  1. Re: Captain Atom? Also, if Captain Atom's containment suit gets ruptured he explodes. He usually has time to get away from the fight so he doesn't nuke his allies, but its always a possibility. In the first Justice League Unlimited cartoon this happens. He flies up, explodes, scientist are able to get his 'lifeforce' back together and insert him in a new suit.
  2. Re: Running an Epic Battle Probably abstract it so that a turn is 12 minutes or so. Still make attacks rolls at apporpriate phases, but its an abstraction of the tone of the previous few minutes of the fight. (Abort to Dodge, character has been the last three minutes on the defensive). If its a large scale invasion (tens of thousands of aliens invading the world vs every superhero in the world), then I would probably use the 'mass combat' rules my friends and I have used in various other games. In that case the mass combat is abstracted, and the PCs are wandering heroes. What they do will help change the course of battle. Such encounters might be facing down an NPC hero, disabling an enemy weapon emplacement or battalion, etc. This all just a first blush at the issue, would work on it in more detail if the situation actually occurs.
  3. Re: Best SuperHero Fights ever Made great with the voice of Macho Man Randy Savage as Wrasslor.
  4. Re: SciFi Colonists True, though it greatly expands the time to between plan and execution of forming a colony mission. If the proposed planet is 50 light years away. Thats 50+ years of travel time for the probe, 50 years of transit time for the data to return to Earth to determine if the planet is even feasible. Guess its good for the colonist to know that they have 100 years of planning behind the launch.
  5. Re: SciFi Colonists Thought about this a bit more after having made the post. At the very least, the generation ship would orbit the planet for several years to make climate studies to ensure they didn't land someplace in the path of frequent hurricanes or typhoons. That would be a bit of a pain. "Yay, we traveled several hundred light years to get here, now we get to wait another decade while we study the planet." But its better than being bug food.
  6. Re: SciFi Colonists I think most of requirements have been covered. The ship should probably be biased towards life sciences as the first order of business will be discovering and immunizing the crew to new diseases. Also will need people with multiple talents, and good physical/genetic stock. People with good technical skills, not just for invention, but to keep equipment in good repair and setup new production facilities quickly. As mentioned, it might be best to take a two front approach, have new tech, but those capable in old tech (blacksmithing) in case of a return to fuedal technology levels. Also probably need some psychatrists to help recognize problems and hopefully solve interpersonal problems early (even with the limitations of psychology, its better than the 'All work and no play make Homer insane' option). The second part is where to colonize? My vote would be for a small island where the colonists would be isolated from the majority of flora and fauna until they had a chance to be established. If its a non-eco friendly colony, then local flora can leveled to dirt, and Earth based plants and animals can be introduced. After the colony is founded and stable, then its time to start exploring the world.
  7. Re: Rifts HERO? I forgot to ask the GM on our last game, will try to get some info for you.
  8. Re: System Generation You might have to ask ProFantasy, but their Cosmographer allows for mapping systems, I am not sure if it actually builds systems though. Looks similar to Traveller's system and subsector maps. Also there is a system generator by NBos. http://www.nbos.com/products/astro/astro.htm
  9. Re: Campaign writeup advice needed I put together a similar list to this for the campaign I am running (yay for lots of plane trips). I gave the players a light over view (1 - 2 paragraphs) of 1 - 3 because I knew the players would likely not start engrossed in the details until the campaign got under way. Also I presented 1 - 3, then talked to the players and came back and modified it. The biggest change, I planned to run the game in New York City, they all disliked that idea and the game is centered in fictional Epic City, NJ. 4 - 10 I have worked on behind the scenes and have a decent document of ideas I can use in the campaign. A mix of flesh for the world I could hand to another person to GM with, as well as a numerous plot seeds that I use to flesh out to full plots.
  10. Re: Rifts HERO? We've been playing Rifts for the last few months using Hero rules. Its going quite well and the GM did a good job moving the classes into Hero terms. For weapons he just uped the damage so that Megascale is in the range of 6d+ KA attacks. Armor was upped equivantly so that a tank has enough armor that it is not in danger from anything less than a dozen killing dice.
  11. Re: A Thread for Random Musings A week ago I picked up a two CD set, with the second disc being a DVD of the Rat Pack performing in St. Louis. Overall it was a very good watch but there was a surprise I was not expecting. Johnny Carson was emmceeing the event, at the end the four of them were out on state and sung "Birth of the Blues." Johnny Carson could sing.
  12. Re: Cities of the Future I haven't read Alien Wars, so I don't know the extent of extraterristial life in the human region. If there is a great deal of integration then keep in mind that cities will have to take that into account. While there might be ghettos for particular species, central gathering areas will have to be built to accomodate large body types, but not be out of proportion to smaller races.
  13. Re: Megascale Knockback and Casual Damage In keeping with the 'in-genre' fell, would there be the possibility of a Hero (or, perish the thought, villain) with Flight Power able to make a breakfall or acrobatics type roll to turn the megascale knockback in a flight path. Or even make a mega-scale knockback take extra phases (though that might put too much of a burden on knockee as they will also require extra time to make movement back to the battlefield). Its an interesting thought and definitaly adds to the epic superhero flavor, but all of the heroes would have to have impressive movement abilities in able to move around a much larger battlefield.
  14. Re: Exodus 2025: A campaign idea looking for input! Some other reasons: It eliminates the competition they will have from Earth if Earth became an interstellar power on its own. If there is another political force in the galaxy, perhaps Earth, or the area designated for human to inhabit serves as a buffer (an interstellar Belgium) As you mentioned, everyone needs a pawn and its easier to control the new race rather than an established political faction From the Alan Dean Foster novels, humans make good soldiers Two possiblities for the alien introduction would be to connect their announcement with the League of Nations if you want to make the introduction before WWII, or the United Nations if you want to make it after WWII. (not making any political statements about those two organizations, but they were the first signs of international cooperation and participation). I would recommend after WWII for two reasons. First WWII had a major impact shaping the modern world, so in my opinion, it would be hard for players to role-play it didn't happen. And second, after WWII the colonies are gaining independance from the colonial powers.
  15. Re: Teleport catcher How about Extra Dimensional Movement to a Dimension where the teleporter is laying on the ground bleeding.
  16. Re: Exodus 2025: A campaign idea looking for input! Its an interesting idea, but like Ghost-angel said, there are a few areas that might be complicated due to skipping over human history. Assuming the Aliens made no major contribution to human society until their announcement in the mid-30s, what/when did civil rights movements begin. Also, if they made their announcement over the radio, many people would not have the chance to receive this. I am not a history major, and don't know the full extent of technology invasion, but I would think large parts of Oceania, Africa, South America and the Far East would not be able to receive a radio announcement.
