    Thanks for the kind words, and I completely agree with you (about the CV thing... not about me being a swell guy   ).

    I'm under no illusion that the way I described prevents the player from knowing, or that the player won't quickly figure it out, or that it's a problem if/when the player does figure it out.  My only point is just what I said: that it doesn't require the player to know the opponent's DCV.  So if you want the uncertainty for those first few dice throws, you can have it.

    Roll 3d6.

    If you roll exactly 11, you hit a DCV equal to your OCV.
    If you roll below 11, you hit a DCV one point better than your OCV for each point you roll below 11.
    If you roll above 11, you hit a DCV one point worse than your OCV for each point you roll above 11.

    It sounds slightly complicated to write out in words, but it's very easy to do in play. I've never really encountered a player who struggled with it...

    EDIT: Obviously, this is the same thing greypaladin_01 suggested above; it's just a different way of getting there that generally lets you add or subtract smaller numbers.

    I'm not going to try an revisit the discussions of the past, but it was just one of many "fix a bug" by creating "more bugs".  In the end the GM is tied around the axial anyway.   We ignored it and never had that issue.  Doesn't mean it wasn't an issue somewhere, but it never seemed to rear its head no matter where I played, even between states.  So, meh.
    In the end they made the changes they wanted and the players ignored what they wanted to.

    I wasn't sure how to get edits to you, so I figured I'd post them here.  Sorry, only got up to page 6 in the Player book, too many things going on right now.  But I figured something is better than nothing.  Where I'm quoting text, I put it in curly brackets, and tried to denote words to be added or changed in red.   I also tried to differentiate between actual errors to be fixed and suggestions to maybe improve pieces.

    Champions Begins – Player book
    Page 1:     Intro, paragraph 2 – error {not have any, it’s all great fun.}
                       What is Champions, paragraph 4 – suggest {and how to get out there punching bad guys}
    Page 2:     Play That Role, paragraph 1 – suggest {rules to make it work well with others.}
                       Same section, paragraph 4 – error {across the street.”  Ask the old fellow}
                       Same section, same paragraph – suggest {The Game Master (GM) is playing…} – It’s not hard to figure out in context, but it can’t hurt, and won’t mess too much with formatting.
                       Don’t Hate the Game…Master, paragraph 2 – error {you’ll get through it somehow, even}
    Page 3:     Enough Already!, paragraph 1 – error {I agree, let’s get to the game.}
                       Enough Already!, paragraph 1 & 2, suggest:
                                   I agree, let’s get to the game.  This adventure is set up in several parts.  The first scenario has some basic concepts and a simple plot to get things rolling.  Later parts add more info and new things you can do, as the story unfolds.
                              So let’s open this comic book and get started!
                       In Character, paragraph 4 – error {Your GM will have character cards}
                       Getting Personal, paragraph 1 – suggest {so you can see what you can do in each chapter.
                       The Character Sheet, graphic of character sheet – suggest you use a shot of the first one (with only STR, DEX, INT, OCV, DCV, PD, ED, SPEED, and STUN).  The reader is likely to refer to it while reading the next page.
    Page 4:     Characteristics, paragraph 2 – suggest not hyphenate “baby”
                       Same section – suggest moving paragraph 3 {Strength…} above 2 {How Good Is My Stat?}.  I think that might flow better, since paragraph 1 mentions three “primary” characteristics.
                       Characteristics, paragraph 10 – the first character card (in the Character Book) also lists SPEED in the characteristics.  You may want to mention it among the other Combat characteristics.  Also suggest putting STUN in all caps, throughout the doc, when referring to the characteristic.
                       Movin’ On Up – suggest reword first sentence, maybe something like {The PURPLE section of the character sheet shows how the character can move around.}  If so, perhaps have the next sentence start {Some characters have}
                       Combat – suggest {and the base OCV roll (explained below) you have with each.}  A newbie is likely to see an OCV of 5 in the Characteristics, and the OCV of 16- in the Combat section, and get confused, since both are labeled OCV.
    Page 5:     Fighting Words – error {It’s not a Superhero story}
                       Punching Bad Guys, paragraph 1 – error {When it’s your chance}
                       Punching Bad Guys, paragraph 4 – suggest {you hit that DCV (or less).}  Also suggest {then you hit a 6 DCV or less.}
                       Punching Bad Guys, Example – suggest {Apex hit any DCV up to 7.}
                       You Look Stunning, paragraph 2 – error {grouping the dice in tens}
    Page 6:     SPEED – you refer to SPD (both in here and in the Character Book) in the text, though the character sheets have it spelled out SPEED.  I’d suggest you keep it SPEED here as well, or note it as {First on the block is SPEED (or SPD),}

