  2. Re: A DC Animated-style HeroMachine He must've gotten a few new "Doc's Little Helpers" from Professor Impossible's lab.
  3. Re: Language Games and Fantasy Languages Sounds kinda like how Mushmouth talks on the Fat Albert Show.
  4. Re: The Worst character in comics I never really read much of Bishop, but in the recent X-treme X-Men series, Claremont gives him a grab-bag of weird powers. Apparently now, he's got nanites that do stuff. "What sort of stuff," you ask? Pretty much whatever sort of stuff Claremont needs him to do, which work perfectly until Claremont needs them not to work. Just like everyone else in the book. Pretty typical "He's a mutant, he's got powers!" Claremont writing, actually.
  5. Re: Killershrike, I summon thee... You're trying to tell us that you don't have a titanium spine that allows you to generate bolts of electricity and lift 2000 pounds?
  6. Re: A New Dawn. 'Post-Apocalyptic' Fantasy That makes sense. I copied over your everyman list on the new sheet so it should be correct now. I also replaced the PS and KS skills. If my math is right, I've still got 3 points to play with. Anything you'd recommend?

  8. Re: Staying conscious and alive I've got a character with a similar power. Doesn't keep him alive if he goes below 0 Body, but it keeps him from getting KO'd when he goes below 0 Stun, once per day. Blessing of Helene: Healing STUN & END 4d6, Trigger (Activating the Trigger is an Action that takes no time, Trigger requires a Turn or more to reset, Character does not control activation of personal Trigger; When Drops Below 0 STUN; +1/4), STUN and END simultaneously (+1/2); 1 Charge (-2), Only When Drops Below 0 STUN (-1), Only When Defending the Helpless (-1), Self Only (-1/2). 70 Active points; 13 real points.
  9. Re: A New Dawn. 'Post-Apocalyptic' Fantasy Hm. I'm paying for it for the Eldran language, but not the native tongue. But that's just one point.
  10. Re: A New Dawn. 'Post-Apocalyptic' Fantasy Huh. That's funny. My HD only counts 72 points in skills, giving him a grand total of 247.

