I had the pleasure of being a member of a table last month that Penemue ran.  The game was fast and fun playing with a lot of laughs.

Highly recommend that you check the game out.

Sounds fun... and familiar. Back in the day, in my long running campaign, one of the spin-off campaigns (run by long term player and artist Storn Cook) did something similar. It jumped ahead a decade or so, using the Millennium City concept as an "alternative future" to the main campaign. We played supers trying to re-establish a tradition that had been gutted by the events that destroyed New York (not Detroit in this case) and most supers, etc. Lots of cyberpunk, mecha, corporate rule, concepts, with metas trying to re-establish the idea of "hero's who were descendents of characters in our main game.

Good times... so good luck with your game. And kid gloves aren't as necessary as truth... let players know that initial threats and challenges are simple and they are expected to win... and let the players know when the stakes increase and the chance for failure is real. Metagaming is not a bad thing. There are specific times when I say, "Ok... all die rolls are in the open, and if they go against you... them's the breaks. It is bad-things-happen time!" and everyone is good to go.

Well, there's this thread I started in the Looking For Player section that has a bit of background info.

Essentially, I want to take Millennium City as it's currently written (circa 2003-ish) and darken it way up so that it's a cyberpunk-lite dystopian city in 2018.  I say lite because I don't want the emphasis to be on hacking and technology as much as a pure cyberpunk game would normally be but I still want the crime, gangs, and mega-corps though...that's just good fun

I think it'll be fun, in my head it's basically mashing Batman Begins and Blade Runner together or I suppose Batman Beyond would be an analogous setting just not as far into the future.

I have a couple of brand new players at the table so I'm just hoping I don't screw it up for them.  I know I'll need to be in teaching mode for the first little while so the kid gloves will need to be on but I fully expect to bloody them up once we get going.

How did you come up with your 'handle' (forum name)? it was the name of a Champions: New Millennium character that I made What was the first tabletop RPG you played? Darksword Adventures, a relatively obscure RPG by Margaret Weis  (Author), Tracy Hickman (Author) What was the first tabletop RPG you GMed? 2nd Edition AD&D What are you currently playing/GMing? starting a new street level Champions game this weekend When did you start to play Hero? it was the 90s, BBB, leather pants, angsty music...a different time

It is with great sadness that I announce my good friend, David Stevens, aka Hyper-man passed away last week. He fought a courageous battle against brain cancer.   He was a Huge fan of the Hero System, and has a very impressive collection of products he was very proud of.

One of the last things we talked about was his collection, and his wishes for it.   It is literally only a couple of books short of having Every product printed for the Hero system, including Kickstarters.  He really wanted to try to keep the collection together.

    I'm interested in everyone's opinions,
Do you think anyone would be interested in purchasing such a large collection?
I could bring it to Gencon and try there, but am not willing to let it go for pennies on the dollar.
Would EBAY be the best way to try to sell?

Any other unique ideas on what to do with the collection?  (Doesn't have to be sold)

    Thanks !

That's very, very sad.  He was such an enthusiastic and warm personality...he will be missed.

My suggestion; auction the collection off on e-bay or some other auction site and donate the money to a charity in his name.

Ha, well another way to build the character...
Use ""Only in Alternate ID" on your powers/characteristics to represent your second form Buy Instant Change as described earlier Buy Psy Lims to mimic the fact that there's 2 distinct personalities I kinda feel like Multiform is a cleaner (and arguably more appropriate) way to do it but the munchkin in me knows that this way would be cheaper

This project is an extension of an export template I wrote a few months ago.  I had so much fun writing that template that I decided to develop a full app.

    Features
Import characters from Hero Designer using this export template Characteristics and Skills may be long pressed and a check will be made Dice rolling tools (3d6, Hit, Damage, and Free Form)  The H.E.R.O. tool generates random 250 point 5e supers (shout out to Cassandra for allowing me to use her original idea) Track statistics about your die rolls, including average values, distribution, total stun etc.
This is still very much a work in progress and I have plans to add more features as time goes on.  For now though I feel that it’s mature enough to release to the general public.

Feedback is always welcome either here or at phil.guinchard@gmail.com

    Happy Hero-ing

You could always hand out a couple of on-the-spot HAPs if you use them.  I doubt good roleplayers would care about HAPs or any other incentive...they don't need an excuse to roleplay, just an opportunity.

Roleplaying opportunities can be tough to engineer in some groups but you can stack the deck in it's favor if you know the characters Psy Lims.  Complications in general are a goldmine in terms of understanding what types of situations you could setup to encourage roleplaying.  It's a little sadistic but I like finding conflicting Psy Lims on players and putting them in a situation that will provoke conflict between them...it has led to some great roleplaying in groups I've been in.

Edit: I should point out that don't set the players against one another unless you're absolutely sure they're mature enough to handle it

Hah...yeah that group is for a campaign one-shot I'm planning on running at a mini-con...they would get stomped by a mentalist for sure.  They're not "serious" characters per si they're for a very specific purpose so I skimped in some places and took some liberties with some balance choices (ie. the 17 die attack on the brick).  My main goal with them is that they're simple to pick up and use and just fun to play...this mini-con is classically dominated by 5e D&D so I'm assuming the players will not be experienced players...hopefully I'm wrong!

I'm also taking the opportunity to switch to 6th so there's a lot of learning and experimentation going on for me right now.  I'm using this as an opportunity to question everything I think I know and trying to approach the switch to 6th with equanimity.  This is actually where this whole "Rule of X" experiment was birthed from for me.

Anyways, I appreciate your feedback on Martial Artists and will have to do some thinking on how to handle it fairly.
