Christopher R Taylor reacted to zslane in Marvel Cinematic Universe, Phase Three and BEYOOOOONND
Why does Disney think anyone would even remotely care what Eccleston's terms would be for returning as Malekith?

Unfortunately, he was the most boring villain out of all the MCU baddies from the last 10+ years. Even overshadowed by his lieutenant Kurse. Not sure why they'd revisit his character.

I agree that a more world's greatest detective costumed crime fighter approach really would be nice for a different Batman kind of show. Fewer gadgets, less kung fu, more getting clues and fighting crime. That format works better for a series TV type thing than the world shattering danger of the month.

Absolutely. Obviously being in a superheroic world, there is leeway to introduce fantastical elements.
I think the Gothic backdrop provides for something that visually lifts it out of typical police procedural, the superhero world allows for elements of colour in contrast to that Gothic world. It would need a responsible attitude to villains like Joker. If you make Joker casually homicidal then you raise stakes about killing him, if you use him as a challenge to Batman's ingenuity then you have puzzles with high stakes IF Batman cannot deliver. In Dark Knight Batman fails to stop either of the explosions set up by the Joker. In this series he should find a way for noone to die and possibly prevent both explosions.
I want my superheroes to start being not only heroic, but superheroic.

I think everyone is SO over the BatGod aspect of Batman and we are probably poised for a brilliant TV series about the World's Greatest Detective.
I think if you got a decent ensemble cast you could do something a bit less grimdark, not 1960's camp, not the nihilistic fun of Gotham but a street level superhero leaning more heavily on his detective skills and anticipation than kewl ninja fighting.
If they could get away from the fighting and opponents that are defeated through violent encounters, there might be space for good story-telling and interesting thought pieces about vigilantism and citizenship.

Christopher R Taylor reacted to Duke Bushido in De Train, Boss! It's de train!
Doing a bit of research for something else and I stumbled across this:
http://www.greatwestern.org.uk/coach_draw.htm
Good stuff for the pulp era all the way up to WW2, should you ever need pictures or just a solid idea for a period-accurate map of assorted train cars.

Scorsese I think has a point in his comparison, as he is a skilled film maker, and he has done more than just Mafia films. (The Aviator is a favorite). But he is bringing up the high art versus Low art dichotomy, and is assigning the MCU to the Low Art category. Not entirely fair, but not entirely unwarranted, either. "Cinema" in that perspective, means stories the observe and comment on the contemporary human condition. "Movies" are escapist. Nothing wrong with either, but I am not much of a consumer of angst and depression.

Its a skill that short-form communication like texting and tweeting damages.

Meanwhile I don't think Images would need any changing in a 7th edition but I agree extremely with the idea that light should be in Change Environment, NOT Images. But there needs to be a really cheap way to make little stuff like that work, as its kind of expensive in the game right now to reverse a -4 PER penalty for darkness.

OK now this hasn't just been an exercise in theory or discussion, I have actually been working on this for a while with a thought toward publication, and Jason has given me the GO sign to put this thing out, as part of hero's Community Content Project. If there's enough interest and excitement, maybe some additional modules and content can be released as well.

Christopher R Taylor reacted to ScottishFox in Fantasy HERO Conversion Fun
My group had so much fun plowing through Fantasy HERO converted War for the Crown (Pathfinder) that I've talked them into something that I've wanted to do for a long time.
Pillars of Eternity 1 as a Fantasy HERO campaign.
There's so much good Wikipedia information available for the game (spell lists, maps, lore, etc.) that I will be converting the game setting & mechanics to Fantasy HERO.
None of my players have gone through the PC game so there is a TON of great storytelling to be had.
Updates to follow.

Gunn shouldn't be working on anything remotely related to something kids might enjoy or family may be involved in, in my opinion. He's got some serious problems.

Actually, they never did. They removed him from the third Guardians movie and pretended to sever ties with him, but it was all for show. They never "re-hired" him either since he was never actually fired in the first place.
