  1. Re: We Need More....CHAINSAWS!!!! I happen to LIKE pulling the string. The hard jerking motion is like an appetizer to the feast of carnage that is to come. Whoops, did I say that out loud? The pull start is great for Pre Attacks, though. Especially if you have the right laugh when you do it.
  2. I just confused myself. On page 106 of FREd, it says +1 Per with a single sense for +1 character point (as opposed to the sense group rate of +1 for 2 points). On page 108, it says Telescopic (Per only to counter range modifiers) is also +1 Per for +1 Character point (although it's group rate, 2 per for 3 points, is better). I don't get it. It's really no more expensive to buy straight up Perception enhancers for a sense than to buy it just to overcome modifiers? I didn't see a comment in the errata, so this must be right . . .
  3. Re: We Need More....CHAINSAWS!!!! Nice. I would require the continuos, because if you stick a guy with a chainsaw, and it's going, it's gonna keep doing damage even when it's not your turn. I might have slapped on a few fuel charges, and an extra time, only to start it up. (it takes me a while to get my chainsaw going)
  4. Re: How to: Cup on the River Oceanus Would I need to call it 'specific being' as well? hmmm, maybe I'll just give the boat Shrinking, costs End only to activate, not while occupied
  5. I've been trying to do a writeup of the Greek god Helios, the original god of the sun (yes, Apollo was also god of the sun, but not until 5th century BC. The Greeks had terrible story continuity ) Anyway, according to legend, Helios would start each day on the Isle of Rhodes, travel west across the sky, land, and ride back home in a cup on the river oceanus, which crosses the whole earth. Now, making an extradimensional base called the isle of rhodes was easy. How do I do the other stuff though? I was thinking of just adding Extra-time to the extra-dimensional transport (it takes a while to navigate the river). Would that work? Is it legal to summon a vehicle? I was going to make the normal sized cup as a focus used to summon the vehicle (it grows and turns into something you can ride in). (insert joke about cup size here) once I earn some experience points, I'll have him learn to navigate the river better, and turn it into a multipower with megascale teleports) While I'm asking questions, I'd better see what you think of his armor. According to legend, he wore gem-encrusted armor that made such a dance of light that it was impossible to look right at him. here's my take: Bejeweled Armor 12 rPD 12 rED; +½ ×2 Hardened, +¼ Difficult to Dispel (63 Active Points); -½ OIF, -1 Activation Roll [11- Only covers hit locations 4,5,9-13] (25 Real Points) plus 10 Power Defense 10 Mental Defense, +¼ Difficult to Dispel (25 Active Points); -½ OIF (17 Real Points) plus 3d6 Sight Group Flash; +¼ Personal Immunity, +½ 0 End, +1 Continuous, +½ Persistent, +¾ Explosion [1 DC every 2â€] (60 Active Points); -½ No Range, -½ OIF, -½ Always On (24 Real Points) 66 Real Points
  6. Re: Sci-Fi Game or Porno Flick? Not gonna read through three pages of posts to see if anybody else mentioned it, but, while Star hero won't win anybody on sheer title, Terran Empire and Alien Wars might. Fantasy Hero sounds dull, but Turakian Age doesn't. Plus, they have nice covers. Once people get pulled into those, they'll get the genre books, having realized the flexibility of the system.
  7. Re: Modern-Day Fantasy Has anybody read The Knight of the Word series, by Terry Brooks? It's very good (and I don't say that about many of his books) It deals with a demon slayer, who uses magic, in the modern world. It features fairies, elves, dragons, etc all beneath the notice of the mundane world.
  8. Re: Jedi Ghosts and fade-to-deaths? I just asked because I just glanced through the official Star Wars (d20 version). They said a jedi character could opt to do it if they had at least 10 'force points' still on 'em when they died. Or something to that effect. I'll agree that force-spirits should be NPC's, so it makes sense for that aspect of this to be deemed "plot device". I'm not so sure about the fade-out effect. It seem's like the ability to make your body vanish without a trace upon dying would be fairly valuable. I'm really wondering why Qui Gon didn't get to fade away. He was a good jedi.
  9. Re: Marvel Comic's "Secret Wars 2" I notice Fury leans heavily towards hand to hand combat types. no mentalists, shape shifters, illusionists or energy projectors. Not even a flying character. Sloppy team building. I smell popularity contest. (lets get all the best selling marvel characters and make a temporary team out of 'em!)
