Hermit got a reaction from Badger in It's time for Christmas.....
Bahoo boray bay hoo.. oh god, it got Murray!
Murray Who?
Who else?!
It'll bite off your button hooks, it'll savage your nose! It'll snap you up faster than a winter does a rose! Get your kids all to safety, warn all the wives! The Hippo is coming! It'll eat you alive!
And on that bloody Christmas, a message was sent, Hippos are dangerous- One hundred percent

Well, we do worship that jewish hippie rabbi who said to pay your taxes and a few coins from a poor person was more than many coins from a loaded rich guy. Shoot, guy went out healing the sick for FREE..... and encouraged his followers to tend to the ill and poor and prisoners and stuff... we are talking non secular commie talk here!
Won't somebody please think of the wealthy? It's so HARD to shove that camel through that needle

Not only does BMI completely fail to account for variations in lean muscle mass and differences in build, it is also biased against tall people: it measures mass divided by height squared, when (proportions being equal) mass should track with height cubed. Also, because of the square-cube law, taller people need to have proportionally thicker limbs to maintain the same strength to weight ratio. With a height of 6' 4", I don't think I could get down to a "normal" BMI without looking kind of scrawny . . . and BMI says I'd have to get down to 151 pounds before I'd be considered "underweight". That's absurd.

Now real-life hippopotamuses are about the orneriest most dangerous beasts you can imagine. So I suspect the hippo hero is standing in for something else, but I'm not going to be the one to say what.

Hermit reacted to Lord Liaden in The Turakian Age is Seriously Underrated
I've noted that some people consider the default start date for a Turakian Age campaign to be a time of relative stability, but in reading through the text, you find that that's just on the surface. Many regions of the world are facing or about to face explosions: numerous nations girding for war as ambitious rulers make plans of conquest; religious, social and ethnic resentments threatening to boil over, leading to revolution or civil war; the ruling order in a precarious position, or already usurped; lurking menaces about to reveal themselves or become more active.
Granted, some of this is attributed to Kal-Turak stirring things up in preparation for his big Ka-Boom! But as I described earlier on this thread, you don't really need the Ravager of Men to run all those smaller ka-booms.

Hermit got a reaction from Cancer in The 2020 Superdraft Thread
Thinking of the Cast Your Fantasy Kingdoms Superdraft where you have such positions as King, Queen, Prince or Princess, of course...
but also 'Kingdom's most powerful wizard'
'High Priest of biggest religion'
Monster that threatens entire kingdom (Dragon etc)
Greatest Knight in all the land
and so on (obviously I Need to work on the details)
And with each day of the draft you pick what actor (Alive or dead) you would cast in said role. Want John Candy as the evil queen? Why not! Henry Morgan as your Merlin stand in? SURE.

NI has elected more nationalist politicians than unionist ones for the first time ever.
The DUP has lost all its leverage over the Government and they are going to have to beg Johnson to support their position in their Assembly (if it ever gets re-established).
I think both Scotland and Northern Ireland have a right good chance of having independence votes in the next Parliament, especially if Brexit is going badly.

Hermit reacted to Michael Hopcroft in RIP: Gone to the Great Link-Rene Auberjonois
There was a moment in the first season of DS9 where Odo had found the effort to find the Changeling world he had been brought into had failed. (it was in the episode "Vortex" if you want to look it up). At the end of the episode, Rene looked into the camera, though the prosthetics that hid virtually his entire face, and uttered four words that broke my heart.
"Home. Where is it?"
Deprived of his ability to use facial expressions and the language cues that went with them, he was still able to powerfully move me (and probably many other viewers) with Odo's sense of longing and loss. That is the mark of a great craftsman.

If Doc Democracy or I start cursing or getting upset You'll know it is the election that has caused it,.
I voted and helped take mum to vote. Had to walk the wheelchair down the hill as it would not go in the car but was able to wheel mum in and out of the polling station.
