It's weird if you start naming them.

I'd like you to meet my floor, Flora, and my wall, Wally. Up there is Celia, my ceiling, and past her is Rufus, the roof. And of course here is my window, Wendy, and Dora, my door.

And I'm sure you've met my palindromedary

Chessex also makes MondoMats which are 48" x 96".  I have occasionally fantasized about buying 8 and laying out a truly EPIC battle map!  Using 1"= 2m, you could have a 384m x 384m map, roughly 20+ city blocks in size.

I'm loving the folks chiming in with statements of the movie not being even close to the book....that they haven't read.  Joust?  Yeah, that's a major thing in the book (slikmar's been through that part already).  Movie references?  Yup, those too.

I've read the book.  It was fun.  It was chock full of pop culture references (as noted)...kinda its thing.  The trailers thus far are looking to be following the book pretty closely.  I haven't seen anything in them that I don't recall from the book, at least....and without seeing the movie, it's impossible to say how much from the book hasn't made it into the movie.

I've suddenly started getting ads on FB for earthworm jerky.

I have no idea what it is in my profile that would have made someone (or some algorithm) say "this guy wants earthworm jerky"....but I'm also horribly intrigued.

My usernamesake, Boll Weevil was based on Howling Mad Murdock from The A Team. That show started in 1983 when I first started playing Champions. Who knew ol' BW would be around longer than the biggest show on TV.

    I recommend 2 dimensions
1 or less is not very useful
3 or more is too bulky

That would depend on what you use the battlemat for.  If you use knockback, routinely use fast movement (over 20m per phase) or extended range firefights, I would suggest 1"=2m.  If you use knockdown and have relatively slow moving firefights, 1"=1m would be fine.

Edit: Another nice note, at the 1"=1m, you can use ready made drafting stencils for furniture, trees, generic shapes found in most drafting stores (I've found them in Office Depot, Office Max, Staples, etc.)

You might also look into DramaScape maps.  You can print them out and 'tape' them together using a regular B&W printer or color printer.  If you think you will use them over and over again then printing them onto card stock and using 'self-laminating' material is useful

if you're going hexless, then 2m to the inch is a pretty common scale and equivalent to Hero's historic scale of 2m per hex.

By that measurement, 48 inches would get you 96 meters (slightly longer than a football field at 105 yards).  36 inches would be 72 meter (!79 yards).

The 2m per 1" hex scale is related to 25mm miniatures, the most common at the time. This is the scale used by early superhero miniatures and things like the old Steve Jackson Games Cardboard Heroes.

Since then, 28mm miniatures have become popular, mainly because of Warhammer. The slightly bigger scale allows more cinematic sculpting. They would work with the same scale as 25mm minis, although you visually probably wouldn't want to mix them. I don't know if there are superhero minis available at this scale, but nearly every other genre is well represented.

Heroclix are roughly within this scale range too.

The thing is that it's not necessary for the scale of minis to match the map scale. The minis are, after all, essentially just aesthetically pleasing markers. You could just as easily use a piece of paper.

So with or without minis, you can use any scale you find convenient and visually pleasing.

Boll Weevil reacted to Steve in Dr. Destroyer takes over Cuba
In my Champions campaign, Dr. Destroyer has taken over the country of Cuba, crushing any military forces or superhumans that attempt to oppose his rule. He took advantage of a power vacuum caused by a massive invasion of Earth by Empress V’Han that ended up in failure, and one of her warships detonated over Havana, destroying a large swath of the city, giving him a window of opportunity to seize power while the country was leaderless.

However, instead of instituting the brutal tyranny that most would have expected from him, over the course of the following days and weeks, he begins his rule by utilizing his technology to provide seemingly endless amounts of food and medicines to the Cuban people as he institutes a more benevolent form of dictatorship. His soldiers, robots and superhuman assets quickly become familiar sights in towns across Cuba, providing security and dealing forcefully with criminal activity.

His actions have left many in the world confused as to what he has in mind. Some are wondering if this is actually an alternate reality refugee from the invasion instead of the Dr. Destroyer that has terrorized the world for decades.

What other actions might he take as part of his rule? How might other countries react to Dr. Destroyer in charge of a nation?

This project is an extension of an export template I wrote a few months ago.  I had so much fun writing that template that I decided to develop a full app.

    Features
Import characters from Hero Designer using this export template Characteristics and Skills may be long pressed and a check will be made Dice rolling tools (3d6, Hit, Damage, and Free Form)  The H.E.R.O. tool generates random 250 point 5e supers (shout out to Cassandra for allowing me to use her original idea) Track statistics about your die rolls, including average values, distribution, total stun etc.
This is still very much a work in progress and I have plans to add more features as time goes on.  For now though I feel that it’s mature enough to release to the general public.

That's how I started with Champions, me and my best friend back in '82.  We played like that for a couple of years.  At one point we pulled my then-wife into it but she wasn't a comic book fan nor a gamer so she was terrible.

It works pretty well, we had a ton o' fun.  I actually miss it sometimes, I haven't run a group with fewer than four players since the early '90s.

Essentially what steriaca says above, but for my part I particularly want the rest of the official Champions Universe fleshed out with all the books that were planned. But by all means, bring out everything announced on all the past planned publication schedules.

How did you come up with your 'handle' (forum name)?
-Boll Weevil is one of my first Champions characters, a not-based-on-anyone character that can cling to walls and shoot webs that catch thieves just like flies.
I have been on the boards here since 2000. I lurk frequently but haven't posted much lately.

What was the first tabletop RPG you played?
    D&D boxed set in 1981.

What was the first tabletop RPG you GMed?
Champions. I think my first real game other than combat on the included map (with Rosie's Diner!) was the Target Hero supplement. I've never been great at GMing, to be honest, but many times it was the only way to get my friends to play.

    What are you currently playing/GMing?
Nothing currently. My local gaming group broke up years ago and I haven't played since the demise of Hero Central.
