  1. Re: So...what "Brick Tricks" or "Speed Tricks" would you give The Super clan? Here's some of those 'further thoughts'... -Freeze Breath/Super Breath (selective between wind & cold 'sfx') -Crazy tunneling (either 'spin' or 'super smash through') -Massive Change Environment Powers or Megascale Transform to simulate environmental changes (I can recall his creating a hurricane on Titan, and negating various natural disasters such as Earthquakes and Volcanoes at various points) -Extra strength for lifting, throwing, etc. Probably with a Megascale modifier option (he can throw things into Orbit, move near planetary masses, etc). -Wonky sensory abilities (X-ray vision, microscopic vision, telescopic vision, full EM spectrum perception, HRRH for television & radio etc, ultrasonic hearing, 'super hearing', super-sensitive touch, etc etc etc) -And all of his mighty powers become all the more potent when used in conjunction with one another (for example, he's performed X-ray vision/heat vision brain surgery before to temporarily remove an opponent's powers vs. Manchester Black) -Super fast versions of just about any task (maybe lots of Overall Levels vs. time modifiers so he can just make a massive roll to do almost anything in one phase) Those are all that spring to mind at the moment.
  2. Re: Street Level NYC heros Pulse - Devin Bergstrauss was born near Dusseldorf, Germany in 1921 where he grew to adulthood. Drafted into service during World War II, Devin found himself wounded in northern France in 1943, and fleeing the allied forces. Stumbling into a ruined monastary, he was tended by the monks who concealed him during the final days of the conflict. Devin spent several years with these kindly men, who invested the disillusioned warrior with their sense of purpose, faith, and devotion to the cause of good. He left them in the early 1950s, beginning travels across Europe and northern Africa as a “gentleman adventurer” and scholar. During his travels Devin studied archaeology and occult lore, clashed with the predecessors of DEMON and other forces of darkness, and discovered a damaged Lyonessan powerstone in a crumbling temple in Egypt. Recognizing the latent power of this discovery, Devin returned to the monks for advice on how to proceed. Dark followers of the long banished Lords of Edom trailed him to the hidden monastary, and the ensuing conflict slew several of the monks and badly injured Devin’s mind. The surviving monks used the energies of the powerstone in order to save his life, an arrangement that provided Devin several fortuitous but unexpected side effects. Now linked to the stone, he has ceased to age appreciably (perhaps one year for the passage of a thousand is his best estimate), and may tap into it’s diminished energies to produce a variety of startling mystical effects. In the decades since then, he has traveled many lands, adopting several identities (during the cold war he fought alongside several “Silver Age” superheroes in Europe as Sonnenstern, then dropped from sight for a decade only to return stateside as Liberator in the late 1970s). Devin owns a small brownstone and runs an antique shop in New York. Currently, he has adopted the name of Pulse, and in this fresh persona continues his unending battle against evil on the streets of his adopted city. Zephyr - Bill Renvold grew up in San Diego, where his parents still live. He did well enough at school, graduating with a degree in Business Administration from NYU. Bill was coasting through life, moving into a position with the human resources department of a Manhattan publishing company... most people thought things were looking pretty decent for Bill. Except for the fact he was bored to death. Bill’s latent mutant powers had kicked in during those college years, and events around him now moved with the speed of molasses in winter. Waiting in line at a grocery store was an excercise in patience, while the Department of Motor Vehicles was now something he avoided at all costs. He adopted the identity of Zephyr shortly after moving to the west Bay Area, and has fought crime all over the state of New York since doing so. Early in his career, Zephyr rescued the wife of a wealthy industrialist, who gifted him with the bullet-roof “speed suit” he now wears (and who continues to provide for regular maintenance of it as well). Zephyr is having the time of his life, and cannot imagine doing anything else! Gorgon - Carole Reihms had always dreamed of following in her father’s footsteps and becoming a law enforcement officer. Her dad was a good cop, a great father, and she and her sister were both stunned and traumatized when he was killed in the line of duty during a drug store robbery while she was in high school. Carole grew increasingly determined to “make a difference”, and went to CSU, Sacramento where she majored in Criminology. After a stint with the Sacramento County Sherriff’s Department, she was wounded in a shootout while busting a meth lab. Carole realized that she would need more than a badge to truly impact the criminals who had killed her father and continued to terrorize innocent people. She began to evaluate what would be necessary for her to make a difference in the shadows, as a vigilante. Five more long years passed, and Carole had greatly expanded her repertoire of skills, had acquired some equipment through black market channels and crafted some as well, and had transferred to the New York Police Department where she’d been promoted to the rank of Detective. Now she was ready to take the battle to the streets in a new identity, as a creature of legend whose name would evoke terror in the superstitious criminals of the city... as Gorgon! Singularity - Dr. David Somner is considered one of the leading minds in the study of astrophysics, especially in the area of experimental models in the field of quantum