  1. Re: What do you have in your coinpurse? I used the following for mine: 1 Golden Royal = 20 Royals = 400 Silver = 8000 Ol' Yellers $2000 = 20 $100 = 400 $5 = 8000 quarters Ol' Yellers were what happen to "gold pieces" after magic went away and revealed that all gold coins were actually enchanted counterfeit gold-colored rocks.
  2. Re: Traveler's Purse - Magic Item Here's a tagline for you all:
  3. Re: Traveler's Purse - Magic Item It's actually a bit of psychology there. Mathematically, it's a little less than 4 silvers a day (on average, expected outcome is 3.5+(12.5/36)~=3.85 ), but because it is random and occasionally there's a nice bonus, it feels like it is more money than it really is. Also, if it was 4 silvers a day, it would be boring and hence less magical.
  4. Re: I heart language charts Originally, I defined as a basic language has no complex, idiomatic structures and no easy way to talk about abstract concepts such as philosophy. Later, I determined that Orcs tend to mature at around 9 to 12, so the language tends to be stunted at roughly the 6th grade level. Still later, I clarified that Orcs did not have a number system (Orcs are innumerate) and there was no official written Orcish language. I did this because I didn't want my Orcs to be learning disabled, but I did want them to have a disadvantage in trying to understand certain concepts because it wasn't in the language. Orcs must learn another language if they want to be literate or do well in trading. All these things is what makes Orcish a basic (cheaper) language.
  5. Re: I heart language charts That's cool. Did you do anything with the difficulties? For example, in my game, High Elven is an additional point of Elven and Orcish doesn't have the fourth point since it is a very basic language with very basic concepts.
  6. Re: Traveler's Purse - Magic Item I'd say 1D6 silvers per day and on a 6, roll another 1D6 and if that comes up a 6, give them a small gem (or more coins) worth say 1d6+9 silvers. That works out to 3.5 silvers a day with a "monthly" (36 days) bonus of 12.5 silvers.
  7. Re: BOOM Table vs HERO Well, let's start with the basics. 1 Stick of TNT is 8.4x10^5 Joules OR 5D6 N EX Now, we just convert into sticks of TNT. Take 5.9 x 10^31 J which is what the Death Star seems to be able to do or 7.0 x 10^25 sticks. Well that's roughly 85 doublings (log x/log 2 where log can be any base) or 90D6 N EX. Although, you will need Mega Area to cover the planet. Isn't logarithm progression fun?
  8. Re: Profressions and how they are influenced by Superpowers Daimon Stark - A lawyer who was pulled out of a coma by accepting a certain Deal from the forces below. Rather than gets his hands dirty, he just does what he does best, being a lawyer. His Latin has improved greatly, possibly from his new teachers. Oh, and he has been cleared of all charges of money laundering, fencing, and other illegal business practices, all of them. Malachite - An elf with a look towards long-term planning. He's not a bad guy, per se, but he does also deal in the grey market. Best known for buying a property dirt cheap and magically restoring it quickly to make a fast buck. His last scam involved re-animating skeletons and paying their families standard labor rates as a "donation". His claim was this allowed the dead to come to terms and finally rest, he got his building built, and the widows and orphans were given just compensation which the laws didn't even cover. Win-win.
  9. Re: Bag of Holding One of my favorite was one I saw that was Transform Objects into Coins. It was a rather unique interpretation of Bag of Holding. The coins transformed back by being pulled out of the bag.
  10. Re: Certain Followers Bought with Limitations? When I think of Followers with Limitations, I think Summon. Summon is the perfect power for "I have need for this follower, but not all the time, and when I don't need him, he simply goes away." It starts out more expensive as a Summon, since it needs to be Friendly (Slavishly Devoted?), and it might be needed that you need Specific Being but that's more of "I summon this well-known NPC" or you're summoning your personal vehicle (which warhorse might count) or your personal Base (which as George Carlin would say, "That's where I keep all of my stuff"). Then you get to slap on limitations: Gestures [Throw pokeball] (Casting Only), Incantation "I choose you Warhorse", (Casting Only), Focus OAF (Pokeball), and others as needed and you're good. If you want to make it a spell, consider Extra Time and possibly Increased END Cost. And Requires a Magic Roll and Side Effects if you haven't mastered the spell.
  11. Re: Seemingly Silly Things to Model Bouncy 10" Leaping, 0 END, Persistent, Always On. Real Cost: 7 points. Bouncing around on your rear, like a Disney gummi-bear, priceless.
