  1. Re: What Have You Watched Recently? Been watching Dollhouse and Secret Diary of a Call Girl online. Enjoying both shows thoroughly.
  2. Re: What if spells were like weapons? good for a Mordheim style setting... hmmm....
  3. Re: PA Hero:How long would plumbing work? around 1/2 PSI (.43 IIRC) per foot of elevation, minus friction losses from the pipe and any fittings.
  4. Re: A Thread for Random Videos Stumbled across this and thought it was too cool not to share. The full notes are cool... it's done in Fremen extracted from the various Dune novels
  5. Re: 'Magic Missile' style spell in a VPP with modifiers pretty much the same way I'd have done it, with the possible exception of swapping out one level of Pen for Extra Stun Mods, because I'm a munchkin that way...
  6. Re: 'Magic Missile' style spell in a VPP with modifiers I'm pretty sure you could do it legally with a Compound Power and 5 pt OCV levels. another thing to ramp up the accuracy is No Range Mod or Line of Sight. Magic Missile type spells are often written up to exploit advantage stacking. You might consider shifting from an EB to a low DC RKA. What Active Point limit are you looking at?
  7. Re: What if spells were like weapons? Sounds entirely do-able, and probably quite user friendly (largely because, as you said, it's very front loaded by the GM). My immediate thoughts... Why not have spells have a defined monetary value? At least to initially learn. Cost balances come in when comparing initial cost, replacement costs and expendables costs (to state the obvious ) This might be a good system to use Stat Min limitations for spells. I'll be pondering. This has potential.
  8. Re: PA Hero:How long would plumbing work? Honestly, just like in the good old days, in a PA society that has anything even remotely resembling civilization you'll probably see a return of the Night Soil Collectors, who travel around with carts or other vehicles to empty pits, pump leech fields and the like, then haul the proceeds somewhere far enough from settlements that the smell won't offend, spread and process the stuff. It's too valuable as a source of nitrates for both farming and for producing black powder.
  9. Re: The best questions you can ask! my Ex asks this question as a conversational disengage, whenever she doesn't want to continue along the present line of conversation. This is a quirk she added since we parted. When she pulled it with me, last time we talked on the phone, my answer was "Pi"
  10. Re: Not "Secret", not "Public", just "Identity" Heh, was just thinking about Psi-World. One of our first Espionage games was a conversion from Psi-World. Props for the mention, brings back some fond memories
  11. Re: Not "Secret", not "Public", just "Identity" IMO, what you're describing here is EXACTLY the most common pitfall that GM's can fall into when faced with a character with no ID related Social Disadvantages. The Character gets no Disad points for it. Therefore, it shouldn't disadvantage the Character, so it follows that hammering the No "*" ID character for not having a "*" ID isn't fair. Gamemasters who can't control their compulsion to frack with characters because they don't maintain a Secret ID should require an ID related disad in their campaign ground rules. But not taking the Disad should never be worse that taking the Disad

  13. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? my on again off again roommate playing her guitar.
  14. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Been reading Jim Butcher's Codex Alera series. Currently, I'm up to the 3rd book Cursor's Fury. Entertaining, thus far. No surprises, I expected as much from the author of The Dresden Files. The Roman elements struck me as odd enough that I went delving online to find out what was up with 'em. Fairly cool magic system. I'll keep reading them as they come out.
  15. Re: Inceptum Terminus: Chronicles of the New Confederation Sweet. I wanna keep my eye on this thread...

  17. Re: Western Era Firearms This should be interesting, just in case he does appear to answer... Don't get your hopes up tho... Fox1 has been gone lo these many years, and his combat/weapons system modifications aren't really compatible with the by-the-book versions, although in their defense they represent probably the most "realistic" variant of HERO combat I've seen thus far.
  18. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... The Atrocity Archives by Charles Stross Good stuff. IT professional saves the world from Lovecraftian menaces while dealing with the bureaucracy of life in the Top-Top-Secret lane. Deliberately written as a Len Deighton/Lovecraft pastiche.
  19. Re: Worth a thousand words? heh, the pseudo-Magic Cleavage Window effect popped this into my head... 5 "I think that costume violates several laws of physics..." +2 DCV (10 AP) Partially Limited Power: Only works against those of appropriate orientation (-1/2) OIF (-1/2)
  20. Re: Sapphire up my first thought was "I wanna see the 7th sapphire"
  21. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? This Is Halloween -Marilyn Manson
  22. Re: A Thread for Random Musings The things I miss out on when I neglect my various Social Networking sites... Apparently, about a week ago a friend of mine was beat down by assailants wielding hammers. From the sound of it, he died in the OR, but they got him back. There was a fair bit of brain damage, but from the reports he's still himself, albeit without the use of his right arm and with major speech center difficulties. His massage therapy business is almost certainly doomed, and once he's out of the ACU he's getting shipped back to his family in Oregon. The ones who kicked him out when he was 13. I am full of a dull, unfocused rage. About the only silver lining I can see is that, because he died, they get to charge his attackers with Murder.
  23. Re: Fantasy Magic System This totally depends on your campaign guidelines and limits. If you're strict with one archetype and lenient with another, then balance will suffer. In general, the strongest balance bias I've seen in Fantasy Hero is in favor of what Rolemaster used to call a Semi-spellcaster. Effective fighting skills can come fairly cheap, and backing those skills up with a small assortment of complimentary powers can make a disproportionately nasty character for the points. It the modern era of higher powered cinematic/fiction style Talents like Deadly Blow and Combat Luck, however, the difference is much reduced from previous editions.
  24. Re: Fantasy Magic System As you're new here, you haven't been introduced to Killer Shrike's site yet, so I'll post the link before he does... Magic System Design He's put a lot of skull sweat into analyzing the pro's and con's of various magic system design principles, and has about a gazillion pre-built systems up as examples or that can be gaffled whole cloth if you're pressed for time or feeling uninspired. That aside, welcome!
