  3. Re: The "Nice Happy" Thread The one good thing about not having someone else who does my job is that I don't have to coordinate my leave schedule to accomodate them. So I think I'll take off early on Friday. Not to do anything special.... Just to not be here. And what's better than being paid but not being here?
  4. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Banquet - Bloc Party
  5. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Show No Mercy - Slayer (played so low I can barely hear it Dang open cubical. I need an office.)
  6. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Steady On - Shawn Colvin
  7. Re: Villain SIDs Bast v. The State of Georgia and Empire v. FBI, Bill Clinton, et al. are the cases on point. The former held that a captured criminal on trial for a crime may not have his/her identity revealed unless it bears directly on the crime itself (In this case, the fact that Bast's normal ID was a humane society worker obsessed with felines was proven to be part of the motivation for the crime in question). Once convicted of a felony, such IDs are public record. The latter ruled that if someone is reasonably believed to be a wanted supervillain the police and other authorities may publish their name and likeness as part of the manhunt, but it does not adjoin them from being sued for defamation later on in the event that said villain does not turn out to be said individual. Therefore the Gov is very careful about whose name they reveal and typicall don't do so until there's a conviction or they are virtually certain of someone's identity. There's also Phobos v. Phoenix P.D., a civil case in which the Phoenix Police Department were proven to have attempted to plant evidence on the hero Phobos so that they could photograph and track him, as was a practice with all masked "vigilantes" of the area. Phobos won, the Police Commisioner was ousted, and Phobos had to adopt a new heroic ID. Note also that this caused the Police Commissioner to become the villainous "Magistrate", a villain who hunts down lone heroes and exposes them.
  8. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... We're polishing up our characters for the first session of a campaign. The room grows silent for a moment. Then... GM: "Jim, do you prefer the ability to do damage to faeries or the ability to see like a spider." [pause while everyone looks at each other in disbelief at the sudden obtuse question] [laughter] Me: "Well, I'm not Jim, but what I chose when I was filling out my online dating form..." [more laughter]
  9. Re: C25 Island of Dr. Destroyer: Official? I've got mine, so I'm happy as a clam, or other mollusk of pleasant disposition. But I suspect the "Where's my book!" thing comes from not knowing how much time and care went into shipping them individually, and therefore they weren't all going to go out in one day. Double-boxing these seemed like overkill, but then I remembered how much I paid
  10. Re: C25 Island of Dr. Destroyer: Official? Yup. This wasn't about profit. This was about celebrating an anniversary. I know I bought it knowing that it let me into a special club of sorts; Folks rabid enough to need a $100 edition of the books, and who will get the writer/designer/editor/playtester stories and the adventure while those less crazed will just sit back and complain. I am hero geek, hear me roar.
  11. Re: Champions universe created by magic? Too broad a category. It's like saying 'Negate Powers'. That includes way too many things.
  12. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Mojo - Peeping Tom (Mike Patton rules!)
  13. Re: C25 Island of Dr. Destroyer: Official? C25 is what I've seen used. Line Editor Steve will likely have to answer that. So... Bump!
  14. Re: WWYCD: Quantum Leap Hehe. Indeed I did. Don't worry, he's smater (and types better) than I do. Rep goes to Marketeer though for coming up with the equivalent of the Marvel "No-Prize".
  15. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Just Another Day - Oingo Boingo
  16. Re: Champs 25ths Now At Tina's You know that to those of us who asked for the signatures these posts are just teasing. Merciless, cruel, teasing. I mean, two weeks ago I was in the same state with my book. Now it had to go back to Steve and be sent back again. During all that traveling the mailman has more opportunity to figure out what heroic goodness he holds and can steal it for himself.
