I have stood up a new Discord Server called Hero-Champions-RPG.

You can join with this (permanent) link -->  Hero-Champions-RPG

    Goals:
A discord server focused on the HERO RPG and genre books; past, present and future. A place where folks can schedule and run online discord games. A place where HERO can announce new releases. A place where 3rd Party Publishers can announce new releases. A place where people can share or announce Kickstarter projects relevant to HERO gamers. A discord server that comes up in searches, focused on this awesome RPG!
Let me know if you want to be a Mod! I'm happy to add any HERO games peeps as Admins as well (obviously).

Yes, lots of room, and there's been some good discussions on the discord thus far!

Giving this thread a bump so perhaps more people will do as many of us now do - participate in both these forums AND the Discord.

Jump in folks, the water's fine!

Not to rain too much on the parade here...

Those last two posts are SUPER sexist. The easily parsed message from between those lines is a) wives should provide more snacks for their husbands and b) hot women are something to snack on. It's like everything you were afraid of seeing in the Man-Cave RPG Den on full display.

Do we really want HERO Games (and this community... and the RPG...) construed as the misogynist haven of RPG-land?

Here in the 21st century we also don't put naked pin-ups in the locker-room or slap our female co-workers on the hiney as a form of "good morning". I suggest we update our perspective.

    Sincerely.

I would say that the majority of people who prefer Story Games have seriously backed away from this stance. I also find these days that people are more likely to play both traditional and story games. I believe the worst of this superiority complex is behind us. I suggest forgiving the overly-enthusiast and focusing on what you like.

Two days ago, on a different forum, there was a discussion about Story Games and whether it was possible to "lose" in a Story Game.  The Story Gamers in the thread were simultaneously trying to argue that the "success with complications" was both "losing" and that it was what makes Story Games rewarding to play.  I pointed out that defining the same thing as both "losing" and "what makes the game rewarding to play" was self-contradicting unless you're some kind of masochist -- nobody plays a game hoping to lose.

This was a pretty devastating counterargument that demolished the argument they were making, so I was then told that I was "basically confessing that I  can't contribute anything interesting to a narrative" and that I had never "played any game with an actually good group."  Those are direct quotes.  And the a-holes honestly thought they weren't being insulting and condescending.

I have never had a pleasant encounter with Story Gamers.  As soon as I tell them that I enjoy all aspects of gaming (gamist, narrativist and simulationist) and want a game that provides a balance of each, and that I find Story Games's narrow focus on narrative only removes enjoyable aspects of gaming while highlighting the fundamental flaw of narrative in games (i.e. most gamers are not great storytellers, and a randomly generated narrative constructed by a committee of mediocre storytellers tends to be bad), the only response I ever get is being told I am essentially a witless dullard and that every single person I have ever gamed with is also a witless dullard, with the strong implication that the story gamers are all brilliant storytellers who effortlessly craft griping narratives (and yet none can point to the popular works of fiction derived from Story Game sessions...) and only know other genius intellects such as themselves.  I don't think they are capable of not being condescending assholes.

    Discord is super popular!

When I went to look for a Discord server for HERO I found a small server focused on a superhero setting that discussed a bunch of RPGs. Not exactly HERO-related. Having a Twitter account doesn't mean I hate Facebook. I use a bunch of different social media platforms. I feel like the goal here is to meet people where they are at. It doesn't hurt to have a presence on every platform. Did you know there is a /r/Champions and /r/herosystem Reddit forums? A Facebook fangroup?

To wit: when I upload something to the downloads here, I link to it in other places - to encourage people to come look here! The goal is to generate buzz, find people where they are at and then share stuff with those interested. One of the big issues with non-current-D&D RPGs is keeping the presence up to those looking for something else. I believe having a Discord server could help on that front. Think of it as screaming into the room from under the 800lb gorilla...

I added the form fill character sheet!

Also, removed the "embellishments" behind the logo. I thought they were distracting. Fixed a small type on sheet 3. Both files are updated and on v1.0.2.

So the company rebooting BESM (uses the tri-stat system) is planning to have the Tri-Stat Emporium section on DriveThruRPG — a community content program that allows you to create and sell your own BESM and Tri-Stat content (similar to the Storytellers Vault and Dungeon Masters Guild).

    Hi.

I like in Kirkland. I've been interested in HERO for a while, to the point where I recently (yesterday) started a 6E superhero campaign, but I can't fully say that I know what I'm doing or that I know the system. That said, I've always enjoyed playing it at conventions, so I figured why not.

I'd really like to start another game to get a good handle on the system, so I'd be down to play if anyone needs an extra player.

That said, I'm also a member of the Verne and Wells Club in Kirkland, which is kind of like a Boys and Girls Club for adults. That means that if need be I can reserve rooms where we can play the game, that sort of thing. Or I'm down to show up to a game store or something like that, too.

On the other hand, the less derived information on the sheet, the more you're forcing the player to stop and derive information in the middle of play.
