Michael Hopcroft
Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster I don't know about that. Anime/manga has an entire genre of slice-of-life stories with little plot other than the rites of passage of ordinary life. Kiyohiko Azuma is a manga writer who has mastered the art: in Yostuba&! he's managed to unfold a manga series for several years about a five-year-old simply being five years old and continually encountering new things that seem ordinary to us -- but are anything but to her. No overweening plot arc. No existential angst. Nothing the least bit supernatural or adventurous. And pure genius.

Querysphinx
Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster Meh. There's really only one plot. Somebody wants something and is prevented from getting it. When that incongruity is eliminated, the plot ends.
Michael Hopcroft
Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster She's been five years old for several years...and nothing supernatural about it It's been going at the rate of one day story time per monthly appearance of the manga. Each tonkuban takes up about a week of Yotsuba time.

Michael Hopcroft
Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster Each chapter of the story covers one day. A new chapter is released monthly. A year's worth of "issues" equals twelve days in the life of Yotsuba Koiwai. Clear?

Logan D. Hurricanes
Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster One of my favorite mythology stories is Thor challenging Jesus to combat. You don't read about many pantheon crossovers from the old times.
Escafarc
Re: Make Your Own Motivational Poster [h=2]The Challenge of Thor[/h][h=3]Henry Wadsworth Longfellow[/h] I AM the God Thor, I am the War God, I am the Thunderer! Here in my Northland, My fastness and fortress, Reign I forever! Here amid icebergs Rule I the nations; This is my hammer, Miölner the mighty; Giants and sorcerers Cannot withstand it! These are the gauntlets Wherewith I wield it, And hurl it afar off; This is my girdle; Whenever I brace it, Strength is redoubled! The light thou beholdest Stream through the heavens, In flashes of crimson, Is but my red beard Blown by the night-wind, Affrighting the nations! Jove is my brother; Mine eyes are the lightning; The wheels of my chariot Roll in the thunder, The blows of my hammer Ring in the earthquake! Force rules the world still, Has ruled it, shall rule it; Meekness is weakness, Strength is triumphant, Over the whole earth Still is it Thor's-Day! Thou art a God too, O Galilean! And thus singled-handed Unto the combat, Gauntlet or Gospel, Here I defy thee!

Since I work with so many Japanese, I tend to get a fair amount of help, but it tends to be very business-centric and of course time constraints and getting work done interfere as well, so The Rose may prove to be a useful asset.