  17. Re: WWYCD: Quantum Leap Anthem would head back to prevent the demise of her best friend and fellow hero, Aces High. During said encounter she'd discover that Anthem's own father (a minor supervillain) was responsible for the girl's death. The scenario would end up putting her Code vs. Killing to the ultimate test, having the horrible choice: Kill him or let her friend die. She'd break her CvK, and probably end up retiring as a hero once she returned to her own time (If the ripples of her actions don't do something to change her in other ways). Uncle Slam would prevent the death of Arch-Duke Ferdinand, thus pre-empting WW II. The war would happen anyway, but later and for other reasons. Then he'd have to find a way to go back in time to stop himself Audra blue would go back to the night that her mentor and father figure, Nolan Brisbain, died in his sleep. She'd be ready with all kinds of means of reviving him. His life would turn around; He'd become focused again and set to fixing all the things that had gone wrong to that point. He'd recreate the Sentinels team himself. Audra would never develop her agoraphobia. She'd develop a power-suit to go out and fight alongside the others. The campaign would look completely different.
  18. Re: Steve's Chat Tonight (Thursday, Aug. 17) Post-Convention chats are always the best. Like the conventions themselves, you see people you haven't seen in months.
  19. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Ordinary World - Duran Duran
  20. Re: The Champion Protocols (ie how to take down your character) Anthem has trouble with high-STR opponents and massive entangles. She has no special life support so NNDs often get through. Someone with really high DEF could probably ignore her all day until she's out of END. Uncle Slam has the least vulnerabilities of any character I've ever played or run. Experience points have been kind to him. His only weekness is the same for all my characters: Their unwilingness to sacrifice bystanders and civilians. He can be manipulated through strategic use of hostages. But there's no specific weakness he has that can be exploited; You've just got to beat him straight up. Audra Blue has a serious (possibly lethal) vulnerability to electricity, as she's got a number of cybernetics it interferes with and impairs.
  21. Re: WWYCD: The Champion Protocols Anthem would change identities, assuming an new and unrecognizable costume to confuse the villains. They would have difficulty knowing what counter to use on her. Hopefully she'd take them down while they were in that state of confusion. Uncle Slam would bait a trap. Even with equipment for specifically defeating heroes they can't account for a mass encounter. So he'd be certain that when they moved on him there were dozens upon dozens of heroes available to haul in the bad guys. He's got that kind of pull.
  22. Re: Batman vs Midnighter Necromancer! Quick, bury this thread before anyone notices and starts up again!
  23. Re: What Are You Listening To Right Now? Snakes On A Plane - Cobra Starship. This may be the cheesiest, catchiest thing I've heard this year. How movie-appripriate!
  24. Re: WWYCD: The Crossover from H E Double-hockey-stick Once I eliminate Buffy and Angel, my favorite shows are House, Saved, Monk, Lost, (Heck, any show with one word in the title ) and they're all too easy for heroes to handle. Okay.... let's try this.... "Putting aside that this is all conjecture and theory with no real evidence, let's say I believe you. Why come to me? I'm the symbol of a government you obviously seem to distrust." Uncle Slam sat squarely behind the desk, symetrically, almost as if someone had measured to make sure he was centered perfectly. His beard immaculate, his pleats sharp. Fox considered for a moment that the man might be right. Maybe trusting him was simply a form of idol worship. Maybe he just wanted to think that at the heart of things there were still those willing to fight the good fight for the right reason. But it all boiled down to one simple truth... "I don't have any other choice. This conspiracy has abducted a number of superheroes so they can infuse their DNA with that of aliens to make something not only unspeakable, but unbelievably powerful." Uncle Slam considered them both; The dark haired man whose file spoke of the nickname "spooky" and the beautiful red-head scientist whom he'd met yesterday before her disappearance. He then rose from his chair and turned, placing his hand on the glass of the cabinet behind his desk, which then scanned it and opened with a hiss. He removed a pair of ornate pistols, some lightweight armor and a few other pieces of equipment and handed it to Agent Mulder. "The way I'm going in, you'll need these." The FBI agent equipped himself, inadvertently grinning at the prospect of being a superhero. As for Uncle Slam, he only put into place his trademark tophat, and the two heroes began to discuss entry strategy for the secret base in the frozen north. (Next Epsiode of the X-Files: Anthem confronts the Fluke-man!)
