  1. Re: Dragon-riders of Pern Okay, here's the stats for the dragons. Noteworthy dragons, of course, have better stats than this. Green Blue Brown Bronze Gold STR 40 45 50 55 60 DEX 18 18 18 18 18 CON 20 23 25 27 30 INT 8 8 8 8 8 EGO 10 10 10 10 10 PRE 20 21 23 25 28 OCV 3 3 3 3 3 DCV 3 3 3 3 3 OMCV 3 3 3 3 3 DMCV 3 3 3 3 3 SPD 2 2 2 2 2 PD 8 9 10 11 12 ED 8 9 10 11 12 REC 4 5 7 8 10 END 20 26 30 35 40 BODY 16 17 18 19 20 STUN 32 40 42 47 52 Run 36 40 44 48 50 Flight 36 40 44 48 50 Swim 4 5 5 6 6 Leap 4 5 5 6 6 KB 12 14 16 18 20 Reach 3 4 5 7 8 Size Enom Enom Enom Huge Huge
  2. Re: Eh? Not having to breathe, 10 active points. Able to survive vacuum, 3 active points. The look as your heroically leave and doom your enemy to suffocation and explosive decompression. Priceless.
  3. Re: Ranged HA - What so bad about it The reason is convoluted but here goes. You used to be able to by STR Ranged. This was considered bad/distasteful because it was dirt cheap. You not only got STR and all the benefits of STR (secondary characteristics as well as lifting heavy objects) AND you got Telekinesis. This was not play balanced. I think most of the complaints on using HtH Ranged stems from this. Since HtH is basically STR with a limitation.
  4. Re: Dragon-riders of Pern Here's my attempt to rate the other dragons based on Green as a template. I didn't know if intelligence and ego increased linearly with size, so I left it alone. When we come to consensus on the stats, I'll help write up the HTML for Susano. Blue being one step bigger then Green would be: +5 STR +3 CON +1 BODY -2 meters more Knockback +1 PRE +4 meters more Running +2 PD +1 ED +1 REC +6 END +6 STUN Stretching additional +1 meter Brown being 1.5 times bigger than Green: +10 STR +5 CON +2 BODY -4 meters more Knockback +3 PRE +8 meters more Running +2 PD +2 ED +3 REC +10 END +10 STUN Stretching additional +2 meters Bronze being twice as big as Green +15 STR +7 CON +3 BODY -6 meters more Knockback +5 PRE +12 meters more Running +3 PD +3 ED +4 REC +15 END +15 STUN Stretching additional +4 meters Physical Limitation: Huge (Frequently, Greatly Impairing) Gold being one level of growth bigger than Bronze +20 STR +10 CON +4 BODY -8 meters more Knockback +8 PRE +14 meters more Running +4 PD +4 ED +6 REC +20 END +20 STUN Stretching additional +5 meters Physical Limitation: Huge (Frequently, Greatly Impairing)
  5. Re: What labs are in your wallet? Actually, one of the base that I wrote up was a Fairy Grove that didn't have that. But, it was important to define how big the area was since it had some unusual magical properties including a mental compulsion to avoid the area to prevent people from accidentally discovering the place. I also wrote up the Squid Cave where the fourth wall was a waterfall that provided privacy.
  6. Re: What's in YOUR future history? One of the things that I like in histories is the dead end. The "revolution" that becomes remembered as a passing fad. Something that lasts a solid generation but fails to take off. Why it doesn't take off (and why it almost did) explains the culture shifts and prevents the history from sounding too much like, "And then, right on schedule, we developed FTL travel." Star Trek's Botany Bay is also a good example of this. Not only did it explain why Federation was into Eugenics, it explained why it did not pursue that path further.
  7. Re: Package Deals? Yes, page 45 of The Advanced Player's Guide.
  8. Re: I'm building a gold dragon on 350 points How about an ability to Firebrand (Wizard Mark) an item and find it later. Presumably it would be items already in your hoard, but, occasionally there could be certain items that you want to keep track of. Sounds like a good greedy power. A Magical Taste at range might be nice. You don't want to chase after pyrite or bismutite, or eat too much mercury for that matter. Although whether it can be fooled by simple gold plating is another thing.
  9. Re: Dragon-riders of Pern I'll take a stab at it. It looks to be Enormous size category. Although I don't know how fast they fly without going "In Between". They also Psychic Bonded with their riders, but that only gave vague emotions and physical responses rather than telepathy.

  12. Re: Rare Triggers If we go without clips and only Increased Recovery Time, 125 charges for a month OR 32 charges a week is still a -1/4 limitation. Not much of a limitation granted, but perhaps not nearly as broken. Unless we can say being knocked unconscious is something that happens "only" 8 times in one week or 32 times a month, that's a -1 limitation. In any case, that's how one can use Charges to model a rare event. So I'd say that it's somewhere between a -1/4 limitation and a -1 limitation, depending on how often you expect that rare event to occur.
