  1. Re: Monarch Butterfly Somebody's been watching the Venture Brothers. Now don't forget to wipe twice. Oh, and I like the Life Support: Ravagers idea.
  2. Re: Images or Shapeshift? That reliability is a key factor. How believable is the hologram? could it have a digital 'fake' look to it?
  3. If I'm wearing some armor, and I shape shift, does the armor shift to match? What if it's not just a human to human shift? If I turn into a horse can it turn into barding? What about related odds and ends? If I wear a backpack and turn into a dog, does the pack change into a pack a canine could wear? Or would these things require a cosmetic transform?
  4. Re: Weirdest Hero question yet Not too long ago, I saw a supplement in the local store for "Naughty and Dice", a supplement intended to be adaptable to most gaming systems (yeah, right), which covered the introduction of a "Sexuality" Stat, various skills, diseases, etc.
  5. Re: Jovian Chronicles HERO I have a slew of JC books, but I've never had a chance to play it! I liked the setting though. I had some conversions, but they're far away, on my PC at school. I can recomend the Ultimate Vehicle sourcebook. It has a small section on Giant Robot Vehicles, and another on Starcraft. It wouldn't be too difficult to emulate the things in the game with HERO rules. The main conversion problem I see would be with converting skill and attack rolls. The two systems just work so differently!
  6. Re: A Bathroom On bedrooms: I call 'em penalty skill level based labs for sleeping, since I could see requiring a character to make a roll to fall asleep, and rest well, on lumpy hard floors. (I don't require them, but I could see it being done) It makes them great if you're under an insomnia curse. Who's more powerful, the witch, or an advanced spring suspension system?
  7. Re: A Bathroom I think adding bathrooms is great. (I agree with the PS: Hygene lab, btw). Now, that's Everybase equipment, usually. I might force a character to buy it for transportable bases like tents, but probably not. But what if they wanted one in the Superjet or RV? That would cost points. Why add in the bathrooms? Because Hero System is meant to simulate action-oriented movies, television, comics, novels etc. Oh, I can't think of any times brushing his teeth has come up in the story, but the check-each-stall-for-where-he's-hiding is stapel! Remeber the classic "Who Does Number Two Work for?" Scene in Austin powers? The exampels are even more extensive when you get into shower scenes. It's huge fun to surprise your hero's with ninja's when they don't even have their towel on yet!
  8. Re: Did anyone else... I wasn't as taken aback by the low waistline as I was by her intriguing top. yawza! gotta get that hot chick at work to try on one of those . . . I did roll my eye's when I noticed that "Chaos Magic" isn't in red. See it? Right between Black Magic and Monster Magic? Lack of conformity in formating is almost as bad as a typo, and having it happen on the cover! Just shameful. I don't mind it so much if it's a once in a while thing in the text, but the cover is what sells the product (some of the time, if the person is kinda stupid). Still, nice cover art. Gotta get one of those tops for the hot chicks . . .
  9. Re: What cities could Batman call home? Why not try a nice east asian city? Tokyo, perhaps? It has skyscrapers and such. Of course, traffic congestion would be a problem . . . but then that's everywhere
  10. Re: Your Favorite "Analyze"? With regard to resisting an "Analyze", I sometimes allow the use of acting. The monk tries to change how his style looks, for example. This goes rather well as a variation of the Resistance Talent. Just 1 point per level! *EDIT*However, I wouldn't let a Character with Distinctive Features (Martial Arts Style) Buy Resistance to Analyze Style.
  11. Re: Doulocracy: how's it work? It could also mean that, if you're displeased with his policies, you can have your representative whipped.
  12. I was shooting through my copy of Fantasy Hero again, and noticed the term Doulocracy on page 320, listed as a form of government. It means, according to the book, Government by Slaves. How would such a government system work? Why wouldn't the first bill passed be "We're free, We're free"? Could it maybe be a little like Ancient China, with its Eunuch Beurocrats? I really am curious about this. Any thoughts?