  15. FMH Recap for May 5, 2008 Injured and exhausted as the heroes were, they decided to head back to South Lörm to rest, recover, and wait for reinforcements. They were greeted as heroes on their arrival, especially when they told everyone that they had killed two giants. While Kaira tended to Finnegan's wounds, Leth went to talk with the Lieutenant. "Backup troops should be arriving from Masingberg in about two days," Lt. Dunkin told Leth. But the Dwarf didn't like the idea of waiting for two days to let the Giants further solidify their hold on the pass. Additionally, he wanted to know what was going on in the Dwarven town on the other side of the pass. Illy took this to heart and found a secluded spot from which she might scry the pass for the enemy. She spent most of the day in front of a large mirror, scanning the area. She saw plenty of Giant-sign all along the pass. What was worse, when she looked at the town of South Mountain Pass, she saw that its gates had been battered down, and there were Giants roaming unopposed through its streets! She spotted a large contingent of Giants camped near what she took to be a large temple, and surmised that perhaps the people of the town had holed up there. At Leth's urging, she cast a difficult spell, allowing her to speak with one of the Dwarves there. She managed to contact a young priest named Pulo, who (after recovering from the surprise of a voice coming out of nowhere) told her what was going on. "I was asleep here at the temple at the time (and thank the gods for that!), but a terrible ice storm blew in from the north. And with it came a hoard of Giants! They took the guards by surprise and hammered down our gates. Luckily, the soldiers held them off long enough for most of the town to retreat here behind these temple walls. We've been holed up here for days, with no way out." "The Demorian army is on the march," Illy told him. "They plan on re-taking the Pass, and then I'm sure they will come to liberate you, but it will be a few days. Can you hold out that long?" He assured her that they had food and water to last another week (or longer if they began rationing), and that the temple walls were ancient and very strong and should hold off the Giants for at least that long, gods willing. Illy relayed this information to the others. "Well, I don't like the idea of going up ahead through Giant-infested territory," Leth said. "But I like the idea of leaving my people to fend for themselves even less. So what do we do?" "If we can find the Giant's leader, or the thaumaturge who's creating this weather, we might be able to assassinate him," Castilla suggested. "Hm," Leth considered this idea. "Without their leader, the Giant's organization might just fall apart. They're notoriously clannish; it would take a strong leader to get so many to work together for so long. Eliminate him, we might eliminate most of the problem." After some debate, the heroes decided this was the best idea. Illy thought she could brew some sort of potion to weaken the Giant's leader, if Castilla could slip it secretly into his food or drink, so she spent most of the day working on that. Once all their preparations were made, the heroes set off again, accompanied by their guides Obert and Raymond (who refused to be left behind). Once again, the heroes hiked up the mountain and into the fierce storm. They continued on through the night, avoiding any sign of Giants (they didn't want to be weakened by another fight, nor risk the chance of someone getting away to warn the other Giants). Soon they came to the Dwarves' watchtower, set to guard the northern side of the pass. It was ruined, collapsed in on itself and burned to the ground. Quickly, the heroes searched the ruins, finding nothing but the dead. But then Castilla discovered something – another tunnel, like the one they saw back at the Inn. This gave Leth an idea. "What if we were to follow the tunnel?" he asked. "It heads in the direction we're going. Underground, we could avoid being spotted by the Giants, and we wouldn't have to trudge through knee-deep snow." "But what if whatever dug the tunnel is waiting for us?" Finn asked. "Then we'll have to kill it – which we planned to do anyway," Illy told him. Kaira summoned an Elemental of the Earth to accompany them, just in case they needed a quick way out, and the heroes climbed down into the depths of the earth. They traveled in silence for several hours, walking single-file through the narrow tunnel. Then Styggiad heard something; a rumbling or vibration in the walls. "Something's coming!" She told the others. Kaira immediately ordered the Elemental to dig a passage towards the surface – she didn't want to be trapped in this confined space during a fight! The rumbling grew louder, then softer, then louder again. The heroes, nervously, followed the Elemental upwards. Chrissie began to sing a tune to keep their spirits up, and that's when it happened! The rough stone wall beside her began to glow cherry-red and suddenly a huge beast, blazing with lava-like heat came out. Its jaws snapped shut on the Taleweaver and began to drag her into its tunnel. Illy cast a spell to partially paralyze it while the two guides (who were nearby) grabbed Chrissie and yanked her from its mouth. Styggiad charged up the tunnel and stabbed it with her spear, driving the blade deep into its hide, but the heat of the creature was so great that the spear's wooden shaft burst into flames! Injured, the creature tore through the passageway and dove through the earth, digging a new tunnel as easily as a man might walk across a street. Illy started to follow it, but found the tunnel's walls were red-hot with molten rock. She blasted the tunnel with a storm of ice to cool it down. Meanwhile, Chrissie's unconscious form was passed up the tunnel to Kaira, who had just broken through to the surface. The young Druid worked feverishly to save her friend's life, guarded by the Elemental and the two scouts. Finnegan, still down in the tunnels, heard the creature coming again. He saw it pass through the tunnel directly behind him and blasted it with black lightning. Moments later, it came back again. Styggiad again lunged at it with her other spear, again stabbing it deeply (and again losing her spear in the process). Illy wrapped its massive jaw up in ice, which it quickly melted through. Finn, unable to get close enough to it in these narrow tunnels, blasted it again. Between the three heroes pounding on it, soon the giant lava-worm was dead. Outside, back in the storm, Kaira managed to stabilize and awaken Chrissie. She was still sore and tired, but she would live. The heroes filed out of the tunnel to try to get their bearings. "Look!" Styggiad said. "Lights!" The heroes followed her gaze and saw that they were indeed not more than a mile from the Dwarven city of South Mountain Pass. TBC!

  18. Re: A New Dawn. 'Post-Apocalyptic' Fantasy Re-wrote the character background (after re-reading the campaign history) and played with him a bit. Hopefully he'll fit a bit better now.
  19. Re: So, what don't you like about HERO 5th? In my game, we use "Boggled," but lots of folks use "Con Stunned." I've heard it for years. In situations like this, I must ask: "When you hear the term "Con Stunned," do you understand what the person is trying to get across (despite it being not the proper, by-the-book term), or do you genuinely do not get it?" If it's the first, it's not a problem. Chalk it up to a house rule and move on. If it's the second... well, I've never encountered anyone for whom it was the second.
  20. Re: Justice Squadron: TNG Don't know if this is the best way, but my own Spider-Man homage uses this: 9 Spider Tracers: Detect Spider Tracers 13- (Radio Group), Increased Arc Of Perception (360 Degrees), Telescopic: +10, Tracking, 6 Recoverable Continuing Charges lasting 1 Day each (+0); OIF (-1/2), Restrainable (Bugs can be destroyed; -1/2) [6 rc]
  21. Re: A New Dawn. 'Post-Apocalyptic' Fantasy Whoops! I meant to put Helene in there. Don't know why I was thinking Heironymous for his martial arts -- must be the similar portfolios (yeah, I've always liked Greyhawk too, can you tell?).
  22. Re: A New Dawn. 'Post-Apocalyptic' Fantasy You've got quite a menagerie goin' on there. How about someone a little more vanilla to fill out the ranks? (I don't have time to write much ATM, but I might fill out his background a bit more when I get home. There's a few blank spots in his skill list and his background for the GM to help me with -- I'm not sure what would be a good former-kingdom for him to have hailed from, and I have no idea what languages might be spoken). What do you think, sirs?
