  1. Wow. this has finally drifted away. I have been reading Turakian Age in small chunks in preparation for a Turakian Age Game taking place later this year. Discussions with the GM just had us replace the Erqigdlit with my Lupines as they make a better PC choice. The GM is using a custom magic system, and is enforcing a late bronze age tech with iron/steel being a rarity. So it's not entirely out of the book and have a flavor straight from the GM. This may be the second time I have played a halfling, though HD has a problem with STR subtraction for the halfling Package Deal (or Template as it's a 6e game.(
  2. And yesterday's numbers from Styx Hexenhammer:
  3. If it was just Lost and Fringe, I wouldn’t care, but it’s the wholesale destruction of formerly entertaining franchises, by Abrams, and his acolytes.
  4. Unfortunately, you are in the clear minority, in that regard, as many modern textbooks are equally as cluttered. Two column with quarter page illustrations in black and white or worse, gray scale sketches look antique, or worse , boring to the modern audiences. For better or for worse, Paizo has set a high bar for appealing and attractive product for a young and modern audience. It’s forcing me to abandon ink line illustrations for digital painting so I can still get work.
  5. The Second is what I meant. For myself I am working (very slowly) on a couple of supplements, one that will include 4th edition stat blocks, and then converted to 6th, and another with 5th. converted to 6th. But it's really slow.
  6. 4e is unavailable. Would have to be 5th or 6th, for new publishing.
  7. From Wikipedia: The Type 38 at 1,280 mm (50.4 in) was the longest rifle of the war, due to the emphasis on bayonet training for the Japanese soldier of the era, whose average height was 160 centimeters (5 ft 3 in).[7] The rifle was even longer when the 400 mm (15.75 inches) Type 30 bayonet was fixed. The Type 38 was fairly heavy, at about 4.25 kg. That means a total length of around 65 in. from butt to tip of the blade. I think the Mokuju may be a little shorter.
  8. It's not. it's a mokujū which is a slightly abstracted form of the Japanese Type 38 Rifle and Type 30 Bayonet combo, which even at full weight was only 9lbs. (10 with the bayonet). I have two of these in my closet (with the bayonet), and it's got a lot of reach.
  9. I have to wear a mask at all times when I am in my clinic. https://www.nytimes.com/2020/03/17/opinion/coronavirus-face-masks.html
  10. I think it would be simpler to reprint and repackage the Champions 2e (gray cover) box set as a 40th anniversary Edition next year for the 40th anniversary. 50 pages of rules, Easy to learn, then maybe springboard to 5th edition, but that's just my 2 cents.
  11. We all figured it out pretty quickly after Pacificon 81, and were playing by the time School started, So our weekends were all Champions all the time. You learn pretty quickly.
  12. Like, the way it can be played in three levels. You can do maps in three levels. Level one has an off white sheet with a hex grid on it. it also has ruler tools that are accurate to the hex grid scale so you can use the ruler and turn the grid off, if you so choose. Even in this level one, you can use the pen tool to "draw' directly on the map with what ever color you choose, and the result is similar to what was once done on Chessex battle mats with water soluble markers (wasserlosich pens). The second level is to load pre generated map images, either found online, or drawn and scanned by the GM. These can be free, or paid, or what have you and the tools in TTS will allow you to scale the image up and down as you see fit to use in the game. This will look similar to what is seen in Roll 20, with full color maps or photo downloads of overhead views of areas. As for GM preparation, there are some pre-made characters, such as Soldiers, thugs and average humans, one can use as base starting characters, BUT any powerful characters or Supers will need to be built or baked from Hero Designer files, and pre-loaded in so that one has them ready to load into the combat controller. It's not really set up for a gGM to generate powerful characters on the fly, But it IS set up to run endless standard mooks, with just one version of their stats. The Third Level involves a lot of work, but the results are spectacular. Going through the TTS workshop on steam, one can find free OBJ models and Unity assets that can be used in your game, with miniatures (some that move), buildings, terrain pieces, props and scenery dressing, to make a fully 3D environment for your heroes to interact with. The assets are free, but the Gm will have to collect and organize them, and put them into "chests" that can be unpacked or packed with a click, as the GM needs them. Lighting effects, and environmental effects can be added, changing the lighting to night time with street lamps, or magical effects providing illumination if necessary.
  13. Two cases in sonoma county, so far, none here in Santa Rosa. I'm reading paperbacks and plowing through my Netflix/ Amazon queue.
