Michael Hopcroft
Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Walt Disney's Ring of the Nibelung They would have to find other music -- Wagner carries a lot of baggage in many parts of the world even today. And Fritz Lang's film Siegfried, which covers many of the events in the Ring cycle, is frequently cited as one of Hitler's favorite movies. Made about eight years before he came to power, it was one reason Goebbels wanted Lang to head the film department of the new Propaganda Ministry -- an offer which prompted Lang to flee Germany, never to return. Well, considering the story is rife with incest, murder, and betrayal (for starters), it's not exactly family-oriented to begin with, which is why I doubt Disney would even touch it. But let's not forget the title of this thread. Edit: Watching the Ring Cycle on PBS made me want to start a campaign based on Norse or Germanic mythology. How is that different from any other fairy tale he would just "Disney-fy" it.