mechanics. By age 25 he had achieved his second doctorate, he had post-doctorate work widely published and became a tenured Professor at Princeton by 32. Dr. Somner has numerous awards, several unique patents, and is a generally famed and respected member of the scientific community. Dr. Somner has a secret. Aside from his academic achievements, his fulfilling home life with his wife Rebecca (a professor in the Geosciences department) and precocious daughter Yvette, and the regular public speaking engagements, David has discovered something else that struck him as something of a surprise. He’s a superhero. When developing a prototype spectral analysis device for measuring the gas readings of distant astronomical structures, there was an accident... the device drew amazing amounts of power from the electrical grid of the entire northeastern portion of the United States, collapsing in on itself in a wild conflagration that enveloped David and hurled him across the room. The specific “distant astronomical structure” being measured was what is suspected to be a “supermassive black hole”, and somehow a linkage developed between David Somner and this distant cosmic force. He found himself able to increase his specific mass, become diffuse and intangible, and sense or manipulate the mass of other objects at range. Taking a sabbatical (something the other faculty considered long overdue), he spent some time at the family’s Appalachian lodge (having multiple patents pays rather nicely) to develop control over these abilities. David has achieved much in his life, but now is surprised at the pleasure his direct actions give him as Singularity. Prism - A crystalline lifeform from another world, gifted with amazing powers over the light spectrum, Prism has befriended a small group of youth in Brooklyn during his exile to Earth. At their urging, he battles crime while attempting to learn more about the strange creatures he now lives among. I've got 350 point writeups for all of them but Prism (he's 372, and is a 4ed write up) if you end up wanting any. Just PM me.
  3. Re: Batman VS Captain America! yeah right... Black Adam
  4. Re: So...what "Brick Tricks" or "Speed Tricks" would you give The Super clan? I'd say that to 'accurately' design Superman, you'd just about have to include a VPP on top of a Multipower... or have a very lenient GM with a very high end 'Powers Tricks' roll (probably several for the different 'sfx'). Commonly used tricks include: -Welding with heat vision -Super accurate throwing/hitting/movement -Various 'super speed' tricks ("I put those cotton balls in your ears while moving through the ship so your hearing wouldn't be damaged, Lois") -He's used the 'hit and gone so fast you can't even see him' in numerous comics -The usual cornucopia of 'brick tricks' There's more, but Superman:the Animated Series is about to start on Boomerang. I'll post further thoughts later...
  5. Re: Alternate Earth: Superman 2005 Hmmm... not bad, not bad. But something seems to be missing. I got it! How about something like - this?
  6. Re: Alternate Earth: Superman 2005 Best case scenario? He gets his powers from Earth's yellow sun, wears a blue body suit with red cape, and has all the traditional super powers. Raised by Jonathan and Martha Kent to have strong moral values and be an iconic representation of all that is Good... you know, Truth, Justice, and the American Way/Hope. Since super-heroes have never been presented, it'd be just as likely that the origin/powers/appearance would be as they originally were depicted. Assuming you get a creative team with the vision and creativity of Siegel & Shuster to do it. Worst case scenario? He wears a kewl black & silver bodysuit, gets his powers from radiation/toxic waste/is bitten by a radioactive wombat while struck by lightning, and his powers are something SUPER L33T! Like he shoots knives out of his hands and heals when people cut him up! Yeah baby! His code of morality could be something awesome like "kill em first... I'm the best there is at what I do!" And we'd need him to fight a giant mechanical spider right off the bat, 'cuz spiders are the most savage killers in the $%@@ animal kingdom! Ewwwwwww...
  7. Re: What Would Your Character Do #33 Adamant would certainly be concerned about the socio-political implications of such a stance. He's a devout Christian as well, but since he's pretty vehemently Protestant, the specific stance of the Pope isn't all that relevant to his own views on the subject... after all, he's more concerned with the five Solas than the statements of any one religious leader. Also, he's spent over 150 years considering this subject given his abiding focus on theology and philosophy - so is unlikely to agree given his own beliefs on the subject. Vindicator wouldn't give a flying turd on the subject. Chemo as a Catholic would be extremely concerned regarding this issue, something along the lines of "I don't have a soul?! Gah! When did that happen?" Heh.
  8. Re: ARAGENT Super Villians I'm thinking Laser, Blowtorch, Ladybug, Beamline. I love the Avar-VIII idea.
  9. Re: Build your own "New Avengers"! Captain America Thor Iron Man Wonder Man Vision Hawkeye Edit: oh, and the Scarlet Witch... can't believe I forgot Wanda.
  10. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? ... my in-laws snoring. No, really. They're sleeping seven feet from me.
  11. Re: Sky High The Movie I'm really looking forward to seeing this movie with my daughter. She expresses extreme enthusiasm every time a commercial comes on (during JLU for example, or Boomerang's Superman: the Animated Series - both of which we watch together routinely). The casting is excellent, the plot seems entertaining... and I love the clips I've seen so far. I just have one question... 'When did Snake Pliskin become a superhero? Isn't he more of a punisher type than a flag suit?'
