Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

A blast from the past (late 1980s):

Season 1 of Sledge Hammer

"Trust me - I know what I'm doing" :eg:

One of my work colleagues bought both seasons for me on DVD - Season 2 will be all-new to me because I do not believe that it was ever shown over here in the UK (and Season 1 was aired at the "viewer-friendly" time of 03.20, so I managed to catch some but not all of them)

The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford

I once worked for a MSgt with the last name of James. Turns out he was a descendant of Jesse James. After talking awhile we figured out that Bob Ford may have been one of my ancestors. Both of us thought that was kind of cool, if true.

Tried to watch a BBC program called The Truth About Online Anorexia, but had to stop watching after the first five minutes -- the images of self-starving teens were too disturbing for me. If you've the stomach for it, just google Pro Ana. Note that the provided google search page contains links which lead to disturbing images that may not be worksafe.

Saw a whole bunch of Ancient Discoveries episodes on the History Channel. One item that caught my imagination was Chinese laminated paper scale armor that could stop a crossbow bolt from penetrating through to the wearer. To demonstrate the technology, they made a chestplate from thick, overlapping scales of folded (many thicknesses), varnished paper. The scales appeared to be about ¼ inch thick, 2 inches wide, and 3 inches long, and they were arranged so that every part of the armor consisted of three overlapping scales. They fired bolts from point blank rangefrom a replica of a contemporary chinese crossbow, and although the bolts would stick (they pierced the first two layers) the third layer prevented penetration.

Various episodes of Battlestar Galactica Season 2 and Season 3.

And The Zodiac about the killer terrorising the San Francisco area in the late 60s and early 70s. Now Dirty Harry makes a lot more sense as does the reaction of he detective investigating who had to walk out during a SFPD screening.

Chocolate: A thai martial arts movie from the guy who made Ong Bak. Highly recommended if you like martial arts movies.

Also just finished a Battlestar Galactica marathon, including all four seasons, Razor and The Plan. The Plan wasn't quite so good. Also watched the pilot for Caprica.

Let's see, other movies:

Adventureland: Not bad, though not very funny. I didn't see it as a comedy.

The Hangover: I can't believe this got the ratings it did.

Coraline: Pretty decent. Creepy. The extras were very cool, showing the HUGE amount of work that went into the animation.

Terminator: Salvation: Crap on toast. Crap on gray, featureless toast.

Julie and Julia: OK, but not much plot. Amy Adams still cute with short hair, so watchable. =)

I think one more movie, but since I can't remember it must not have been that good.

We've been breaking in our new TV and Blu Ray player. Just went HD and caught up with the 21st century.

Re: What Have You Watched Recently?

I bought the shorts that were Rifftraxed at the recent live event. well, the ones that are available.

I liked Julie and Julia a lot.

The Goods was funny in a kinda stupid kinda way. Its a turn your brain off kinda comedy. But it has some great moments

I got a bootleg copy of Mike Nesmiths Elephant parts. Its pushing 30 years and its still pretty good.
