Lord Liaden
Note that the ship ran aground after being in a severe storm. Wind and waves could have pushed it significantly farther. And if the island they landed on wasn't near a common travel route... You wouldn't be the first one. Related segue, I used to do a lecture on Commedia dell'arte and the history of stock characters. Gilligan's Island is a beautiful example of modern use of stock characters, so I used it for obvious examples. Years later, I said I would do a guest lecture in college for a friend on the topic. When I brought up Gilligan's Island I was treated with the blankest stares I ever got from a class. They had no idea WTH I was talking about. My universal example was now hopelessly dated. (Fortunately I got them back, mostly, by using Futurama examples.) I left that classroom feeling very old. Lord Liaden and L. Old TV shows that used to be local TV staples tend to be relegated to channels like MeTV and IFC nowadays, and kids aren't watching them. Years ago, I saw a statistic the Gilligan's Island was on tv somewhere on any given day because it was the most syndicated show in history. I sometimes wonder how long that lasted.
