    0.0075 * 330 million = 2.475 million by today's standards.

There was already about 101 million during the 1917s from what I saw, and it killed roughly 750k, give or take.  So any number beyond 3 times that is unlikely.

    1916 101,961,000 1.41%

Guys - we're lapsing into the political again.

I know that it's hard to keep politics out of a discussion of COVID-19, but posts that are primarily (or even pointedly) about politics need to be made in the political discussion thread. I want to keep this thread open, but will need to close it or start issuing infractions if the political posts continue.
  3. Thanks

Yes! They strap me to a slab ( down in the lab) and point a linear accelerator at my neck. To hold me down juuuuust right they made a nifty mask of my face that bolts to the slab. It has a mouth guard in it to keep my jaw extended away from the danger zone as much as possible. The doc has programmed the accelerator to aim at exactly the right spots on my neck. (You can see three cross hairs on my neck in the photo - the computer uses those to line up the linear accelerator’s aim.). The inflammation of the non- cancerous tissues is used to squeeze the tumor into the line of fire. The whole thing is really cool, aside from the throat cancer part.

He had a felony arrest warrant out for 3rd degree sexual assault.  There were a couple of misdemeanors on that arrest warrant as well (trespass and domestic violence).

Forbes has an article that very nicely summarizes key points. ( LINK )
Officers were dispatched to the scene in response to a female caller reporting that her boyfriend was present and wasn’t supposed to be on the property, investigators say; lawyers for Blake’s family say he was “breaking up a fight between two women.” Court records show Blake was charged with third-degree sexual assault, criminal trespassing and disorderly conduct related to domestic abuse on July 6. Investigators say the officers attempted to arrest Blake using a taser, but were unsuccessful. When Blake then walked around his car, opened the driver’s side door and leaned forward, Sheskey grabbed onto Blake’s shirt and fired seven times into his back, investigators say. A NewsWeek article has an eye witness (Raysean White) saying they heard the police shouting "Drop the knife!" before shooting him, but that he didn't see the knife himself.  The same witness said there was more fighting with police prior to the recordings starting.  They had wrestled him to the ground, punched him and tried to tase him.

If several police officers have taken you to the ground and tried to taser you - breaking loose to go for the knife in your car cannot be expected to end well.

I do blame the police department to a degree for not having officers more competent in CQB techniques.  He should never have been able to get to his feet with multiple officers trying to hold him down.  That's just a lack of physicality and skill which training would remedy.

This is my main issue with this shooting: The police officers had ample opportunity to attempt to re-engage him with less lethal means. The "victim" does seem to have set himself up to be shot, because he was trying to avoid going to jail on a felony warrant.

Blake admits he had a knife.

Police have found that knife and have it in evidence.

During the MSNBC convention coverage last night, the anchor repeatedly said that the knife was in the driver's side floorboard, which was the area Blake was leaning toward when he opened the car door. I didn't immediately find a news article which stated the exact location of the knife.

"Blake had a warrant issued for his arrest after he was charged with third-degree sexual assault, trespassing and disorderly conduct in connection with domestic abuse in July."

At the time of the shooting, "officers arrived at the residence after a woman called police and said her boyfriend "was present and was not supposed to be on the premises."

Third degree sexual assault is defined in the law of that state as being "Whoever has sexual intercourse with a person without the consent of that person".

There are no other possible violations under their law which could be classified as third degree sexual assault.

Most people speaking casually of that offense would refer to it as "rape". And apparently from the context of the story, Blake had returned to the home of the woman who he'd raped.

In fairness to DC what the MCU accomplished over a 10 year arc was something so amazing I can't believe they pulled it off.  I'm watching the movies from the beginning again and there are significant bits that get incorporated all the way to the end.

MCU has set a stupidly high bar.  One I don't expect to get surpassed in my lifetime.

Would it? You’d really only have to get away with ballot stuffing in a few key counties in certain battleground states. If you have a crony running the Post Office it’d be even easier.

You might be surprised. From what I have gathered they looked idiots with gun safety. But the fact, a lot of people were disturbed by the fact the incident was necessary in the first.  I feel the protests are going to hurt the Dems, at least in the fact they have avoided the issue of the more unsavory things that happened. I think they were actually making some headway with gun control among the public....

This is a very good point, and 100% correct. No matter who you are, if you went south of the border for appetizers (or dessert I guess... de gustibus non disputandum and all that...) and the HPV Vaccine was not part of your life, just keep an eye on your throat. That persistent tonsillitis that doesn’t hurt? Those stanky tonsoliths that seem terribly large? They way you snore even when you aren’t large enough that one might expect snoring? Keep an eye out. It’s PROBABLY nothing. But only probably.

I'm starting to believe social distancing and hand washing are the most useful elements of prevention as improper mask usage is about 60-70% of the people I run into in retail environments.

Firstly, sorry to hear that you caught this crud.  Best of luck in the battle you're in.  I'm seriously wishing some natural 3s into your dice rolls.

With absolute respect to people who identify differently than their biology would suggest - don't let that influence your medical decisions.  Mother nature is an absolute uncaring brute and your biological gender/race absolutely make a big difference in prevalence of certain ailments and treatment options.  I sadly know from first hand experience nearly getting my guts opened up by my young Japanese surgeon in Hawaii because he hadn't had enough haole (white - in this case Scottish) patients to realize my apparent appendicitis would, in fact, be more likely Crohn's or IBS and easily handled with a short course of anti-inflammatory's.  25 years later I still have my perfectly well-behaved appendix.

Also, thanks for posting in attempt to help others while you're critically ill - that's real heroism.  We need more people like that.  Like you.

Bluesguy they changed Stun damage with Killing Damage. You now get your PD versus Stun damage with Killing attacks however if you natural PD is higher  than the Stun rolled you take a minimum of Stun equal to Body rolled.
