Oh, yeah, he had one at Valley Forge too.

Still a campaign speech.  Worse...programming in this period is heavily at the discretion of the local station...not the network.  Local station cares even less about campaign speeches.  Local station sells the commercials for their daytime lineup...but there aren't any for a campaign speech.

Reading the article, I'll say that Ashcroft almost has a point in saying that Democratic efforts to keep Trump off the ballot invite Republican attempts to do the same to Biden, and that a determined person can find (or invent) insurrection to justify the attempt. He is quite correct in that it can result in electoral chaos.

He and the Texas lt. gov. are wrong in claiming migrants at the southern border as their grounds for attacking Biden, because the Biden administration seems to be following the law as best it can. It's just that the laws don't accommodate conservatives' cultural and racial paranoia very well. Which is why Ashcroft only almost has a point. But such legal nicety is irrelevant when one is motivated by white-hot cultural grievance.

Actually, I agree that having Trump off the ballot in some states will lead to chaos, but what alternative is there?  To ignore his role in Jan. 6th?  To deny the severity of what took place?  That, of course, has been the Fox News/Trumpist strategy...nothing seriously wrong happened.

And, as Dean notes, this has nothing to do with legalities, and everything to do with creating distraction/chaos/delay, as these all work in Trump's favor.  He thinks he's got a big lead;  I find it hard to believe there's many undecideds left out there, not after this long, so...if he does, he'd love to have the election tomorrow.  But, it's almost as good to simply tie up the process by throwing anything he/they can find, to clog up the works.

Trump cannot legally qualify for Nevada’s 2024 primary ballot

Quote

When Nevada’s Republican voters receive their sample ballots for the state’s presidential preference primary this month, the name of the party’s current frontrunner will be missing.

His absence has nothing to do with any legal challenges to former president Donald Trump’s eligibility to participate in the state’s primary. Nevada’s Supreme Court, unlike Colorado’s, was never given the opportunity to rule on whether Trump’s behavior during and immediately following the 2020 election violated Section 3 of the 14th Amendment, which forbids those who commit insurrection from being eligible for elected office. Similarly, Secretary of State Cisco Aguilar, a Democrat, didn’t have the opportunity his colleague in Maine had to weigh in on the question himself.

No, Trump is ineligible for Nevada’s primary ballot because Trump’s campaign didn’t fill out an application to place him on Nevada’s primary ballot.

Read the story.  In this case, the situation is even more strange.  For once, this isn't really on Trump's legal team...it's even more bizarre.

The Nevada Republican Party is all sorts of messed up. Their chairperson, Michael McDonald, has been indicted for his involvement in a fake electors plot. He's decided that the party should ignore the election, and have a caucus instead, as it's believed that the caucus will favor Trump.

And taking that further, he's threatening that any Republican who registers for the primary, won't get any votes in the caucuses.  Even tho the law was changed...that was recent...and done by...by They Who Cannot Be Named!!!

This is perhaps the most extreme voter disenfranchisement move to date, as well as close to the most flagrant disregard of election law...and that's saying a WHOLE lot.

Every Democratic legislator and candidate, and their allies with a platform, need to hammer home publicly every one of these anti-democracy actions. They have to tell the voters in no uncertain terms: "The GOP want to make your vote, your voice, not matter. They think they know better than you what's good for you, what you want. They want to tell you what to do and make you obey. They don't want to represent you, they want to rule you."

The good news was that the judges raised that point, and were reportedly...particularly dubious.

EDIT:  the hopeful aspect here is, like so many Trump assertions, this one goes so far beyond anything remotely plausible, that it'll likely be completely rejected.  And as Beau says...my gosh, if you STILL support Trump for President?  Do you *really* believe that Trump could commit murder and not be criminally charged before impeachment and conviction?

Beau and the media coverage, and to a degree even the courts, are kind of missing the main point, which is that presidential immunity only covers acts performed as part of official duties.  And that the courts get to decide what acts are and are not part of the official duties.  It is logically impossible for inciting insurrection or assassinating political rivals to be part of the president's official duties.

But I almost hope that the court sides with Trump's team on this, because then all Biden has to do is whack a couple dozen senators to become unimpeachable, and then he can have Trump killed at leisure.

No.  Nothing is logically impossible.  Logically flawed, perhaps...but not impossible.

Under any reasonable interpretations?  Yeah, impossible.  This is Trump.  "Reasonable" is off the table, in a car driving 100 mph to Canada to ask for asylum.

Mmm...and an article in The Hill today.  The Trump lawyers are tossing out a "slippery slope" argument.  Uhh...well, OK, thank you for admitting your position is pathetic.  OK, fine, the assassination argument might be the extreme, but seriously, there's a zillion lesser ones.  And considering ramifications is part and parcel of analysis of an argument.

Over in the Nut House...oh, sorry, the House of Representatives...here we go again, it looks like.