  14. More Map (this one connects to the east side of the one above.)
  15. friend noted that his CPA is 70+ years old, and has closed due to the Shut down in the 5 Bay Area counties in the San Francisco Areas. Pushing the tax deadline off would be wise
  16. I am of the opposite point of view. To me Champions was a war game simulation of Superheroes with RPG elements added to give the conflicts emotional context. This was 1981. The whole Amber Diceless Roleplay, and mechanical minimalism came much later. I do like fighting the ship. I do like minis on the maps. I think story is what you tell after the session is over. If you want to tell a story, write a book 🤔
  17. The Kingdom on Netflix. This is a Korean Period Drama of two seasons, based on a book "Kingdom of Blood". It takes place 3 years after the unsuccessful Japanese Invasion of Korea. It has a twist, but no spoilers, other than thematically its pretty close to current year.
  18. You mean like Disney? Disney was already heavily in debt due to the Acquisition of 20th Century Fox. This is the debt burden that forced the board to boot out Bob Eiger. Now all the parks are closed, worldwide. All cruises are Cancelled. All movie releases are suspended. Their operating expenses, even if they furlough a lot of their "cast members", are immense. At some point they are going to start divesting properties, and trimming of poor performing divisions. I think we will see a very different Disney on the other side of this.
  19. From my HOA. Stanford Notes on Coronavirus The new Coronavirus may not show sign of infection for many days. How can you know if you are infected? By the time you have fever and/or cough and go to the hospital, the lung is usually 50% fibrosis. Taiwan experts provide a simple self-check that we can do every morning: Take a deep breath and hold it for more than 10 seconds. If you do this successfully without coughing, without discomfort, stiffness or tightness, there is no fibrosis in the lungs; it basically indicates no infection. In critical times, please self-check every morning in an environment with clean air. Serious excellent advice by Japanese doctors treating COVID-19 cases: Everyone should ensure your mouth & throat are moist, never dry. Take a few sips of water every 15 minutes at least. Why? Even if the virus gets into your mouth, drinking water or other liquids will wash them down through your throat and into the stomach. Once there, your stomach acid will kill all the virus. If you don't drink enough water regularly, the virus can enter your windpipe and then the lungs. That's very dangerous. Please send and share this with family and friends. Take care everyone and may the world recover from this Coronavirus soon. IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT - CORONAVIRUS: 1. If you have a runny nose and sputum, you have a common cold. 2. Coronavirus pneumonia is a dry cough with no runny nose. 3. This new virus is not heat-resistant and will be killed by a temperature of just 26/27 degrees C. (About 77 degrees F.) It hates the Sun. 4. If someone sneezes with it, it goes about 10 feet before it drops to the ground and is no longer airborne. 5. If it drops on a metal surface it will live for at least 12 hours - so if you come into contact with any metal surface, wash your hands as soon as you can with a bacterial soap. 6. On fabric it can survive for 6-12 hours. normal laundry detergent will kill it. 7. Drinking warm water is effective for all viruses. Try not to drink liquids with ice. 8. Wash your hands frequently as the virus can only live on your hands for 5-10 minutes, but - a lot can happen during that time - you can rub your eyes, pick your nose unwittingly and so on. 9. You should also gargle as a prevention. A simple solution of salt in warm water will suffice. 10. Can't emphasis enough - drink plenty of water! THE SYMPTOMS: 1. It will first infect the throat, so you'll have a sore throat lasting 3/4 days 2. The virus then blends into a nasal fluid that enters the trachea and then the lungs, causing pneumonia. This takes about 5/6 days further. 3. With the pneumonia comes high fever and difficulty in breathing. 4. The nasal congestion is not like the normal kind. You feel like you're drowning. It's imperative you then seek immediate attention. 20. Well I don't know. You could always go to the surplus store and get an Mk. 19 Gas mask, an NBC suit, and a Sealed environment canteen for the face to face, game, then. ...at least for the next month or two?
  21. Spence, Brennall on the Hero Discord server is finalizing a phase one release of a Hero System skin for Tabletop Simulator. TTS costs about $20 on Steam, but the Herosystem module will be free, and handles 5th and 6th editions. It’s one way of running a game without having to deal with Roll20 and Roll20’s monthly rent for Hero GMs, while Corona-Chan from Wuhan is out and about.
