Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Miriam Donne Used to be known as "Legs" in her youth, when she worked the tap dance circuit. She sure was some hoofer. But she never hit the big time, and settled for a decent married life in the suburbs. Decades passed, and her kids left home, and Mr. Donne passed away. The arthritis and lumbago slowed her down, and there was talk of putting Miriam in a home. But then a package arrived "from an admirer", containing fishnet stockings much as she'd worn in her long-ago career. Miriam tried them on as a lark, but then discovered that while she wears the fishnets, her youthful vigor and pain-free movement return.

Further, she's able to run at great speeds, her kicks do steel-bending damage, and Legs can jump three stories up from a standing start. Miriam's learning capoeira to become even more effective in combat.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

"Liz! We're on in five!"

Elizabeth Stephens finished putting on her makeup before starting to put on her stockings. The Amazing Mystico insisted that his "beautiful assistant" dress the part, and that included those dreaded fishnet stockings. She hated the way they looked, but the worst part was the way they itched! It wasn't like Mystico was all that great as a stage magician, but Liz needed the job to support her family ever since her hubby lost his job at the ad agency.

That was probably why they were the very last thing she put on, and the very first thing she took off. And it likely explains why she was in such a hurry that day, that she accidentally put her toe through the seam, ripping a 4" long hole in them.

Cursing her mistake, she was about to throw on a pair of normal nylons when there was a knock at the door. Standing there was an elderly woman she'd never seen before. "You'll need these," the woman said, and handed Liz a pair of silky fishnet stockings.

"Th... thanks," she said, not sure how the woman had known of her predicament. Perhaps she heard me cursing through the door, Liz thought as she slipped on the stockings. Unlike her old pair, these were comfortable and hugged her legs like a lover. They even sparkled a little in the stage lights -- probably some glitter -- as she stepped onto stage.

The first clue that something was different was when Mystico went to pull that smelly rabbit from his hat. Instead, a dozen rabbits hopped out, followed by three frogs and a dove. And then, the "amazing rings" trick. Not only couldn't Mystico pull the large metal rings apart -- every time he pulled, another ring appeared, until he finally had several dozen rings hanging there. But the biggest clue was when Liz stepped into the "vanishing cabinet" and appeared in her own home.

It didn't take long for her to realize that the stockings were the cause. With a little concentration (and sometimes a tap to her nose), Liz could perform acts of true magic -- making objects appear, causing things to float in midair, or even alter reality in small but significant ways. At first she tried to make a name (and some money) for herself on stage. But with her new powers came a surprising sense of responsiblity. It seemed everywhere she turned, she heard or read or saw news of various crimes and social ills. So she took her "act" to the streets, calling herself the Bewitcher. Eventually she fell in with the other Fishnet Five, and though she isn't exactly overjoyed with her teammates, Bewitcher sees them as useful allies in her quest to make this world a better place for her daughter and son.

Edit: new team to follow in a few minutes.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Little is known about the man of mystery called The Night Rider. Clad in black leather, armed with souped-up gadgets and riding a hyper-intelligent talking black stallion named Kit (after Kit Carson, he claims), The Night Rider swoops in from shadows to save the day in the nick of time and rides off into the sunset when evil is defeated. The media thinks Kit is some form of robot as well.

Kit isn't a robot, Kit is a Kelpie. He's paying off a debt to Night Rider, but the cost of that debt also involves NR's missing memory. Should NR figure who & what he (Night Rider) really is, Kit will be free. Given that Kit wasn't too happy about being wrangled into service in the first place, this might be problematic. See, the Unseelie Court isn't too keen on the Sidhe willingly helping mortals...

I'll see you one Glen Larson show with another.

From out of the depths of space descends Battle Star Galactica. She has been assigned to defend Earth from extraterrestial menaces by her agency, the Battle Stars. With her regulation power armor, and natural gadget making telekinetics, she has shown herself a force to be recognized

One good Bellisario deserves another.

The investigative specialist of Prime Time is Thomas ".357" Magnus, a handsome, self-assured, sometimes impulsive man. A US Navy veteran, he has a good eye and a quick mind, and a quicker hand with a gun. He is fairly well connected, with a contact in the local mob as well as a friend who is a pilot and sometimes assists Thomas in his cases.