  12. Re: Eurostar : where will I find more details ? The 4th Edition variant of them is in 'Classic Enemies' as well, which you can probably find if you look around. Arguably even scarier than their newest incarnation... /shudder
  13. Re: Personal Super-Vehicles I completely agree... they're cost prohibitive. I wanted a spiffy transport for my PBEM submission, and realized that I'd have to cut way back on powers or skills in order to afford it ("let's see, you can be super strong or get a really cool motorcycle?!"). I'll just have to get by without the wheels...
  14. Re: Solara's flight speed Can't she just buy it as 'scaleable'? Give her greater control over velocity that way, I would think.
  15. Re: New Global Guardians PBEM Campaign Looking For Players This PBEM site is just about the sickest thing I've ever seen (and I mean that in a good way)! There's like 25+ simultaneous campaigns occuring in the 'GGU', with on average something like 4-6 characters in each. There's a very detailed timeline, encyclopedia & FAQ, house rules, and tons of really well written source material. There's posted PCs, NPCs, and a master list of limitations. Why didn't I look this up sooner? Sheesh. The Global Guardians teams (there are going to be 5 active GG teams with this one) are the high end superheroes of the GGU. There's a bunch more 350 teams, and a one or more lower powered ones (like the Venture Institute, bunch of metahuman kids). Jack and his wife (and the associated GMs) have completely outdone themselves here... definitely worth a visit if you haven't looked at it before.
  16. Re: Writer Fiat as SFX for Supervillains? In the FtF campaigns I've run the phrase "No One Could Have Survived That!" became a good natured chant uttered by the players whenever an uber-baddie perished in a fiery explosion/burst of hyper-dimensional radiation/fell into the heart of a star/whatever. It's so ingrained into the genre that we just accepted it at face value... if the author (GM) wants a villainous character back for a plot, the villain returneth. Not once did the players complain about this, and everyone had a grand old time. Closest time I ever came to a player complaint about this was the issue they had with Scorpia murdering Foresight (from Allies), who the PCs had taken a liking to as a benign (and relatively harmless) NPC... they made darn sure that Scorpia got her sentence of lethal injection carried out, even going so far as to track her down in San Muerte and drag her back to Stronghold when Terror Inc. broke her out. But nobody uttered even a groan of protest when Professor Muerte showed up with a cloned Scorpia months later (the guy leading the crusade to bring her in set the tone with 'well, Scorpia died in Stronghold... this is Scorpia v2.0'). I think 'Writer's Fiat' is a perfectly reasonable way to hand wave this sort of 'sfx'. The GM is telling a story, after all... should come with a few author's privs.
  17. Re: New Global Guardians PBEM Campaign Looking For Players Deadline is now Tuesday at midnight, just FYI.
  18. Re: Does Seeker still suck? Ever since I saw all the 'Darkwing Duck' reference to Nighthawk all I can think of is a desperate need to change his Quote to: 'Let's...get...dangerous!". I miss Seeker, he was cheesy, but you sort of knew that he KNEW his cheesiness and hence embraced it. Nighthawk is just as cheesy, but takes himself seriously.
  19. Re: Daxamites My understanding is that they possess all the same powers as Kryptonians, save that their allergy is to lead rather than Kryptonite. I could be wrong however...
  20. Re: GM Assistance I actually didn't even look at the active point cost (211). Heck that actually makes me feel better about the build, since it's obviously designed for ultra-high end campaigns. After all, if another PC has a 200+ AP power I'm gonna have one too (or want to know the reason why). Behold my 30d6 HTH Attack AE:Radius w/ Personal Immunity! Fear my mighty wrath. Or maybe my AVLD RKA vs. hardened mental defense. Hmmm... the possibilities are endless.
  21. Re: GM Assistance Note to self... next 'superman' clone should have fully invisible force field to prevent light sabre from cutting off his limbs.
  22. Re: "Super Heroes" That your character doesn't/wouldn't like Hmmm... well, none of my PCs would ever get along with Wolverine as he's presently depicted in comics. The ones who are based on enough points to handle him might expose him to some serious 'beat down' for his homicidal and irresponsible behavior. ("Oh so you think you're a samurai or some such tripe? *SMACK!* That's for Northstar! *SMACK!* And that's for setting the comic-industry back a dozen years!!") Hmmm... who else? Well, Batman would get a serious case of the 'stink eye' after his behavior in recent years. Generally most of my characters are pretty affable, friendly types... so the 'moody loners' would be viewed with suspicion, but tolerated well enough if they aren't homicidal maniacs (see above).
  23. Re: Champs Worldwide: Whaddya want? I miss Seeker. Hey, bring him back why don'cha?
  24. Re: Batman Begins "Hmmm... we gotta do something about that costume. Wings on his head? I mean really. And what's with the silly 'A' on his face? I'm thinking a black and silver bodysuit with a trenchcoat. Oh, and let's have him beat up some islamic terrorists, that ought to be good for the NASCAR crowd." Yeah, I can see that. /shudder
