ghost-angel
Re: A Thread for Random Musings So, I've got a laptop from a friend with Ubuntu Linux on it. cool, going to turn it into my gaming laptop with Hero Designer, OpenRPG, the HERO PDFs, the works. It'll be my HeroBook. As a precaution to things I go to download the ISO to burn an install disk of Unbuntu just in case I ever have to reinstall the OS from scratch. Except I download the wrong 700MB ISO file, I get the one for the PowerPC chipset, the laptop is an x86 chipset. Even on a fairly decent DSL connection a 700MB file takes a bit of time to D/L. DO'H! Klytus
Re: A Thread for Random Musings Cross-posted from my Live Journal (Those who are interested can go read it - it open. If you can't guess my LJ handle, there's less hope for you than even I can muster right about now - though you can always check out my Member Profile here for a clue) Aye... hope does hurt. Or I should say, unrealized hope. Maybe I mean expectations..? Something was communicated to me, and based on that information, I had expected something would come to pass. It was something I wanted to happen, and was looking very forward to it. I got my hopes up. Only, as is my habit, it turns out I misunderstood. Baring something along the lines of a meteor strike, it will never occur. Not ever. I feel like I was just told by a respectable doctor that while my Mom was sick, she would make a complete and full recovery and live for at least another 50 years. So, I took that information and made it part of my lifeplan and outlook. Then, a week later, I learn that I had misunderstood, because when they gave me the news about my mother, she was already dead, and I missed the funeral. I am crushed in ways I can't even begin to describe. Which is worse? The constant emptiness and melancholy of having no hope at all? Or the bouts of soul-ripping heartache that only shattered hopes can deliver? Having gone through both, I'm beginning to think its the latter. Realized hopes can bring great joy. At least, that's the rumor. Lord knows I sure can't speak from personal experience. I am just so.damn.tired. of all the pain.

bigdamnhero
Re: A Thread for Random Musings So I’m sitting in the airport yesterday waiting for my flight (delayed – again!). I’ve got my laptop out and I’m writing up some game stuff. Sitting near me is a 20-something geek boy playing Diablo on his laptop, a 40-something business-guy reading a book, and a 70-ish gentleman just minding his own business. Along comes this very cute blonde girl in a very tight T-shirt. Three male heads turn in unison to follow as she walks past. Any guesses who was the only guy who didn’t even notice her existence? Old Man
Re: A Thread for Random Musings Yesterday I learned that a former coworker of mine solicited a $50 blow job a few blocks from the office from what he thought was a very attractive woman. Unfortunately for him, that area of town is not known for attractive women. Pretty much all of this falls squarely into the realm of TMI, at least for me. ghost-angel
Re: A Thread for Random Musings Nan Desu Kan was this past weekend. I was supposed to be just an attendee this year while my wife spent her last year as a director (namely her title this year was Programming Director). Next year she will simply run panels. I found out something: If I have no responsibility pre-con, I can show up and work happily. This is good as I had essentially burned out two years ago and last year was working in Operations, but mostly taking up space. This year I still managed to end up with a Staff Badge (stolen) and a Staff Shirt (no stolen, and even if it was no a single person there would have stopped me). So I'll be working Security next year, basic Goon level. Looking forward to it. I also tried something: I ddnt wear anything anime (never do) nor did I wear a badge. I wasn't stopped once going anywhere. Either we have crappy people checking badges or I'm infamous. Quotes: A very nice mother of two was looking for advice on panels to attend regarding Manga and Art in general. After mentioning a few, pointing her at some artists I knew to give good advice and be friendly she thanked me then had to confess something: "This convention, I hope you don't get offended, but it looks to be a cross of Halloween and Soft Core Porn." When I was done laughing I agreed completely with her. "Dude, Riley it's Jesus." Was overheard shouted in the hallway. There was a guy dresses as Jesus (not Buddy Christ, but Jesus) wandering the halls. So it wasn't a random statement, but it was funny. Enforcer84
Re: A Thread for Random Musings Half a holiday and I couldn't sleep. So instead of working on necessary projects i took a nap when I got home. I'd feel bad if I didn't feel so good. I have gotten a lot done on my Tomorrow Legion, the main characters are set at both starting and current levels. I have the timeline started and I'm happy with it, so far. Have some ideas for the next generation of characters and am pleased with the momentum.
