get people to pick up. In this case, they chose a community that's over 200 miles north of me, and with a listed population of a little less than 4000 people.

You really should read some of the stories. Yes, you'll want to fact check the hell out of them. The shooting was going on while the cops stayed outside. They had to hear the shots. What did they think was going on in there? Balloon popping? You're right that a lot of information is still incoming, but apparently the UPD had active shooter training two months before this. If reports are true that some UPD went in to get JUST their own kids and left other folks kids to die, it's even worse. Police officials have been caught in blatant lies about the time line and events. And, of course there were 9-11 calls going on like this one, from within the school. For the record:
 
 
I understand that getting shot at must be terrifying. I will stay behind the safety of my fantasy games and the like. And, I won't be joining the police force. I'm also not a fire fighter, but if a building was on fire and the firefighters just stood around staring at it while there was still a chance to save children trapped inside, I'd be livid with them. I'd know they shouldn't have picked this career. If they then were caught bare face lying about what happened in order to make themselves look good?  Beyond livid with a high dose of disgust and disdain for them as human beings.
 
I don't think the Uvalde police deserve a good nights sleep, or their current jobs.  YMMV.
 

What I keep hearing about training in police forces across the United States nowadays, is that they're being taught their priority is to keep themselves safe. That isn't the job. Firefighters don't avoid fires. Soldiers don't avoid the front lines. The job of cops is to put themselves between danger and innocent civilians. Any cop who isn't prepared to do that should look for another job.

Although I won't deny, while I don't condone any gun violence, the thought of it breaking out during an NRA conference did provoke a brief sadistic smirk to cross my face.

It will never stop. The country lacks the political will to do anything about it.

It was on the drive today up to where the father-in-law died that I realized that getting old isn't what sucks.  What sucks is that everything and everyone around you gets old too, and they leave the world without your permission.

I find swastikas to be quite comforting in some circumstances.  Normally I try to hear someone's side of things and even feel guilty if i don't at least give them a small chance to make their case.  However, when someone waves that or holds it up while trumpeting a cause, it allows me to completely and quickly disregard that person and whatever point they're trying to make and go on about my day with a clear conscience.

I might do soundtracks later. I don't follow musicals well enough to have a favorites list for that.