We still need a sixth actually...

Avon Blake was once a selfish, amoral coward -- at least until the radiation accident. Then, he found out he had the power to replicate himself into seven copies. Calling himself Blake's Seven, he can provide extra muscle/scouting/hands as needed. Unfortunately for him, one of his copies is still a selfish, amoral coward -- and is trying to gain control of the other six.

New Team: Union Underground

Number: 6

Motive: The Union Underground are made up of former minions, lackeys and henchmen of the Create a Villain Team. Lines were crossed, consciences were found, risks to life, liberty and/or loved ones were finally realized. The UU keeps a low profile, trying to help other former minions and lackeys into following the straight & narrow. The other reason why they keep a low profile is due to the fact some haven't legitimately paid their dues to society (ie surrendered to proper authorities). Likewise, after the Powerfist/Nighthawk incident, some vigilantes don't WANT to believe the members of the UU are honest and are waiting to pounce. The UU have worked at times with both Second Chances and the Redeemers.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

PureBlood journal entry...

Today was a really good day; I got to take away Incarnadine's blade, toss it in the river, then kick her in the face. It's always good to go up against my former "big sibs" in the Sisters of Blood and stop one of their demonic plots. Sure, as a former agent there's not much I can do against real supers like Lady Nothing or The Shade, but I can still hand Sister Superior and Incarnadine their hats. And if I ever get my hands on Nightmare… yeah, I have special plans for her.

I'm still getting some hassles from the so-called "good guys," but that's not going to make me change my mind. Any time my convictions waver, I close my eyes and see my niece Katie's face when the Sisters and I charged into that school. In retrospect, maybe I shouldn't have gone public with my change of heart. Still, my testimony helped put a bunch of nasty people behind bars, and I don't see how I could have done that without outing myself. So the cops and capes can believe me or not. No skin off my back either way.

Anyway, I got some new toys (and when you’re a fairly normal girl like me, you need all the toys you can get). Lightning Lad (a pal from the Redeemers) stopped by yesterday and replaced my trusty old nightstick with one that can zap my enemies, but only gave me the new one after I promised that I’ll turn Lady Nothing over to him if I ever capture her. But the best was when we worked with Second Chance this afternoon and Doctor Gremlin surprised me with a revamped battlesuit. This one uses the suit’s force projection for short-term flight as well as shielding others from harm. Using the projected shield does reduce my own protection, but I know from past experience that there are times it would have come in handy.

Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have to go see Katie. The hospital is pretty strict about visiting hours, and I already missed once this week. Dr. Cooper said most of the kids’ night terrors are diminishing, but Katie still refuses to talk about what happened that day. I’m hoping, maybe, she’ll open up to her favorite aunt. Wish me luck.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Paul Craven was just another office drone who found out that he was working for two of the most evil teams of individuals around, The Dream Stealers and The Corruption. At first he did not know what was involved or what was going on but he stumbled onto the truth and was sickened by it. Whistle blowing seemed like an option until Backer got Displacer to deal with someone else whose moral courage was greater than Paul's. Then the Crippler was let loose on them after six months in another identity. Paul even found out that The Corruption had a high up contact in the Government but not who it was.

It took Paul time but he eventually arranged things and 'died' in a fire which the Redeemers and Second Chances helped with.

Oddly they pointed out that Paul did not seem to be noticed by people so he became The Unknown. Paul has seen the true evil behind The Dream Stealers and The Corruption so he is more likely to be accepting of anyone trying to turn their life around.

He is also trying to track down and help those victims of Displacer who are still alive.

Dan Harding thought he was as tough on the inside as he was on the outside. He was the black sheep of the Harding family, always in trouble with the law for some callous petty crime or another. Dan was even less liked than his religious nut cousin, and was only at the family picnic because it was inside his parole area. When the empowering water hit him, Dan's skin turned diamond-tough, nigh-invulnerable and extremely painful to be hit by.

Rather than team up with his goody-goody relatives in the Hard Line, Dan cashed in on his newfound ability by selling his services to the underworld as a bodyguard/enforcer codenamed The Hard Man. He put up with the vulgar jokes, he was tough after all. Used to the ways of criminals, the Hard Man did his mercenary jobs with no qualms.

