Blue
Here's a challenge for you... Create the greatest superhero game soundtrack of all time! (Just wanted my 50th post to be a new thread! Yeah! I'm no longer standard, I think.)
Starlord
A combination of the soundtracks of: Superman I The Imperial March in Empire Strikes Back The beginning of Conan the Barbarian Raiders of the Lost Ark The end of Braveheart Terminator Background music in Predator Queen's We Will Rock You/We are the Champions Carl Orff's Carmina Burana For a little comedy you can play the theme to the 60's Batman. For a little horror play the main theme's to Halloween or John Carpenter's The Thing.
Hermit
a few more suggestions Hope I can remember the names of titles and artists right... "Princes of the Universe"- By Queen "Kiss from the Rose" (?) by SEAL for romantic ones "Dare to be Stupid" by Weird Al (Great for Foxbat or groups with no tactics)
Tech
Been there, done that. Created a 2 disc CD for my Champions game with themes for each hero character as well as some for certain villains, such as Firewing and Dr. Destroyer
Starcorp Man
Powerman 5K - Drop the Bombshell, When World's Collide, others. Slip Knot: My Plague Drowning Pool: Bodies Joe Bean Esposito: You're the Best Daredevil Soundtrack Black Sabbath: Mob Rules I have like 3 gigs of MP3's just for gaming music, from Sound Effects, Romantic, Action, Mystery, Horror. Blue
The Conan S/T by Basil Polidorous The Good, The Bad, and the Ugly S/T by Ennio Marricone The Superman S/T by John Williams Any of the LoTR soundtracks by Howard Shore (Excluding that crappy song by Bjork from the 2nd movie)
Patriot
Why use someone elses? We have made our own sound track, 3 disks Plus we sat down and thougth about a Put together a sound track , if we had a movie. Theme song is the last line on our character development

Most of these are contained within one album. "The Boston Pops in Space" contains the Boston Pops performing the themes from "Superman", "Star Wars", and "Raiders of the Lost Ark". I just put it on and hit 'repeat.' In general, I prefer the gaming music to have no lyrics as they are a distraction to me. I'm one of those annoying people who pays attention to each and every lyric. Comes from years of listening to Peter Gabriel, I guess. Evil Steve
Add in Hold me, Thrill me, Kiss me, Kill me by U2 The Planets By Holst (especially Mars) Gladiator Soundtrack Selected tracks from the Mortal Kombat CDs are good too, but entirely dependant on what sort of party you have

Hermit
"Ride of the Valkries" by Wagner and other Classical bits can be nice as well for background. The organ music from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Phantom of the Opera is good for villain Intros

zornwil
Well, I'll just go for what I'd like best for my campaign, this is off the top of my head: for tense, mystery, or suspenseful scenes: some Curve a little bit of Moby Ni Ten Ichi Ryu (did Two Swords Technique) for those more tranquil as well as more emotional moments at the base lots of Yo La Tengo for the really emotionally intense scenes some Mission of Burma snippets some Roni Size/Represent some Tricky for the more comedic and light-hearted scenes some Cornelius for the fight scenes some Chemical Brothers bits of Nine Inch Nails some Damned for scenes specific to our robotic hero Neumann Krafterk from the Radio Activity album lots of Raymond Scott's music for toddlers mixed with a little Spike Jones only subtly put in some Depeche Mode some Morton Subotnik for scenes specific to our super-scientist/mage Troll lots of Throbbing Gristle a little Danny Elfman (from his soundtracks) for scenes specific to our world's-greatest-detective who shifts into strange elemental/chemical shapes sometimes inscrutable dead silence (even the incidental sounds disappear) some Edgar Varese some Japanese noise music a la Mosada for scenes specific to our mentalist with an inner voice Miles Davis Ornette Coleman some of that guy who did "Sleep Tonight" for scenes specific to our shape-shifting child-like mimicry artist lots of Elvis Presley (he specializes in imitating him) They Might Be Giants' music for children for scenes specific to our newest member, the woman of steel (literally), I'll have to see her more in play, but at least for her intro a little Metal Machine Music but moreso maybe Devo? zakueins
There's a lot of good anime soundtracks that'll be great for a Superheroic game. http://www.jameswong.com/ykproject/core.html Yoko Kanno does some of my most favorites, including Cowboy Bebop (my MA in one game was named Spike, had a Pickpocketing skill of 21-.... There's a story about when he stole the Campaign Master Villan's Superweapon key that's worth two beers at a con.) Ghost in the Shell (the movie) is great for a Miami-Vice type of vibe in music. Speaking of Miami Vice, Jan Hammer's music for Miami Vice (especially the two soundtracks and Escape from Television) are spot-on for any '80s game. Also, the GTA 3:Vice City soundtracks (which are a cool compliation of about 1/3rd of my favorite '80s music and bands).
AndyM
Some more stuff that (I don't think) has been mentioned. We Can Be Heroes, The Wallflowers - from the Godzilla s/t Black Hawk Down (s/t) The Hunted (s/t) Kodo drums and all Metallica S&M The Usual Suspects (s/t) (great for mystery stuff) Peter Gabriel's Passion (great for desert, mystery stuff) Peter Gabriel's Rabbit Proof Fences Training Day (s/t) good urban stuff Vangelis, Mythodea The Eagles, In the City >> There's a John Williams fanfare collection that features: Duel of the Fates, the Atlanta Olympic theme, Indiana Jones theme, Star Wars title and a bunch of other stuff. I cannot recommend that enough. Great stuff. That's some of the stuff I listen to while preping for games and (when there's music available at the game) would like to listen to. MisterBaldy
THE BEST SUPERHERO SOUNDTRACK... For me, I'd have to say that there are only two soundtracks that did anything for me...as far as "Superhero Movies" goes. 1) The Batman soundtrack (Prince showed his genius when he created that one) 2) The Spiderman soundtrack There's a lot of great choices to play "mix & match" with, by why bother...I really think that those are two of the best out there, as far as Superhero Movies go. I've gamed to Surfing, and on these boards I count as a young 'un (24). I think most of my suggestions are already up, but a special mention has to go to 'Jimmy Olsen Blues' by the Spin Doctors. I used this track to start every session of my last Champions game - it helped set the mood .