    Sorry I didn't get through more, but hope this helps.

    Watched "Star Wars Visions. Basically Anime Studios takes on The Star Wars Mythos. Wide Ranging from humorous to Dark.  overall quality was good, but there were a couple I didn't find all that good. All of them were short, but had a fairly wide range of styles. I definitely could recommend them, Samurai and Jedi have a very significant crossover.

    Hill Street Blues
      The 1980’s police drama was the first version of what N.Y.P.D. Blue became. With many of the same producers, writers and actors this was a gritty and honest for the time look at a police precinct in an unnamed large U.S. city.
       Memorable characters and a number of “before they became stars” (Star Trek TNG’s Jonathon Frakes as a petty criminal afraid to go into the system because he was “too pretty” and Brent Spiner as a sleazy Porn Director) actors make this a show to watch if you get the chance.

    Joe Walsh reacted to Spence in I love USPS.........NOT!!!
    I don't know.  I have had issues in the past with deliveries to my house.  USPS, UPS, FedEx and so on.  My neighborhood also started to see mail disappear and packages get stolen after delivery.
    So I made a small change.
    I got a post office box at a nearby UPS store that I have pretty much everything except the unstoppable junk mail delivered to.

    Since I did that I have had pretty much no issues at all.  At the most I have had things take a little longer, but I have been getting everything, and in undamaged condition.
    In the last few years with stores reducing their on hand stock to nearly nothing I want I have been ordering more than ever before.

    It may not be a direct correlation, but cutting out the extra "to the house" step of delivery seems to have gotten rid of 99% of my issues.

    Well to be fair, the D&D cleric was developed/designed when it was the only show in town.  It fulfilled a character ability need while staying vague and non-specific on any religious details.  They may have added supplements to fill out choices like Dieties and Demigods.  But in the original build there were no specifics.

    For me the class/level type game system hasn't aged well.  But if played as intended within the setting intended, they do the job and can make a fun game.

    If you don't understand why this is a thank you, and you haven't checked it out already, please:

    So this one is actually finished!

    However, it's a bit niche, and out of respect for the fine people at HERO Games and those folks who publish RPG books, there are several references to other HERO Games materials (mostly Bestiaries and the like); it didn't feel right to include stuff that other people were selling, you know?

    A brief explanation:

    Chris Goodwin pitched an idea at me that tickled my fancy so thoroughly that I asked him how he planned to introduce the idea.

    He had hit upon the idea of revisiting that old love-it-or-hate-it classic, Barrier Peaks from TSR.  This time, though, he wanted to run it as a western as opposed to a fantasy.  Cowboys and Aliens (man, what an awful movie  ) just tickled me enough that I became _very_ interested.  He didn't have any real solid plans beyond the creature conversions: no setting; no introduction. At least, not yet.  So I _begged_ him for permission to write something for him and his group-- a setting in which the adventure would take place; a series of hooks to draw the PCs into this classic bait-and-switch (which is why I hated it, originally, but Chris promised he was going to let his Players know up-front what was going on to prevent the extreme negative reactions that half of those who played that old module experienced-- myself included).

    At any rate, you don't _have_ to put Expedition to the Barrier Peaks in the center of this.  You can put in some weird voodoo, or perhaps some native american spirits, or what-have-you.

    Please note that the idea and the Bestiary recommendations / conversions are not mine; that was all Chris' hard work, and frankly, I think he chose well.  The Grey Men-- well, that's me, but it's really a universal thing, I think: the treacherous and horrible shapeshifter....

    Or perhaps I've said too much.

