  1. Re: How many Combat Luck for Mousquetaires ? This was my "musketeer" build, if it helps. This may be a different direction than the one you're going with, but he was insanely effective and built on a similar point-scale. Also he's speed 3. It didn't get in the way. Also, for FH, I tend to not allow more than one level of Combat Luck. That's probably just me though.
  2. Re: battle Wear vs. Town Wear I tend to play no-armor characters but whenever we start a game in a city my first question is "What's the socially acceptable level of personal armament." I'm not looking for trouble, but trouble tends to find PCs and I want my rapier/shortsword/handaxes (whatever the case may be) at my hip just in case! That being said, if I have a sword on and I get into a fight at the local inn, it's gonna be a fistfight until escalation seems necessary. It seems silly to "Have at thee!" every time someone pushes you when you say something brash, not to mention the trouble that murder tends to bring in civilization. Besides, fistfights are fun!
  3. Re: Anyone ever run a campaign with *really* young kids? This won't be as helpful as the Palindromedary Express, but I suggest using this (fantastic) opportunity to hone your improvisational GM skills. Also I was homeschooled through everything past 1st grade, and the most beneficial thing about it was how involved my parents were. This is a great thing you are doing for your children.
  4. Re: Guns, guns, and more guns Run him in a Heroic game and buy 10 points of Wealth?
  5. Re: Ran my first hero system game yesterday. I believe Trip and one other maneuver are now standard on the list (maybe Shove?).
  6. Re: Hero System Good Idea/Bad Idea... The best part of this thread is the comments on what people write. You just epitomized that.
  7. Re: Urban Fantasy Setting: Here There Be Monsters Oh! In that case: Good build.
  8. Re: Urban Fantasy Setting: Here There Be Monsters Panpiper: Your "Really Tough" and "Only A Flesh Wound" seem to be slightly odd to me. OAFW doesn't protect against the first point of body, but Really Tough, which is 1 resistant PD/ED, would protect against it, making the Limitation not limiting. What am I missing?
  9. Re: Hero System Good Idea/Bad Idea... Good idea: Corsair Hero: Pillage or die trying! Bad idea: Coarse Hair Hero: Moisturize or die trying!
  10. Re: Need list of Character builds as campaign exemplars I never want to fight that troll ever. Ever.
  11. Re: Fantasy or Pulp? I suppose my experience with Holmes is rudimentary at best. I guess when I think of mystery I tend to just group it in with pulp. More evidence of the genre being elbow deep in everything (or in nothing, as the discussion goes). I'm gonna go read more Doyle.
  12. Re: Fantasy or Pulp? Not to be argumentative or beat a dead horse, but what about Sherlock Holmes isn't pulpy?
  13. Re: Fantasy or Pulp? Similar to what Rex said: I usually consider Pulp more of an aesthetic than a genre. I tend to do the same thing with Steampunk. They have their little intricacies, and everyone tends to know what you're talking about when you say Pulp or Steampunk, but the lines are blurry.
  14. Re: Fantasy or Pulp? Fantasy/Pulp.
  15. Re: On the Willful Killing and Maiming of NPCs I've been keeping tabs on this thread, and I just wanted to let the OP know that this is the best thread in the Champs forum in a while (IMO, obviously). Scenarios like the one you're orchestrating make me want to GM or play in the Champions genre. Well done sir, and rep.
  16. Re: Dragon-riders of Pern Aw man I completely forgot about this series! I read a bunch of these books 5+ years ago but I remember them being very setting oriented, which would make statting everything out a breeze. If only I remembered enough to take part in this grande olde conteste. Maybe I'll pick these up again over winter break...
  17. Re: Dr Hank Pym (Marvel) Less of a nitpick and more of a lack of knowledge on my part, but why is his Growth/Shrink multipower keyed in with multi-slots instead of ultra-slots? I am probably wrong, but I find it hard to visualize splitting multipower points to grow and shrink at the same time...
  18. Re: Density Dilemma!!! Yes yes and yes. Buy the desolid separately so that you can stretch and use desolid at the same time.
  19. Re: I'm building a gold dragon on 350 points Update: All of the weapons based martial arts in the UMA (fencing, kenjutsu, etc) have the note "Used with Blades Weapons Group; Blades Weapon Element is free." (Not all of the armed ones say blades, but fencing and kenjutsu do, you get the picture.) Some arts that have that "free" weapon element will then pay +1 points to use the art barehanded. Check with your GM, but that leads me to believe you can buy your dragon martial art with the teeth weapon element for free as needed.
  20. Re: Solo PbM game: Help!! My old GM told me a story about a solo game he ran with one of his long-time players. Apparently they had been running a long fantasy game, then all the other players moved away. The GM and player continued gaming by running a solo campaign that was a comprehensive account of the PCs backstory. The two friends got to continue gaming, and the player really got a handle on where his character came from and why they acted the way they did. I don't know what kind of game you ran before, and it seems you've settled on genre and game-type, but I thought I'd toss this in there because I thought it was really cool.
  21. Re: Package Deals? I really like using Templates as impromptu NPC character sheets. Oh, this guy got talked into tagging along and needs to make an X skill roll? No problem I have a generic "write-up" right here!
  22. Re: Someone called it mutagenic. Food for thought: Whatever Focus you might consider applicable to a quiver of arrows would fit this syringe build. I do not know what level of Focus that might be, that is for you (plural) to decide.
  23. Re: I'm building a gold dragon on 350 points I'm not positive but I think you define a weapon class (unarmed, blades, teeth) when you build the art, and only have to pay for additional weapon classes. You may be able to save a point there. I know, I know, it's only one point, but sometimes one point matters!