  13. Re: Rare Triggers Ok, let me clarify. One way to think of rare events is Charges. Let's see if I understand Sean correctly. It's a rare event that can happen 128 times in a month and say up to 16 times per combat (a bit overkill, but bear with me). So 8 clips of 16 charges that take to a minute to reload, that's a -1. Granted, if you are knocked unconscious 17 times before having a chance to reload, you're SOL. Let me repeat: 16 charges -0, 8 clips (+3/4), Increased Reloading Time: 1 minute (-3/4), Increase Recovery Time: 1 Month (-1) Using a combination of Increased Recovery Time, Clips, and Increase Reloading Time, you should be able to model fairly rare events, allow for huge clusters and STILL get some limitation value out it. -1 might not be unreasonable in that case.

  16. Re: Need Super powered Mysteries! Double Trouble A new villain has been seen doing robberies and an NPC hero wants him to be caught. The plot twist is the villain is wearing the same costume and similar powers as the hero. The NPC will truthfully answer that it isn't him, but he can't provide an alibi for the time (not without revealing his secret identity). Permanent Retirement One of the oldest heroes, thought to have retired in the 80s, is found dead in his superhero costume. How did he die, why was he killed? And was he really that famous billionaire playboy? His Last Will will uncover several possible motives, but he also has a collection of villains. Crime of Passion One of the heroes is found dead. His wounds suggests that his sexy supervillain lover is the most likely suspect. She claims that she truly loved him and that she was framed, but proving it when she's already wanted by the Law will be tough.
  17. Re: Rare Triggers Around where I come from, we call that Charges.
  18. Re: Faith, Courage and Humble Obedience Faith, in my opinion, is a combination of EGO and PRE. EGO is the willpower. To resist temptation is always an EGO roll. To push yourself, physically and emotionally, requires an EGO roll. A humble man can still have a huge EGO stat since it is not necessarily being egotistical. Indeed, it might be easier for him if his cause isn't about himself. Such is the reason for bonuses to EGO roll to save the world. PRE is the persuasive part of will. I want to convince you that smoking isn't bad for you, or that my religion is a good religion to follow. (Persuasion, Oratory) That I am not scared when really I am. (Acting) It is also used in Turning Undead, which I guess represents converting the Undead which is PRE. I can convince you that this is the correct course of action, not because of ME but because of the Greater Good. Hmm, a good cleric really needs to have a high EGO to resist temptation. A successful cleric needs PRE to expand his flock, push back the Undead and convince the spawns of Hell to leave his faithful alone. In short, resisting a succubus' charm is EGO. Commanding that succubus to go away is PRE.
  19. Re: Dancing Weapon I choose not to do it as Automaton. It didn't feel right. There's probably more disads I could put on it, but it doesn't make the Summon any cheaper. It doesn't hide so much as play dead. Simulate Death didn't quite fit though since it's a weapon. I probably should make the Attack and STR 0 END or 1/2 END. Or maybe just double the END. If you can hold out for six turns, then the sword should take some Recoveries. And Matt's probably right, it's probably cheaper to just trash it and model it with Continuous, Uncontrolled attack.
  20. Here's my attempt at a Dancing Weapon creature. It comes in at less that a bear and considerably more dangerous. 21. Re: YACttTOR (Yet Another Challenge to the Theory of Relativity): Space-Time no More To me, it screams stasis fields. Pump enough energy to separate time and space and now your object is neatly suspended in timeless space. FTL = time travel is because if you perceive events backwards than since your reference point is as valid as anyone else's, you are effectively going backwards in time. What the theory may allow, possibly, is the ability to say, time is screwed up (because I'm in a time machine) and it may appear that I can go back and kill my grandfather before my dad was born, but in the correct universal reference frame, my grandfather must have lived.
  22. Re: Too Transform Transform is the Dark Matter of the Champions Universe. We shouldn't need it, but it is what makes the rest of the calculations work without having to rewrite how the basic laws work. That being said, I have longed for a Creation-type power so I can stop transforming Air into things. I've even gone as far as Summoining nearly inanimate creatures into being and tasking them to act like a couch RATHER than transforming the air into a couch. But, that's a minor quibble I suppose.
  23. Re: Kill the Dude with the Thing Since he's not invisible this phase, I use my Cosmic Thingy to switch to a 4D6 RKA and kill the Dude and steal his Thing. Ah, 60 point Cosmic Thingy, is there anything you can't do?
  24. Re: Dishonor- New Disadvantage I think that's already included in the social limitation. If you're Famous or a Slave or whatever, there are consequences just being around and socializing with them, hence the social disadvantage.
  25. Re: Traveler's Purse - Magic Item I'd like that as well. As my new tagline suggests, I didn't major in economics but my players require the economy to work flawlessly and with mercilessly nitpick it to death if I let them. The trick that I currently use is converting from current dollars back into the equivalent silver, which works as long as I also adjust for lack of modernization (magic supplements this) and a healthy dose of fudge. Always add fudge.
