  1. Yeah looks like flight with a funny special effect to me. It might appear to be swinging, but it doesn't have any of the normal constructs or limitations of swinging, its just moving through the air in an unusual way.
  2. Well, sure but he blew up the dimensional barriers by accident? And the Dr Strange trailer makes it look like he's kind of a fool too.
  3. Unfortunately I think you're right, it feels like a different production company despite the tons of crossover things. I am concerned that they are increasingly making Dr Strange look like a bumbling ass, though.
  4. I loved Monica Rambeau and think she's never been well handled. She was interesting and powerful. And I liked Binary a lot, she was incredibly powerful. But apparently nobody at Marvel did.
  5. I think most GMs take this approach: the active point/stat limits are a general guideline, but you let schtick characters break it in their schtick if they are otherwise balanced. Making Captain Invincible with 40 PD and ED fully resistant is okay IF he doesn't also hit really hard and have all other defenses at high levels. Havoc from the X-Men is a great example: he has a GIGANTIC blast, but no real defenses or anything else. Vulnerability against attacks you don't expect or from surprise is a classic Golden Age schtick: Captain Marvel was basically immune, but a sneak attack could knock him out for a little while.
  6. No Way Home has earned 600 million so far in its first week, that's a serious hit. And... it makes the previous couple Marvel films look really wan and weak. All the excuses we've heard for why they didn't do well are not adding up.
  7. Great analysis Dsatow, particularly part 3.
  8. We have amazing guns, bombs, tasers, and all manner of interesting weapons today but you know we still use knives, and they are feared for a reason. Militaries around the world still train in sword use (although its trained using a long knife on the end of a rifle). Swords are a valid weapon even putting aside the cool factor, in any sort of setting. Are they especially useful against armor? Not very often, but then not everyone has armor.
  9. The Joker is a normal man with an amazing brain and lunacy. I could take down Joker. It doesn't take a special power level to do so.
  10. Spider-Man No Way Home seems to be doing really well, at least 300 mill its first weekend. Whether it can keep this up or not we'll see but word of mouth is pretty good on it.
  11. I like some of these ideas, but the problem is you don't want to turn it into Chart Law where you have to consult table 4.2 to find out what matrix you use on page 742 adjusted by chart 13.8
  12. I do like the idea of maneuvers that one weapon is better with than others, but I'm not sure how to really represent that in Hero terms. Swords getting +1 OCV kind of covers that, its just a good overall weapon that is easier to get a useful hit with, while axes hit harder, but take a particular sort of swing
  13. This kind of thing helps me with figuring out weapons as well. There's been so much gigantically amazing stuff discovered and studied in just the last 10-20 years over medieval weapons and armor that almost everything has changed about what we understood about them. In other words, the weapon list from AD&D in 1979 or even the Fantasy Hero weapon lists from the 80s is just not up to date. The more we study of this the better we can give a good representation for a game.
  14. This is one of the main flaws of d20/D&D type games: I hate the single die resolution
  15. Well his point is this: more dice is more exciting than a few funny dice. He explained why there's more dice and how it matters, whereas the one or two polyhedrals actually end up being meaningless
  16. Yeah I had a campaign set in Chicago that split off part of it to go to Detroit which in my universe was being run by VIPER. It didnt last long enough to get major impressions but the comparison was very interesting in approach and tone.
  17. Honestly while the dice are fun to play with, you don't notice it when you get into play because the mechanics work as is and the dice are cosmetic but irrelevant.
  18. Yeah there have been several suggestions about how to use polyhedrals in Hero and they can be done, but its a bit more work. I do love those dice and have a huge collection but these days all my dice are getting dusty.
  19. Any ideas on how the copy should read for this? We need a blurb for the sites that carry this. Its gotta be punchy and interesting in the first lines, and explain the basics of what it is: Teaches how to play and run Champions Easy Full adventure Introduction to superhero role playing Premade characters Maps and character illustrations included Four books for free
  20. All instances of ethnic spite and hatred have a basis in some events or actions in the past. Its almost always crazy exaggerations or fears, but its based on something, its not simply at whim or random. The problem with distinguishing between mutants and every other super is that you cannot both argue "its irrational, people are stupid" and also "people pick these things based on scientific examination of the facts and fear natural consequences". Those two things are in direct conflict. For the average person with a fear of people who are different and fear their race being replaced (kind of an abstract fear, even if it happens, it would be scores of generations into the future) there's no real distinction between Wolverine and Spider-Man or Superman (an alien!) or Captain Marvel and on and on. There's me with no powers struggling to get through life and that dude who flies and juggles trucks. You say one's a mutant and one isn't but what's the difference to the man on the street? They're all superbeings. They're just better than me. Somewhat, but that was mostly based on the Communists being the enemy of the USA, with an ideology that wanted to destroy the west, and who was actually, and provably, attempting to infiltrate and manipulate the US. That some built on that fear of the hidden other was an added layer, but its not crazy to see how they were, actually, amongst the west and working amidst everyone in secret. People took that to crazy and unconstitutional places out of fear, but the fear wasn't unreasonable or unjustified. Contrast that with Mutants many of the most prominent who work to save the world, protect people, save lives, rebuild, and help people and you've got a pretty poor comparison.
  21. Yeah basically its just the conceit of X-Men because Stan wanted to make a point. It falls apart under any real scrutiny like a lot of superhero tropes, but this one is a bit more annoying because it feels forced and makes the heroes suffer. And these days, I think people have had well more than enough ham-handed messaging.
  22. Yes, quite a few. Most very fine and rare materials will provide "matching points" to enchant with. That is, you spend one CP, they will donate 1 CP in return to lower cost of making magic items. The amount of points is limited by the quantity and quality of the materials (Gems, high end metals, special leather, etc). Lots of details on this in the Jolrhos Field Guide.