That is, until he was hired by the Dream Stealers. This was a depth of evil that the Hard Man had never truly realized existed--not motivated by greed or anger or lust, but by the simple delight of causing misery and suffering to others. Dan was made uncomfortably aware that he did, in fact, have a conscience, and it was telling him to get the hell out of Dodge.

Now the Hard Man is a member of the Union Underground, and working to atone for some of the horrible things he's done over the years. But every night he wakes from nightmares, for he knows that the Dream Stealers will eventually take horrific revenge for his betrayal.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Curtis Hammer was once one of the Talons, a nameless, faceless member of the mook brigade/shocktroop of the Vultures of Mars. As minion-work went, it wasn't too bad -- at least at first. And as tactical leaders went, Cavalier was a breath of fresh air, going out of his way to get to know and wok with Hammer and the other Talons as fellow comrades in arms and not as a looming, threatening Big Brother. Some of the other Vultures, however, weren't so friendly to the "dumb grunts". And then the war went underway. Curtis didn't even know why the Owls and Vultures were fighting in the first place. It wasn't black ops or world domination -- just sibling rivalry gone very, very wrong. Zealot, one of the so-called "good guys", refused to care about the collateral damage building up -- or the innocents that got hurt in pursuit of taking out her brother. Then throw in the psychotic Falcon From Wherever who wanted to kill both sides and Hammer was terrified he'd never get out alive. Something had to be done.

Of course, one of the horrible realities of collateral damage and being a faceless, nameless mook was just how easy it was to fake your own death. Hammer had already made his preparations and was able to get word out to the Underground about his plight. He felt some guilt about breaking away from Cavalier, but he had his fill of the pointless fighting between the Owls and Vultures. He wanted to do something worthwhile with his training however, make some amends. Modifying his Talon gear (a lightweight armored bodysuit with speed and stealth capabilities and non-toxic paralytic darts), Hammer now calls himself Black Wasp.

Hammer's "death" didn't go unnoticed. Cavalier is aware and intentionally looked the other way, even covering up the few tracks Hammer missed. In return, Curtis has reached out to his former leader, offering the UU's services if/when he wants to disappear as well. So far, Cavalier has declined as he fears without his guidance, the destruction between the Owls and Vultures will get much worse. Likewise, he worries that some of the Vultures might get suspicious should he vanish and he doesn't want to endanger the secrecy of the Union Underground. Worst still, he knows his sister Zealot would have no qualms at all tearing up and exposing the UU itself should she find out if it meant finally being able to kill her brother.

After the explosion Pete Charles had to admit he wasn't quite as good as he thought. Oh he was still a technical genius, but he was no supergenius. So after getting the hang of his new broken body, he set out to find work. He wasn't having any luck when work found him. O.k. his employer was a little strange, and his tendancy to call Peter Igor was very annoying. But Peter set to work rigging the house like a haunted house in a theme park. When he was done the employer hired Peter to build some other things. The dangerous weapons gave Peter a bit of a pause, but he built them anyway. After all what was a nut going to do with them in an adandoned house? Peter found out when he was asked to make six of a device and explain it's workings to the intended users. Peter practically passed out when he learned he had been building equipment for the Shadow Lords. Looking at the deadly individuals he was quite happy to be introduced as Igor. After that he knew he never wanted to go back, but he couldn't just walk away. Fortunatly he had heard about the Union Underground. Now as their resident gadget expert he spends his time designing implements of Juctice, and keeping a close eye on the shadows.

Next group

The Golden Legion

It was all so exciting. You. Yes you. Were chosen as one ofg the six lucky junior heroes to be mentored by the legendary Golden Gaurdian. Then you met him, and he dosen't live up to the hype. Vain, dense, selfshish, and lazy apparently his greatest superpower is the ability to be in the right place at the right time to take all the credit. If it weren't for the people, so excited to meet you cause you aide. Ha more like do all the work for THe Golden Gaurdian you'd walk away tomorrow.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Gold Goliath is Peter Smith. His powers manifested one day as a gang banger was going to shoot a friend. Peter wished he could do something and then found himself between the thug and his intended target only he was looking down on the thug. The thug shot him and the bullets bounced off but Peter missed him with a swipe and the thug and his colleagues beat it.

