zslane got a reaction from slikmar in Godzilla, King of the Monsters
I loved the 2014 movie, so my faith in this one feels reasonably justified.

zslane got a reaction from Amorkca in CITY OF HEROS
I just read yesterday's update from the server admin on the COH Discord group and his team is validating what they have on their hard drives and working on a plan going forward. He admits that he panicked and took everything down prematurely. There is still hope and they aren't giving up.

I dunno. That teaser filled me with meh. I don't know if any trailer can undo the damage done by The Last Jedi at this point.

BTW, as much as I like Five and his teleporting, I'm still not a fan of the time travel nonsense the show is built around.

Yup. That's correct. The purpose of that is to show that the GM has to figure out how poison works in their game before you can make a defense for it. I didn't quote him, but I was trying to back up the two-headed camel's point a few posts above mine.
100% on board with you here.
Of course, pre-5e, Life Support didn't have poison resistance either. Life Support specified it didn't provide protections against attacks. So we drop one special effect dependent defense and add another.
I agree with all this too. I think we are on the same page, and just took a different method of illustrating it.

Duke there are two types of people in this world. One who likes the original trilogy and the other who are wrong. ?

zslane got a reaction from Lee in Star Wars IX The Rise of Skywalker
The teaser may not be designed to help us learn what the movie is really all about, but its job is to get us excited to see the movie. That appears to have worked on kids and casual fans (not exactly the most discerning lot), but it barely moves the needle for the hardcore fans who have been wounded too deeply by the profound disappointment that was The Last Jedi and the rehash of episode IV that was The Force Awakens.

Don't get me wrong. I don't really consider them horrible movies. Just movies that were made before they really had the movie tech to make a convincing supers movie. Kind of like scifi movies from the 50/60's. I like a lot of them, but they really didn't have the technology to do what they wanted. But shows like the Teen Titans are actually worse in my opinion, it is like the people making the calls on casting and costuming had never seen any of the comics. Just bad.
But as to additional streaming services, DC, Disney, CBS and on, have a long way to go before I subscribe. I really enjoy Game of Thrones, but no matter how much I like the show, I just can't subscribe to HBO for one, maybe two shows a year. And that is all HBO usually has. At least that is all they have that interests me, so paying for so little is not an option.
The same thing applies to most of the new streaming services. Like Old Man, I get Amazon Prime Video only because it came with Prime. And I get Netflix, Hulu and CR because they carry shows from multiple sources. If the streams and the pay cable networks offered true "ala carte", by which I mean the ability to purchase/rent specific titles/episodes, I'd probably watch their shows a lot more rather than waiting for a video release.
The entertainment is littered with far more failures than successes, and this concept of 5000 separate streaming services is just another failure waiting to happen. In my opinion of course

zslane got a reaction from massey in Poisons and Saving Throws
Poisons also have different effects. They attack the body differently, and part of the difficulty in treating a poison (or venom) in real life is knowing which one has been introduced to the system, because the antidote is often highly specific to the toxin. Thus, in Hero Terms, a defense against the effects of a poison will depend highly on its effects. However, it would be reasonable to assume that all real world poisons have AVAD vs. CON and are NND with the common defense being the appropriate Life Support. But as massey points out, magical poisons or "epic" poisons (those paid for with points by the creature/villain) aren't affected by Life Support (as a defense) unless specifically built into them as a Limitation.
Saving throws are perhaps best modeled as Limitations on attacks/spells/whatever that say something like, "Only delivers half damage if target makes successful CON roll," and so forth.

zslane got a reaction from Pariah in The Umbrella Academy Characters Thread
Klaus from the comics has limited Flight (he can levitate), Telekinesis (it is how they explain his limited flight), and a pretty large AoE Energy Blast to represent his ability to "manifest" spirits through his body which can lash out and attack in an area around him.
Five also has Multidimensional Travel (time travel).
Vanya can focus her TK into what might be described as an intense RKA. Her TK could probably also be used as a Force Wall around herself. As to what she did to the moon, well, that is pure Plot Device Power dictated by the script (GM fiat).

Nor am I. I have the same "I just wonder how long..." general curiosity that you have.

zslane got a reaction from Spence in Marvel Cinematic Universe, Phase Three and BEYOOOOONND
Yeah, I wonder this too. I see a great reckoning coming in which all the studios and networks learn that nobody wants to pay $10-15/month for each and every one of their streaming channels and so they ultimately end up signing contracts with aggregators like Netflix and Hulu again. I think it will take a few years for this to happen though.
