dsatow got a reaction from Hugh Neilson in New Power (?)
They used to have one or two characters which did have the v slots.  I have a couple of heroes and villains which use v slots.  But I have found some GMs have a problem with certain issues raised by it:
If you have your defense, movement, and attack in v slots, more than likely you will have the slots can go extreme (i.e. more points than normally allocated to the slot).  More movement usually doesn't annoy the GM but more defense can be irksome depending how much greater it can be.  And if your attack goes too high, well, this is just "too unbalancing" regardless of how low your defenses and movement have gotten. A GM running a character with lots of v slots has just multiplied what he has to remember on that character during combat.  For experienced GMs, this usually isn't a problem with one or two characters.  But if you have to allocate pools for 6 villains, along with maintaining records of END, STUN, Body, Charges, End pools, Flash rounds, who is delayed, who is stunned is gets a bit daunting.  The fixed multipower is easier to run. Since force field went away, its harder to make an attack, defend, and move variable multipower.  Don't get me wrong, I like the idea of a generic Resistant Defense power but in this character design, the extra cost for the resistant and getting it for 0 end doesn't make this build any cheaper nor easier to allocate points.

I'm essentially saying that the only difference between use of an Entangle to telekinetically hold someone in place ... and use of an Entangle to induce the Earth's gravity to hold someone in place ... is the selected special effect.  i.e. Mechanically there should be no difference ... except maybe advantages you buy on the powers (IPE on the gravity bit, for example).

I agree with dsatow -- write the power up as you normally would, with the earth's gravity bit being SFX.

I have always ruled, grabbed will only stop movement if the attacker/special effects deem it.  Thus a choke hold doesn't stop movement nor an attacker who grabs a flying hero to get away from an explosion.

dsatow got a reaction from Boll Weevil in Battle mat dimensions - your input appreciated
That would depend on what you use the battlemat for.  If you use knockback, routinely use fast movement (over 20m per phase) or extended range firefights, I would suggest 1"=2m.  If you use knockdown and have relatively slow moving firefights, 1"=1m would be fine.

Edit: Another nice note, at the 1"=1m, you can use ready made drafting stencils for furniture, trees, generic shapes found in most drafting stores (I've found them in Office Depot, Office Max, Staples, etc.)

I figure inherent are abilities that can't be just "shut off" by others, they're not an addon to the character but part of their very nature.  You have to mangle or somehow harm them to shut off their power.

Yeah , I forgot about the no aid portion.  I think most people dwell on the dispel/drain side.

I just view inherent as a 'cannot drain' advantage rather than defining what is or is not covered by the term inherent.  This way, if someone has an Achilles like character who is magically invulnerable, they could just make it inherent and say the magic is so powerful it can't be drained.  This makes it more liberal in use and require more GM monitoring but inherent isn't used too often so I don't see it as much of a big deal (I mostly do general damage Blasts/KA with villains and the drains are more for surprise attacks/flavor).

    Sorry, last question really ...

If the attack stunned him and knocked him out and the absorption wakes him up all in the same segment, I assume per 6e2p106 that he's no longer stunned.  Is this correct?

Doesn't require trigger. Has a better maximum amount gained mechanic. Cheaper. Ex:
Aid 3d6, Reduced Endurance (0 END; +1/2), Trigger (Activating the Trigger is an Action that takes no time, Trigger resets automatically, immediately after it activates; +1) (45 Active Points)
    maximum benefit: 18 pts

Absorption 18 BODY  (energy), Increased Maximum (x16 points) (+1) (36 Active Points)
    maximum benefit: 288 pts

The only issue would be the attack would need to do Body.  Stun only attacks wouldn't be absorbed.

If the absorption is NOT bought as a defense, what happens when you have two applicable absorptions working?  (i.e. Brawny has two separate absorptions against physical body.  He has 6 absorption go to aiding Body and he has 6 absorption aiding Stun.  Brawny gets hit for 9 physical worth of Body.  How does Brawny absorb the attack?) If absorption is non-persistent and he goes unconscious after absorbing an attack but before the absorption goes to his stun, are the stun points lost? How does the fade rate affect 2x cost characteristics vs 1x cost characteristics?  AFAIK, the rules denote that the aid's effect is halved on certain characteristics, but does not note whether the fade rate is also affected.  Brawny has an Aid 3d6 to Strength and Stun.  He aids himself 10 points or +10 Strength and +10 Stun.  When post 12 comes around, he loses 5 active points worth.  I know he loses 5 points of aided strength.  Does he lose 5 or 10 points of aided Stun?

Why not just buy several PSLs vs Range. Check the rulebook to see if they can be used vs the other penalties. If not then just buy several CSLs as well.

The only problem, IIRC, is a rule that says if a stunned target recovers all their stun from the attack that made the target stunned, they become unstunned.  I can't quote the page number but I do remember reading it somewhere (one of the books or from Steve's response).
