Sorry about the slight ugliness in the writeup. I dropped the Champions-specific material, and streamlined some stuff ( namely, I turned the weapons into a multipower ).

Now, the writeup is only partly done. Specifically, he's updated to 5th Edition rules, but he still needs some "finishing." Specifically, powers, abilities, skills, etc, that he should have, but doesn't yet.

My initial ideas:

-At least 3/3 Combat Luck, maybe 6/6. The first is all but certain; Combat Luck was made with Seeker in mind.

-Another extra Martial Arts DC: Because I find it morally offensive for Nighthawk to be better at martial arts in any way, shape, or form. :-)

-Missile Deflection: At least to the "arrow-catching" level. Fits the character.

Any others?? Any thoughts on the rest of the writeup??

Okay. I can understand gaining a point of speed through training and meditation on the meaning of action, or whatever mumbo-jumbo you want to trot out. But gaining in Dex? Probably nopt something you can gain through diet, excercise, and whatever. At least not 9 active points of it. Better to build it through the (more expensive) combat skill levels + lightning reflexes construct, to show extensive training.

You might even buy +1 SPD, Costs END (-1/2) in order to demonstrate it's something metaphysical and not strictly natural, costs Chi energy expenditure, whatever.

I think in some respects they're using Shugoshin (ex-Yakuza goon turned heroic swordsman) as the replacement Martial Artist archetype, given that he's been on both covers of The Ultimate Martial Artist, and fits the conception (unarmored fighter, mix of Japanese and Western influences) about as well.

Well, the new official guidelines for the limits of human potential are DEX 30, SPD 7; these are maximums for what normal humans can achieve through training and innate ability. Beyond that you're "superhuman" and are expected to have some paranormal rationale for your extraordinary stats. Seeker's Characteristics are significantly below max in most other areas, though, especially the non-physical ones.

Having Watchers of the Dragon I'd have to say that there would be very little needed to update Seeker's writeup from that book for 5E - the changes between editions are minimal as they affect this character.

Not to mention adventuring without a shirt. :P

Shugoshin is also on the cover of the new Ninja HERO, and he's given a 5E writeup in Champions Universe. Personally I think he keeps making covers because his dragon tattoo and twin swords just look cool. ;)

IIRC Steve Long once remarked that Shugoshin was originally just an unnamed character on the cover of 4E UMA, and later given a character sheet and background. Much like what happened to Foxbat.

Evidently, Ninjitsu teaches you to run 52.5 MPH.

Sometimes, I write up high SPD characters who aren't supposed to be speedsters with lowered movement rates or with extra movement that only bumps their half moves so that they have good tactical mobility without being able to outrun horses.

Either that or extra movement that doesn't bump NCM.

That does stretch credulity a bit, doesn't it? For my part I've given such characters an Infrequent, Slightly Impairing Physical Limitation: "Can't Run at Noncombat Speed."

You can actually justify this is psuedo-martial art mumbo jumbo. Their higher SPD is a function of moving at "true speed", and as such they're already using up the "extra" movement NCM would give them...

This may be off the topic slightly, but does anyone know why Seeker was left out of 5th ed? Is he going to get put back in somewhere?

Just curious...

I believe, he has been reduced to a comic book character replacing Nighthawk in a Champions franchised comic book. I think they could bring him back without contradicting this by having him come from an alternate Earth.:D

As I understand it, Seeker was left out because Steve Long didn't care for the character. As the Line Developer it's certainly his right and responsibility to decide which older characters are appropriate to update to the "new" CU.

Since Seeker never existed in the current CU timeline it's not inconceivable that a revised version of the character might make an appearance in future, but AFAIK Steve has no plans for it, and all things considered I wouldn't hold my breath. ;)

Thanks guys. Figured it was something like that. FYI in my game I had him killed at the Battle of Detroit. He died fighting by the side of Bill Harmon aka Defender; son of James Harmon the original Defender—the game takes place 20 years In the future. Bill is now a Senator gearing up for a run at the White House. His deep dark secret (among others) is he is haunted by the memory (ghost?) of Seeker. Anyway long story short these stats will help me for my game this weekend. I was really just curious if there was an official work on him that I had not heard…

Shugoshin, Japanese backround? HA!! Even W/those Giam (Jian), two chinese swords. The level of Confused asian sources in the Hero Martial arts book's characters kills me.

and you would be mistaken that we were confused. I was the one responsible for the original UMA cover and subsequent images of Shugoshin. It was decided early on to have a figure who could represent several facets of martial artsdom visually. Yes, he has Jians...but he is 1/2 Japanese, 1/2 Chinese. The look and background was quite purposeful, I assure you. He is a bridge between several worlds... whether you think that is ridiculous or not, remains to be seen.

I don't have a problem W/it, in a way that makes me angree or turns me off. I actually "bother" me, I still love the art and books. I've no doubt that you and the creators of these characters (I don't own champions which is where Shugoshin's write up is if I'm not mistaken).

Truth is the only picture I can think that was a real blending of styles was the pic of the Chinese warrion on the cover of Ninja Hero (W/the 3-section Staff) who later appears in what looks like full chinese garb, wielding Katana. now that I look at it again she is standing between the Chinese and Japanese view points....SO MAYBE I WAS TALKING OUT OF ME ASS, IN MY LAST POST...whats your point. :P

When you say 1/2 Japanese and 1/2 Chinese, Storn, do you mean just in his visual motifs? His CU background writeup says Kenji Hayashida's father was an American serviceman, and he's described as having "mixed Japanese and Western features."

Did you read anything about the character? Are you aware of the familiarity China and Japan share with one another? Are you aware of the historical influence of China on Japan?

Never mind. Old post waiting for send command.