Peter thus made the headlines and was publicly identified. As such he was brought to the attention of the government and others and got put into the Golden Legion. The problems has is that he can't control when and how the power will activate and he can't seem to talk while in the power. He can understand. what people are saying. The other problem is he can't seem to hit effectively.

What does not bother him but has excited comment is that Gold Goliath is a golden skinned giant African American and he is an ordinary middle class Caucasian male. He can't mold the form, it just comes like that. The Guardian gave him some snide comments about it until the power spontaneously manifested and pinned him to a wall and just shook his head saying No.

Peter feels out of his depth and underconfident but the Goliath radiates strength, purpose and confidence. Peter has got to the point of quitting because he feels he does not belong and does not have control of his powers. However the others have convinced him to stay because of what he can do as his alter ego.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Stan Goldstein is a normal (non-powered) young man who always dreamed of being a superhero like his favorite hero, Golden Guardian. So Stan trained and studied until he reached the peak of his physical and mental abilities. He learned several martial arts styles, mastered various standard and unique weapons, and equipped himself with some body armor and various crimefighting gadgets. After nearly a year of practice, Stan (calling himself Gold Standard) finally felt he was "good enough" to be an apprentice to Golden Guardian. He is a founding member of the Golden Legion and thinks of himself as the group's leader (after Golden Guardian, of course), though many of the others would dispute that.

Time under the "mentorship" of GG has dulled a bit of the shine, though GS still makes excuses for his hero. Stan's repeated pleas to "give GG a chance" are the main reason why the Golden Legion hasn't yet disbanded or otherwise left Golden Guardian behind.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Claire Rogers aka Gold Leaf is a quiet, unassuming girl (she's only 12) with the ability to summon glowing gold TK force whips as a means of attack and entanglement. Out of all the team, Golden Guardian seems to give her the most grief, though whether it's due to her age, gender or power capabilities is uncertain. Gold Standard tries to blunt most of the criticism, but Claire just quietly takes it (which only encourages more verbal abuse from GG).

Gold Leaf is also packing an insane amount of mental defense -- as well as a lot of rage and one big secret. See, if she can utterly humiliate and destroy Golden Guardian (and by proxy the Golden Legion), she'll have earned membership into the Bad Seeds. All she's waiting for is the right opportunity. However, Stan is trying his best to get her to feel more comfortable with the team and sometimes she wavers. One more wrong and heartless move, word or action from GG, however, will send her over the edge and into the abyss without looking back -- and it may happen sooner rather than later.

Gold Nugget- Denzel Daniel Donaldson was born to be a superhero. His father was a hard working cop before his untimely demise, and his mother worked her butt off to give them a better life. His name was alliterative, for crying out loud, oh, and there was that weird ability he gained to shrink and shift his mass and density at smaller sizes. He'd always admired the Golden Guardian and was thrilled to be chosen for the team even if he was given a hero name he didn't much care for.

Oh how illusions can shatter.

Denzel (now Gold Nugget) soon discovered, as did the others, that GG is chiefly a sham. Gold Nugget knows now his boss is lazy, opportunistic, and mostly into the heroing thing for himself. To add insult to injury, the shrinking junior hero overheard the real reason he's been let on the team-Golden Guardian considers him 'the token black guy' and is merely using the boy to appeal to the politically correct demands of some segments of society.

Instead of quitting, Denzel has, for now decided to stick it out. The Golden Legion has stopped too many fires, helped too many people, saved too many lives for him to feel it right to just walk away because he KNOWS they work better together than apart. He may end up getting kicked out anyway at this rate, as the fifteen year old has grown increasingly defiant and rebellious towards their mentor, particularly in defense of others, and more open in his criticisms about GG in front of his team mates.

Ironically, rather than souring Denzel completely on being a superhero, this entire incident has made him more determined than ever to be one, with Golden Guardian as a shining example of the type of hero he DOESN'T want to be.