  12. Re: A Question of Balance & Lethality My biggest advice is always, always, write up or discuss what the campaign is going to be like... without even thinking about the system, at least at first. I am currently running a very low-powered, high-magic world. Most of the players whine about how few points they have (they start out as 50 points), but they manage to one-kill the weak monsters and not get hopelessly slaughtered by big creatures. It is high magic in that they seem to find lots of magical treasure, none of it very helpful in terms of raw combat potential, but useful because elven chain mail, even when it is ceremonial and a bit worn (DEF 5 instead of 6) is more comfortable to wear than most wool clothing and can be slept in. The rest are wearing elven leather armor which is DEF 3 (but also comfortable enough to sleep in).
  13. There seems to be a mixup of Regeneration that the phrase "1 REC worth of BODY per" and "1 BODY of Regeneration per" in both 6E1, page 275 and the Advanced Players Guide, page 114. To clarify, the amount of BODY received per time unit is based on the cost, not the player's REC, correct?
  14. Re: It's the Little Things.... This combination of little things was amazingly useful... TF: Large Motorized Vehicles and Lockpicking "Well, I had to borrow this large 18-wheeler...."

  16. Re: Silly question: Because he had to save that kid before he got hit by the car. Luckily, he pushed his running since he need to cross the road in one phase, do a grab-by and all before the car gets a chance to act of DEX 8 (the car has a DEX 15, but the GM rules that the car must wait until the driver gets to act). The kid is at DCV 0, surprised that he is about to be run over by a car, so he's an easy target for the minuses for Grab-by (The GM assigns a -4 to avoid looking it up in the rule book). He scoops the kid and makes it across the street, just in the nick of time.
  17. Re: Character Backgrounds (free for all) Here's one of mine. Karon was an orphan raised by the Clerics of Light. Everyday she would polish the famed plate armor used by the Legendary Paladin of Light. It was a boring job, but Karon was never one to shirk her duties. The legend said that one day, the hero would return to once again protect the city. Then, one day, the city was attacked. Without a moment's thought, Karon rushed and got the armor. But the armor was too heavy to carry, so she put the helmet on her head, and wore the gauntlets... before long, she was wearing the famed armor of the Legendary Paladin of Light. One thing led to another, and she found herself battling among her people and defending the city. The famed Paladin of Light had returned! Karon didn't have the heart to tell them that she was just a young cleric in training.
  18. Re: Giant Ant Lair First off, ants don't really care if part of it collapses, they just repair it and move on. But, if you look carefully, the amount of solid dirt (before the scientists removed it) is many times more than the amount of dirt missing from the tunnels. As long as the dirt is already compacted, the dirt above is held up by the surrounding structure. It's why the instincts of the ants to build very long, thin tunnels and lots of little round rooms. The ant colonies that wanted to build small dense colonies with huge rooms and tunnels all collapsed and died.
  19. Re: The Incredible Shrinking Species I wonder if people will shrink like most shrinkers do and retain their normal STR and normal defenses. Even if they only walk the same proportionally (1" I'm guessing), their leap would be incredible, even taking the standard 8 STR leaping capability and not increasing it do to smaller size. You would still be able to take on a yappy chihuahua, although you might have to learn to leap and punch like the Atom does (move-thru, I'm guessing).
  20. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... The heroes are talking to the suspected supervillain who built the first hotel-size space station in orbit. Hero: "They just don't understand your vision, do they?" Supervillain: "And they don't have any business sense, do you know how much it costs to ship water to orbit, when you can just recycle it from urine?" Hero looks at her drink with concern. Supervillain: "More lemonade? I made it myself."
  21. Re: your pcs might be OVERPOWERED IF... If the PCs have mucked up the timelines so badly that the DC universe actually makes sense in comparison... they might be too powerful.
  22. Re: Fooling Telepathy One way to do it which I don't thing was mentioned is to make a campaign rule that telepathy isn't perfect. Telepathy then gets a -1/2 limitation: Requires an Telepathic Skill roll. A defender then could have a Counter Telepathy skill, depending on how well he makes his roll, he could twist the information similarly to a good Persuasion roll. "I'm going to find out if he's murdered Bill." Rolls are made, but the defender has successfully use Countered Telepathy to make the Telepathic skill fail with the bonuses. "You get that he definitely wanted to kill Bill, but you are not finding the memory of him actually doing it." The player then gets to know, he successful reached the memories and that he made his Telepathic skill by (lets say 3) so that the defender, if he had Counter Telepathy, need to make that skill by at least 4 to successfully bluff.
  23. Re: Transporter Accident Quinn - Doesn't know what "Star Trek" is, coming from a "Firefly" universe. Although she probably recognize how impulse engines work and understand the mathematics of a transporter or warp drive being a mathematical genius. (She was discredited for attempting to use artificial gravity to bend space to discover what type of universe she was in.) As for the medical scans....she shows up as an artificial hermaphrodite.
