  2. Re: What's the most useless supplement you'd actually like to see? Teh Ultimate Tyop!
  3. Re: A look at Damage Reduction Armor, force field or PD/ED with resistant defenses on it with the appropriate limitations can copy most of the large scale effects of damage reduction. All you need to do is buy additional defense, resistant or not, and apply a limitation that says that you only get to apply the first 5 points if the attack exceeds N points, the next 5 points if the attack exceeds N + M points and so on. N and M you pick based on what sort of defense you have outside of the 'damage reduction' and how much of it you are trying to emulate. Damage reduction grows in effectiveness in direct proportion to the size of the incoming damage, so all you need to do to copy its effect is scale the additional defense the same way.
  4. Re: A look at Damage Reduction That works fine unless you have damage reduction that doesn't work against all attacks. Damage reduction works great as a mechanic for adding flavor like added defenses only versus martial arts or added defenses only vs fire or somesuch. It's a little less good as a lazy way of making a person harder to KO. The only good thing about it is that it makes it relatively easy to create a villain who is really tough, but just about anybody can affect, even if only a little bit. Then again, with the flexibility of the Hero System, a similar effect can be achieved without using damage reduction if you put your mind to it.
  5. Re: Weakest Supers in books you've read?
  6. Re: CSLs and upkeep... Othello markers work pretty good if you're playing Champions. (and you can't put levels into damage classes)
  7. Re: Weakest Supers in books you've read? Isn't Hyatt superhumanly strong? When she's conscious, I mean.
  8. Re: Weakest Supers in books you've read? If we're including anime, then I'm nominating all seven of the Aasu sisters from Puni Puni Poemi. Especially the one with super-breakfall.
  9. Re: Anime Gothic Western Hero? My take on it would be to watch Cowboy Bebop. Ignore all the technological elements, just focus on the things that make it go. Bounty hunters, ex-lawmen, gambling debts, deadly rivalries, organized crime, gang warfare, food shortages and guns, guns, guns. And a wicked cool soundtrack.
  10. Re: Help with a Name Wasn't that a SNL skit?
  11. Re: Weakest Supers in books you've read? Didn't Polar Boy eventually make the Legion? He's clearly no candidate for this contest. Stone Boy, on the other hand ought to at least get a mention. His ability to transform himself into solid stone is somewhat powerful, even if his stone form isn't impervious to damage, simply resistant. Of course, the drawback associated with always being unconscious when your power is active leaves quite a bit to be desired. The amount of villainy you can overcome while unconscious is pretty limited. I figure antennae lad can be replaced with a police scanner (or other high tech equivalent) Double Header, not so convenient, unless you have a spare head lying around.
  12. Re: Weakest Supers in books you've read? That's why I put my vote in for Double Header, dude. Almost as useless as Antennae lad.
  13. Re: Weakest Supers in books you've read? It's gotta be Double Header, of the Legion of Substitute Heroes...Reserves. He has two heads. Oooh, I'm quaking.
  14. Re: Info On The First Champions Ever Exerpt from the dedication page of the 1st printing of Champions: Glenn "Icestar" Thain Steve "Force" Goodman Bruce "Marksman" Harlick Stacy "Mind Maid" Laurence Doug "Mercenary" Garret The Tuesday Night Gang Not all of these characters became regular members of the Guardians and several more were added.
  15. Re: Do you allow Find Weakness in games using Hit Locations? Why does Find Weakness work on defenses with invisible power effects?
  16. Re: Faster than a speeding bullit... You can calculate muzzle velocities if you want, but as far as game terms are concerned, a bullet (and indeed, any ranged attack that is not bought with some sort of limitation to change this fact) is essentially infinitely fast.
  17. Re: Do you allow Find Weakness in games using Hit Locations? Another thing I dislike about Find weakness. You can never be safe. Sure, the example of the gnome and the guy in platemail seems to justify FW. On the other hand, consider the situation where the gnome is attacking something that does not have any gaps or seams in its armor. A seamless force field, a sphere of solid metal or somesuch. How much lack of weakness do you need to be immune to Find Weakness? Doesn't matter. You can never buy enough LoW to protect yourself from a lucky roll. Justify that.
  18. Re: Do you allow Find Weakness in games using Hit Locations? Find Weakness has not and never has ever corresponded to any sort of precision targetting. (or else you would not be able to apply it to explosions or area effects) Rather, it is an ability to induce a weakness in a target to damage generated by you, directly or not. (depending on how much Find Weakness you bought) I mean, if you buy Find Weakness that affects all attacks and make the roll against someone who then goes fully invisible and then you drop a hand grenade or drive over them in a vehicle and it nails them at 1/2 defenses, how precise can that be? Whether or not you allow Find Weakness in your game should not have anything to do with using hit location rules. Apples and oranges.
  19. Re: Fantasy Races Probably rather a lot like Ironclaw.
  20. Re: Goofy hero names that you still love Every character from Fight-Man. Big Strong Man, Bigger Stronger Man and Biggest Strongest Man, etc.
  21. Re: catch I'm wondering if there shouldn't be some STR component as well as an OCV vs OCV roll. After all, it's one thing to catch a ball tossed to you with an effective STR of -10 behind it and one hurled with a brick's full strength. Assuming that by 'catch' you mean grab and control as opposed to simply get hit in the hands by.
  22. Re: Do you allow Find Weakness in games using Hit Locations? I dunno. I've always found it somewhat incompatible, the notion that first, you can target someone so precisely that he only has 1/2, 1/4 or even less of their defenses and the notion that you are so imprecise, you might hit him in the head and might hit him in the toe on the same roll...
  23. Re: I need a strong woman that flies. Mink from Dragon Half is a (well, duh) half-dragon girl with superstrength and flight (tiny wings). The bunnygirl from the Daicon IV anime (I call her Twilight) has superstrength and flight, although it's by surfing on a flying sword.
  24. Re: is this legal? I think you'd better have your GM clarify what a 12DC cap means to him. Otherwise, you'd be better off with a 60 str character with a 4d6 HKA, 12" of stretching and 60 active points of Find weakness... ...what? It's all 60 ap or less. It's legal isn't it?
