  1. Re: Hulk Smash! And then writes a traffic ticket? Wow! That's a great way for him to use his time, recognition and his fame. Glad to know there are still heroes.
  2. Re: Pulparize It! Running Man - Ben Richards was a member of the American Volunteer Group in China. He was accused of strafing a village and killing the civilains there, a crime that was actually committed by the ruthless drug runner Damon Killian who was covering his tracks. Killian fears that Richards knows the truth, so when Richards is transported back to the US to stand trial, Killian takes the ship and strands the crew and prisoners on an island full of paid killers. Fighting his way through the challenges, Richards (and those trapped with him) will discover the truth and clear his name.
  3. Re: Star Trek Online (Star Trek's new MMO) I wonder if somewhere in the game there will be an Imperial Star Destroyer...
  4. Re: A Thread for Random Musings First day this week I wear a white shirt and I get a bloody nose. Great.
  5. Re: Star Trek Online (Star Trek's new MMO) Its the lack of world impact that I find difficult to engage me. Every adventure you go through will have been completed a thousand times before, and will be completed a thousand times after. Its one thing that I think would be good with GM interactive games such as the Neverwinter Nights Persistant Worlds. You can actually impact the world (if there are GMs willing to put in the effort). It has the advantage of having multiple people interacting (more than just the six people sitting around a table, which I think is an advantage, but with GM interaction, all players can be more involved in the game world. I understand why this can't be done on a large scale, otherwise the 13 year olds on summer break would finish every quest while the full time professionals would get bread crumbs, but it ruins the RP experience for me in the large MMO worlds.
  6. Re: IK Hero? From the arcane stand point, I don't mind d20s separation of Wizards and Sorcerors. Wizards learn spells through study and practice, while sorcerors have some innate ability to see and shape arcane forces. Building the magic system with Hero does allow reshaping of the spell lists to better reflect the setting. I have only glanced at KS's webpage, but I could see building sorcerors with an MP (they have a limited number of spells they know, but can cast like mad) and wizards with a VPP that can only be changed through meditation. Spells could cost long term END that is only recovered with sleep. For Clerics. Not sure about the system, perhaps similar to the wizard VPP changed by prayer. For the limitation on Healing per day, total number of BODY healed per day must be equal to or less than the Cleric's EGO rolle (ie, if the EGO roll is 11-, the Cleric can only heal 11 total BODY per day). If the subject is not of the Cleric's faith, then the Cleric needs to make an EGO roll or can't heal the subject. Then add in all the fun side effects of healing.
  7. Re: Star Trek Online (Star Trek's new MMO) I expect it to have the same problem as all MMO games. NPC to PC (Ensign Gregory Petalion): Congratulations, you are the first to discover the Hyptighari culture. This is the most important day in the history of Star Fleet. Thanks to your brilliant strategy Star Fleet has made peaceful contact with them. Here is 1000 xp and 1.5 Credits. 8. Re: Works Well in the Source Material, not so Well in the Game Part two of this is, if done on the board, or through Roleplay, how do you get the PCs unconcious. Either have to use some sort of plot device (which they won't like, or will like and want to grab on the way out so they can use it) or do so in a fight. This begs the question for the players are there certain fights we're supposed to win, and certain fights were supposed to lose. If that's the case then the players may 'give up' anytime a fight is too challenging figureing that the GM has some death trap he wants to put them in.
  9. Re: Is Stunned Visible? We usually say that the NPC seems to stumble, may go down to a knee, looks punch drunk. All euphemisms for CON stunned.
  10. Re: Pulparize It! Although I am loathe to mention it: Pokemon - Well, not trying to capture poor defenseless creatures in tiny spheres. Instead, at the height of the depression, X number of friends decide to leave the dust bowl and try to find work, or at least some reason to live when it seems like civilization is at its breaking point. Each town they come across has its problems, from bootleggers trying to control the population to missing children, a drunkard of a doctor that needs to sober up to help deliver a baby, or a crashed aircraft in the middle of the wilderness.
  11. Re: Supe it up! Con-Air - Really the same movie, except that the aircraft was holding superhuman criminals. One of them is a Hero either wrongfully convicted, or a Hero who stepped over the line and is preparing to get his life back in order. Criminals go off on their own, and a few team up for mutual support.
  12. Re: Pulparize It! Indiana Jones and the Temple of Doom - A group of adventurers find an impoverished village. They go to the local palace and discover that things are not what they seem. Add in some mysticism, searching for lost gems and a final fight against the cultists. Hey, this is easy.
  13. Re: Infiltrate the facility I like the idea of a second gang attacking the facility at the same time. Especially if the players quietly entered the facility, and suddenly they find themselves in the position of trying to help the innocents caught in the crossfire, while stealing the device they came to get. If you are trying to flesh out the people, then there's nothing like having the PCs and NPCs locked in a cafeteria trying to find some way out to bring out some emotions. Depending on the scrupples of the team. The inside man could have leaked to Draconis that he had the designs, but lied. He just wants/needs a ride off the planet for his family and the only way he could get was by convincing Draconis he had something to sell them.
  14. Re: DC Suckverse? I don't see comics in conveinance stores any more, but Borders, Books-a-Million and Barnes and Noble all have monthlies, and an ever increasing TPB selection. At the toy stores, the big two sometimes package comics with their toys (not that I browse the toy aisles ). There is still plenty of exposure to comics (at least for the big 2) outside of the comic shop.
  15. Re: Extrasolar planets An article in the Christian Science Monitor about finding extra solar planets. http://www.csmonitor.com/2006/0126/p03s02-stss.html
  16. Re: Musings on Random Musings I must have missed that accusation.
  17. Re: What are the must have books? Another nice thing about CKC is that every villain has a few plot hooks. This is a great way to spur some ideas, or even put together a quick adventure if the imagination is running on fumes for a game. IMO, the plot seeds really help make the book more than just a collection of stats.
  18. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... After a bit of infighting and the suggestion; "20,000 credits split 3-ways is a lot more than 20,000 split five ways," one of the players adjusted the books... "We play System 5th Edition, Hero is not involved."