    As in the thread I linked above, this one is for anyone who wants it:

    It's the best way I know to thank all of those who worked so hard on the old Web Ring of Heroes to keep the game alive when there was nothing else.

    Read an article about how Texas is changing;  the growth rate is seriously high, and this may alter voting patterns.  That'll take a while, tho.

    Some things from recent news:  another hospital was sued to try to force treatment with ivermectin.  It was denied.  But that's at least 2.  Then there's the *bizarre* protest in NYC about Australia's very tight restrictions.  Part of the protest, I saw, included overturning a mobile Covid testing station...so much for being purely peaceful.  In another story, the core was about a 10 year old girl who died 5 days after showing initial symptoms...and while the parents were bedside, grieving, people were at a school board hearing calling for the end of mask mandates because Covid only takes out the old and sick.

    The degree of active disinformation is perhaps the greatest threat to free speech we've ever seen.  It's been weaponized, and with instant communications, it's created its own perpetual motion.  It has shown that nearly unbridled free speech may no longer be in society's best interest...which is horrifying.  And I'm not saying that there are good solutions here;  anything that restricts negative speech can very likely be turned around.  But the status quo is broken.  That needs to be acknowledged, and a search for potential remedies started.  To be sure:  there's no real chance that any changes will be made.  But I think the debate has to start.

    Also includes text of the new disclaimer on the doctor's small role in the process which absolves the doctor of any blame if the patient actually takes any of the "cures" that the salesmen recommend. (The process appears to be the dupe pays $90 to talk to a salesman who sees which variety of snake oil the dupe is open to purchasing. The salesman then recommends that snake oil cure. The patient then fills out a form to request a doctor write a prescription whenever the recommended "cure" is some prescription medicine which doesn't affect COVID.)

    I don't think it would be justified to say that Granny personally "remembered" the American Civil War. Like many folk from Tennessee, the events of the "War Between the States" -- from a Southern perspective -- were probably part of her cultural background. I'd probably peg her age at late sixties when the show started, given the average life span during that era; and the fact the show ran for eight seasons.

    The Clampett clan's exceptional vigor was implicitly due to their rugged mountain backwoods heritage and upbringing, compared to "city folk." Rather like how Robert E. Howard distinguished between "barbarian" and "civilized" men.

    Now that I’m thinking about it, that whole family tree was metahuman.  Granny (Daisy Moses) was Jed’s mother in law and was a lady wrestler for a while at an age to have remembered the Civil War so in the early 1960’s so she had to be around ninety. Jethro had a twin sister named Jethrine (also played by Max Baer jr.) who was just as strong as he was.  Their mother (Pearl Bodine) was Elly May’s aunt so she must have been Jed’s sister, and she had a sonic attack yodel that could take a man off his feet. Also don’t forget Elly’s animal empathy
       Now you have three family lines, Moses, Bodines and Clampetts all showing paranormal abilities but when the show went on location to BugTussle the nearest town to the Clampetts old cabin, the residents were odd and out of date, but not empowered.
      So what do you think happened?  A meteor like the one that fell in Wold-Newton England and caused the mutations that gave that extended family tree it’s abilities possibly irradiating the water table. Special flora like the Wakandan “heart shaped herb” being part of the recipe of Granny’s Spring Tonic, it was mandatory for all family members and did have strange effects on city folk.  Or could it be something even more astounding?

    Yeah, my wife's wanting to go visit a cousin in TN who told her that there wasn't anyone in her county who has COVID (when on national hotspot maps, it's showing that area covered up in new cases).

    So I found the TN health department's website which shows a county-by-county breakdown of cases and it showed her very rural low-population county with hundreds of new cases per week.

    Turns out she wasn't aware because it isn't mentioned in her local news sources.

    She and her husband both has COVID last year and he's been one of those long-haul permanently damaged cases.

    Their local doctor is anti-vax and advised neither of them to get vaccinated because of the "dangers" of the vaccine...with her husband having on-going breathing problems.

    Personally, I'm getting more in the mood for torches and pitchforks than with "increased sanctions by social media outlets" as a way to deal with anti-vaxxers....