  10. Re: Name for villain? Was the Viper agent African? I pulled up some swahili words Mbu - mosquito Damu - blood gonjwa - sick
  11. Re: Help with a character name Call him Don Pequeno (Lord Small) the 'n' has the ~ over it. 15 Dependence: Spendthrift (must spend money at least once per hour or suffer Incompetence) (Very Common, Addiction) 35 DNPC: Current Batch of Girlfriends (11-, Incompetent, Unaware of Characters Villian ID, Four at any given time)
  12. How do we write up the jedi ability to be absorbed by the force on death? Extra dimensional movement? What about becoming a force-spirit on dying? Resurrection? Multiform? "They may take our lives, but they'll never find our bodies!" - If Braveheart had been a Jedi.
  13. Re: How To: the Photon Tube With regard to x-rays . . . unless the tube is "Active Sensing" (not passive) the tube would have to rely on ambient x-ray radiation, and there's not a lot of that at ground level (thank providence). If you're eyes were to shift to the x-ray region, the world would be very dark. Even the sun would look pretty dim, compared to what it is now. You'd need to add penalty perception modifiers to see in the x-ray darkness. *edit* a little side note here about what you might get with discriminatory and analyze. doppler effects: know how fast something is moving towards you or away from you by noticing the the red or blue shift. absolute range might be simulated this way Absolute thermometer (know exactly how warm somthing is) be able to say, in rads, how much gamma radiation something is giving off.
  14. Re: Ultimate Hibernation Are you putting on 20 pts on each of those defenses? Because that's a lot of points. I might put a very weak costs end on this power. Say, costs 1 end every year, and no recovery. Lets see, that wouldn't actually be limiting (meaning its a -0 limitation), but it would be a good 'flavor' limitation. You might think about a -1/2 limit on the simulate death: can't stop of own volition. Kind of like no concious control. The character would have to be revived. On second thought, I wouldn't do this as life support. Do it as a suicide (I'd just fiat this as a 5 or 10 point power, since I have no idea how to write it up), and attach a resurection. The character will 'resurrect' when living conditions are acceptable. Ressurection is prevented by seriously damaging the body. The mummified body wouldn't be vulnerable to cold, heat, radiation within the bounds you presented.
  15. Re: Answers & Questions Q) Whats a good way to rewrite ipdiskits "Pit ID: KISS"? (is that even a word?) A) If this won't make them name me their cheiftan, nothing will.
  16. Re: Interesting team idea Interesting. Would this be more of a comedic campaign? It's a little difficult to incorporate all the different genres like this. Next to the gim iron age character, the golden and silver age guys would just look silly and happy-go-lucky.
  17. Re: Old Hero gamer looking for a GM harrumph. I was about to recomend the player finder, but then I saw that you've already posted there. I did notice confusinator posted this: http://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=11002&highlight=virginia Is richmond too far from Harrisonburg? I really don't know the eastern states well.
  18. Re: Answers & Questions Q) They fed the mime syrup of epicac? What did he do? A) This calls for a shotgun wedding!
  19. Re: Answers & Questions Q) I'm off to the store! Have you prepared the list of items necessary to summon Steve Longs new Succubus yet? A) Only if it's less sharp than an elbow.
  20. Re: Martial Cringe Martial Presence?
  21. No, literally. I want to see if herodom assembled can make a writeup of a yawn. Think about it. Yawns are the most contagious thing around. You can make someone else yawn just my letting them watch you yawn. You can make them yawn just by talking about yawning. I bet some of you are yawning right now! http://science.howstuffworks.com/question572.htm
  22. Re: Martial Cringe I'm liking the idea of martial cringe, and martial PRE attacks in general. Actually, the first thing that came to mind was the guys in the civil rights movement who just took beatings without resisting, and in so doing forced into action the concience of the onlookers. A martial art move that could affect crowds. Cool. It needs a better name than 'Martial Cringe', though.
  23. Re: Memory And Flash? Good Stuff, Farkling! I wonder if I can flash someones sense of decency?
  24. Re: Massive engineering projects? I read about a city in south america that has smog problems, because they're in a valley, so the wind won't blow it away. They are proposing blasting a channel through the mountains to make a biiiiig crossbreeze. How nifty is that?
  25. Re: Sword of Omens come to (cough, cough) sorry hairball Don't forget the infamous 'singing sword'. The sword in 'the black cauldron' knew how to fight, so all you had to do was hold on to the hilt. Lightning throwing swords are always cool. how about that dagger from 'the shadow', which would serve whoever had the strongest will. One sword I'd like to see written up is a legendary cutlass that, if its bearer died while wealding it, would continue fighting until that opponent had died! (or it broke, i guess)
