I think it would be simpler to reprint and repackage the Champions 2e (gray cover) box set as a 40th anniversary Edition next year for the 40th anniversary. 50 pages of rules, Easy to learn, then maybe springboard to 5th edition, but that's just my 2 cents.

We all figured it out pretty quickly after Pacificon 81, and were playing by the time School started, So our weekends were all Champions all the time. You learn pretty quickly.

Like, the way it can be played in three levels. You can do maps in three levels. Level one has an off white sheet with a hex grid on it. it also has ruler tools that are accurate to the hex grid scale so you can use the ruler and turn the grid off, if you so choose. Even in this level one, you can use the pen tool to "draw' directly on the map with what ever color you choose, and the result is similar to what was once done on Chessex battle mats with water soluble markers (wasserlosich pens). The second level is to load pre generated map images, either found online, or drawn and scanned by the GM. These can be free, or paid, or what have you and the tools in TTS will allow you to scale the image up and down as you see fit to use in the game. This will look similar to what is seen in Roll 20, with full color maps or photo downloads of overhead views of areas. As for GM preparation, there are some pre-made characters, such as Soldiers, thugs and average humans, one can use as base starting characters, BUT any powerful characters or Supers will need to be built or baked from Hero Designer files, and pre-loaded in so that one has them ready to load into the combat controller. It's not really set up for a gGM to generate powerful characters on the fly, But it IS set up to run endless standard mooks, with just one version of their stats. The Third Level involves a lot of work, but the results are spectacular. Going through the TTS workshop on steam, one can find free OBJ models and Unity assets that can be used in your game, with miniatures (some that move), buildings, terrain pieces, props and scenery dressing, to make a fully 3D environment for your heroes to interact with. The assets are free, but the Gm will have to collect and organize them, and put them into "chests" that can be unpacked or packed with a click, as the GM needs them. Lighting effects, and environmental effects can be added, changing the lighting to night time with street lamps, or magical effects providing illumination if necessary.

I am of the opposite point of view. To me Champions was a war game simulation of Superheroes with RPG elements added to give the conflicts emotional context. This was 1981. The whole Amber Diceless Roleplay, and mechanical minimalism came much later. I do like fighting the ship. I do like minis on the maps. I think story is what you tell after the session is over. If you want to tell a story, write a book 🤔

The Kingdom on Netflix. This is a Korean Period Drama of two seasons, based on a book "Kingdom of Blood". It takes place 3 years after the unsuccessful Japanese Invasion of Korea. It has a twist, but no spoilers, other than thematically its pretty close to current year.

You mean like Disney? Disney was already heavily in debt due to the Acquisition of 20th Century Fox. This is the debt burden that forced the board to boot out Bob Eiger. Now all the parks are closed, worldwide. All cruises are Cancelled. All movie releases are suspended. Their operating expenses, even if they furlough a lot of their "cast members", are immense. At some point they are going to start divesting properties, and trimming of poor performing divisions. I think we will see a very different Disney on the other side of this.

Spence, Brennall on the Hero Discord server is finalizing a phase one release of a Hero System skin for Tabletop Simulator. TTS costs about $20 on Steam, but the Herosystem module will be free, and handles 5th and 6th editions. It’s one way of running a game without having to deal with Roll20 and Roll20’s monthly rent for Hero GMs, while Corona-Chan from Wuhan is out and about.

I kind of have an aversion to neologistic fantasy names, so I will tend to use Earth names or similes of them to give a hint of cultural expectations, at least among “human lands”. I reserve alien names for alien creatures.

Disney will close all of its parks on Saturday. No cruise departures will occur after Saturday. Live Action Mulan release has been suspended, as with other releases. Currently there is discussion that the end of April they may reopen, but it depends. With Disney still heavily in debt from its acquisition of 20th Century Fox, the lack of income from the parks may force a lot of changes in their business. Two options that I see. a growing quagmire in Libya in the near to near medium term that will draw Europe and Russia into it, with the U.S. staying out. Medium to far term. U.S. vs. China. The Libya conflict will be an extension of the current civil war there as the two sides gain "sponsorship" from their largers. IT would be a place to combat test systems that are now theoretical, under battlefield conditions with spotty training. The Conflict might escalate, but probably only deeper into Africa, rather than spreading across the Mediterranean. A US War with china would depend on the time frame, from a few months to decades, but depending if China tries a sea borne invasion of Taiwan, and tanks rolling into Hong Kong, or if China bides it's time and drops orbital weapons on us.

As to combat maneuvers, in my game most maneuvers were open to players, most but not all. Culturally inappropriate maneuvers were usually not available, so no King Fu monks in Western Europe, sort of thing. But I did allow custom martial arts packages with some consultation.