He's not very grateful for the lesson though

Denzel has, while shrunk, overheard a LOT from GG in fact, even a few confessions about what heroes REALLY did things their mentor takes credit for, the women he's lied to in order to get them in bed, etc... and while it hasn't occurred to him to think of this, if he were to go to a newspaper about this, it would be a 'tell all scoop' extraordinaire. His mother, however, is no fool, and starting to suspect her son isn't happy. If she knew what her son knew, she'd probably remove Denzel from the team and hit the talk shows denouncing the man as a fraud so he could never use people again. It's easy to see Denzel's sense of justice isn't just from his father.

Re: Create a Hero Theme Team!

Life is always interesting when you're the son of a fictional character made real. Auric Jotunbane is the scion of Graul Jotunbane, the lusty, rough and tumble, yet heroic pulp barbarian written by Caroline DeViers in the 1960's through the 1980's, under the assumed name of Carl Vores. Caroline's creation was brought to life in 1980's when she was kidnapped by 80's supervillain (and all around nutjob) Dreamweaver. A fan of the relentlessly macho Graul, Dreamweaver was outraged to find that the reclusive author was a woman. He kidnapped her and took her to one of his dreamscpae dimensions. Graul came to life and to his creator's aid and wisked Caroline away to one of the lands of legend. There she adventured for and regained her faded youth (she was 32 when her first novel was published) and married her dream-barbarian.

They returned to Earth proper on occasion, and eventually with their son in tow. Though he's only 15, Auric is the spit and image of his father. Braod shoulders hinting at the powerhouse he will grow to be, but now he's mostly gangly, albiet strong as an ox and swift as a cheetah. He was another of the Golden Guardian's "right place at right time" moments, aiding the Guardian and his trainees when the "Hero" had called a tatctical withdrawl (from the rear) and the boy (and his father) intervened. Auric was given the moniker Golden Swordsman, and joined up. He is eager to get his life of adventure started. (Now if he could just keep his parents from interfering)

Auric is a burgeoning superhuman, his physical attributes are all quite high and will soon push into "Legendary," he's a brilliant swordsman for his age (well trained and some experience), tough as a bull, and a brawler/wrestler without peer. His combination of physical ability, keen mind, and quasi mystical origin allow his unorthodox combat style to hold its own against warriors with better training and more structured styles.

Auric has found to his amusement and dismay that GG is a fraud. He worries about his fellow legionnaires because they're quite young. He's more worried his parents will find out and make him leave; he's enjoying this way too much. He finds the GG to be hilarious, and has little fear of the man. He only barely realizes the anger some of the others have. He has no trouble taunting his "mentor," but he does it good naturedly.

Edit:

New Team:

The Outsiders

Six members (max 8), the Outsiders are a group of superhumans (or not) who are Legacies of some sort who don't fit into their legacy somehow (I will give an example below).

Their "Outsider" lable is mostly self described, the public doesn't really get it.

Jirryn Gromson is an Aesir. Hailing from the realms of New Asgard his family have long been proud servants of king Modi Thorson. Jirryn is a bit of a befuddlement for his family though. Strong and hale like his people he was born with a gift for inventing. Indeed he can hold an object and sense how it is made, how it works, and what might improve it.

His march towards technology started simply enough, he built a compound bow..and then he found a crossbow - joy. On a journey to his lord's castle rode a rope and pully elevator and saw visions of gears...little things. He served at the castle, when it was revealed he could also instinctively learn and alter magical runes and spells. Then the Lords of Justice journeyed to New Asgard at Freya's behest to aid against the machinations of Loki (who had survived Ragnarok...sort of) and Jirryn encountered Demagogue and Einherjar. Shaking hands with the armored heroes was enough to put the young norseman in a brief, glorious coma as his gift tried to absorb and understand the technology he had encountered. When he awoke he told his family he had to return with Freya and her allies to Midgard. He had to learn more. His family was fine with this as his behavior and abilities confused and somewhat frightened them.

On Midgard, the young Aesir has taken the moniker Brightforge decked out in a curious mishmash of artisan tools, medieval weapons and high tech gadgets, he battles evil and learns all he can.

He joined the Outsiders as he feels a kinship with the others, they all feel somewhat displaced and yet excited for their futures.