  13. I love the skill Analyze. It's as flexible as a knowledge or proffesion skill, and generally more handy. Now, the Bestiary described "Analyze Animal", and UMA went into detail on "Analyze Style". I thought I'd start a thread to show off the different variations we've all come up with. Just say what your "Analyze" analyzes, and what results it gives. I'll start with with one I made for my wolf character. Of course, the hierarchy of the wolf's pack is usually one of it's chief concerns. Consequently, he developed this Analyze Hierarchy Makes Roll By Information Gained 0 (Exactly) Identify the main leader of the group being observed. 1 or 2A good feel for the reletive ranks of each member of the group, who reports to who, and other such organizational details.3 or 4How does the organization "really work". Which courtier secretly has the ear of the king, for example, or which guard would be the easiest to bribe. It also reveals the myriad rivalries, romances, and political manuverings that exist within the groupHalf or BetterGain a bonus on all interaction skills with members of the group (you really know what makes them tick)
  14. Re: Spidey powers It gets even trickier if you go by the comic books. The guy made everything out of his webbing. When he fought the Torch, he formed a baseball bat out of webbing to deflect fireballs (Missile reflection and a HA). When he had to run through a burning building, he used a spray of webbing to extinguish some of the fire (dispell fire based powers). He gooped up his hands with it to insulate himself so he could grab powerlines (Forcefield, limited coverage). He even made a hang glider at one point (gliding). It probably works out to a good power skill, since each of these things only happened once or twice.
  15. Re: [eBay] 4th Edition HERO, Rifts and other RPGs Like New I don't bother buying 4th ed books.
  16. Using the Long Term Endurance rules, can we still substitute Stun for Endurance? Meaning, can I use LTS when my LTE runs dry?
  17. Re: Labs! for every occasion Contortionist Lab: Door is 2' by 3', the room is full of tunnels and such. Mimicry: Sound system with database of a few thousand different sounds and voice types. Critiques your reproductions.
  18. Re: Your rules for sleeping? I notice the effects of sleeplesness are similar to those for being inebriated. Maybe I'll use those modifiers too.
  19. Re: Your rules for sleeping? I was considering ego rolls to stay awake. The other penalties are a good idea too.
  20. Re: Your rules for sleeping? I do not know these rules. *evil*Feel like sharing?*evil*
  21. I was looking throught the book, and noticed that it listed the effects of not eating and not drinking, but not the effects of not sleeping. (I'm still mystified by how cheap "LS: does not sleep" is) What are your rules? Do you have rules for the effects of not sleeping well?
  22. Re: Is Hebrew similar to German I just found it odd that German wasn't listed as being all that similar to Dutch
  23. Re: Enhanced Perception vs. Telescopic Why pay points for it? Long term Pre attacks. I'll use it for unnerving human camps. Every night, the campers will hear my long, mournful wail, and experience my Pre attack. Oh, they'll be brave at first, but over weeks of having me pick off the loners and then hearning me again and again, they'll be out of their minds! But if they can't hear me, my Pre does nothing. Sissy human ears only get an 11-, so they need a little help. Page 229 says that Voice has sense-like qualities, so you could consider it a sense. I don't know how well I can use FX. A megaphone (according to FREd) is +4, So it'd still be tricky to hear from any real range. And wolves aren't as loud as megaphones. I'm not sure why their call carries so far. I'm not too sure of using Images. Isn't that more for things that aren't real? Because there really is a wolf, and he really is baying. Still, 5 point non-targeting plus megascale 1km and set effect works out to 3 points . . . Might be worth it!
  24. Re: Enhanced Perception vs. Telescopic Yes, I know how telescopic differs from enhanced perception. I also know that telscopic for sense groups is 3 points for two, while enhanced is 4 points for two. However, for a single sense Telescopic is 1 point for +1, and enhanced perception is 1 point for +1. While telescopic is cheaper than enhanced perception (which makes sense) when bought for a group, it costs exactly the same when its for a single sense. I'm considering hand waving telescopic (single sense, not sense group) to be +4 for 3 points, so that it is still cheaper than enhanced Per *sigh* I was just trying to make a 'baying' power for a wolf by adding telescopic to the vocal sense group, such that there would be no Per modifiers to hear it for a long way's away. Turns out, that's expensive as all get out. (14 points for no Per modifiers up to a half mile)
  25. Re: Classic Traveller Sale on ebay Dude, I was about to welcome you to the boards, but, um, this is spammish
