Personally, I am not really a big fan of ranged martial arts in Champions.  Except for ranged disarm and ranged throw, I think most of the advantages could be simulated by levels or more dice on the power.  In heroic settings, I can see more reason to have it as everyone is using the same equipment/powers.  But not in a superpowered setting.

If used to buff NPCs, I probably wouldn't worry about it too much. Long-lasting Aids become a seed for plot lines where people seek out -- or villains try to force -- the use of said buffs on themselves.

If used to buff PCs, I'd expect the grantor to take actions to Aid at least once a play session. If the delay rate was long enough that the buff persisted across sessions, that no longer feels like an Aid.  I'd tell the "grantor" to use Boost instead, or tell the "targets" to buy the "aided" abilities themselves (possibly with a dispellable limitation to reflect that the power needs to be set up by the "grantor").

Good question!  First, as noted earlier, he doesn't go to this extreme.  He actually keeps a 3 DCV in a now 10 CV game.  Second, he's not quite human having suffered from a horrible magical accident crossing barriers between dimensions.  So his body doesn't always do what he wants with it.

I've found many players will come up with whatever reasons necessary to justify their builds.  If it 's just to save points and its not over powering, I've gotten to not really care.

Just wanted to drop a short convention report. Had a great time reconnecting with my people. Though I was too slow in registration to get into any games as I was just there Sat; and Sun, I did manage to reconnect with my gamer people at the show. It was a bit over stuffed, with the Hotel having to convert a store room into extra gaming, but the con moved very smoothly, and the Hotel staff was very helpful. Hero was a bit under represented; but In did note a few incidences of Hero in the wild. All in all,  it was a fine send off for the Marriott San Ramon. I cannot was other confirm or deny a conspiracy for as many people as possible running Hero next year in Santa Clara for the 40 anniversary of Champions.

Just a note.  A fixed or floating location is a way to teleport TO.  It is not a way to make something auto targetable by teleport usable by/against another.

You need Defensive Maneuver IV for your levels to be persistent.

As a side note, this may have been a reaction to the constantly improving martial artist design villain I made.  Whenever he hit someone, he drained 2d6 of DCV.  This drain only benefited him for a -1/2 limitation.  Similarly, when he was hit, he would absorb 10 points into his own DCV.  The absorption wouldn't provide defense, but would make him harder and harder to hit.

To stop him, they dropped a mack truck on him.

"Floating fixed locations" is the terminology used in 6th edition.  "Floating" because you can change it, and "fixed location" as a spot that you can teleport to.

I created my own Brawling which is just a subset of dirty infighting just so that it was easy to add to characters in hero designer.

    Brawling
    3 Punch: 1/2 Phase, +1 OCV, +0 DCV, 5d6 Strike
4 Put The Boot In: 1/2 Phase, +0 OCV, -1 DCV, 7d6 Strike, Prone
3 Block:  1/2 Phase, +2 OCV, +0 DCV, Block, Abort

I also has a 10 point "martial art" for self defense

    Self Defense Course
3 Defensive Throw:  1/2 Phase, +1 OCV, +1 DCV, Block, Target Falls
    4 Escape:  1/2 Phase, +0 OCV, +0 DCV, 30 STR vs. Grabs
    4 Eye Gouge: 1/2 Phase, -1 OCV, -1 DCV, Flash 4d6

A police training martial art.  In California at least, all officers are taught techniques but the rumors I hear are that most don't keep up to date with all the maneuvers.  Might need to add a pin in there too.

    Police Academy Training
    3 Punch: 1/2 Phase, +1 OCV, +0 DCV, 5d6 Strike
    3 Takedown: 1/2 Phase, +1 OCV, +1 DCV, 3d6 Strike; Target Falls
4 Disarm: 1/2 Phase, -1 OCV, +1 DCV, Disarm; 25 STR to Disarm
4 Choke Hold: 1/2 Phase, -2 OCV, +0 DCV, Grab One Limb; 2d6 NND
    4 Joint Lock/Throw: 1/2 Phase, +1 OCV, +0 DCV, Grab One Limb; 1d6 NND ; Target Falls
3 Grab: 1/2 Phase, -1 OCV, -1 DCV, Grab Two Limbs, 25 STR for holding on
    1 Weapon Element: Clubs

I also had RAT (Rent an Agent Team) agent martial arts and Inquisitor (Holy Roman Church) martial arts.  But the above three might be more interesting to people.

BTW: My version of a 6th ed ring of regeneration.  If you take off the ring, you have to re-acclimate to the ring in 24 hours.

14 Regeneration (2 BODY per Turn), Can Heal Limbs, Resurrection (57 Active Points); Extra Time (1 Day, Only to Acclimate, -2), OAF (-1)

But it isn't UBO. it's a focus and applies it to the wearer. but the focus can be  passed to, or stolen from the original wearer. The regeneration does not continue to grant the original wearer  if someone else is wearing the ring.  Sometimes common sense should  take precedence from the rule hacking.

I strongly disagree, but I've already stated my views.

I feel, if you absolutely must invoke the teleport-construct (I maintain this to be a mistake), it should be based off Teleport, UAA, Trigger.

Two things:  I live in the _best_ part of the southeast.

Florida is not the South.  Not by any stretch of the imagination.

I don't go to Florida for the same reason I don't go to Atlanta:  I do not like to leave the south.

It depends.  My group plays whether a focus is accessible or not is based off if you can remove/takeaway/disarm it during combat.  As an example, a ring was given.  When it was noted it was relatively easy to remove, they made a fist while wearing the ring and asked us to take it off.  So for our games, a focus is considered accessible if during combat, with the target resisting(generally not mind controlled, stunned, or unconscious), you could take the item away with a quick grab and yank or a martial maneuver.  Of course, this is our house definition and the person buying the power decides what it rates based on that definition.  Your group's definition may be different.

I've did something like this around the time 6th was launched but with a few slight differences. Lord Liaden has something similar also which we both came up with without knowing each other.

Firstly the vast majority of NPCs are Normals and fall under Normal Characteristic Maxima even if they get no points for it. As such they take 1.5x from all Powers except theMental Group which they take 2x from.

Exceptional NPCs (such as combat competent DNPCs  and most Martial Arts and Tech  based types) fall under the category of Real Person. They take normal damage from Powers but  still 2x from Mental Powers.

The PC's and the Villains use some special rules also

They have 3 levels of Damage Negation against all Real Weapons unless they take the Real Person Complication (10 points) listed above in which case they get 1 level of Damage Negation and only 1.5x vs Mental Powers.

Powers and Supertech do 1.5x BODY damage against normal items. Attacks bought .with AP or Penetrating ignored the applicable defense of normal items also.

It worked as I wanted which was to keep the power levels and points low while making Supers clearly superior.

A gang of delinquents with  30 point attacks, 10-15 defenses can terrorize normals and regular police but were no real threat to the 50 point, 20-25  defense Heroes (or Villains) and could be handled by ESWAT or agents.

Where it may not work for you is this. Supers still did not brush aside heavy military equipment. Heavy weapons are still a threat, tanks and similarly armored vehicles or bunkers take some effort to destroy and a lucky shot from one or a missile will still do some damage. This too will not be a problem if your highest echelon of power is in the 75 point and up range, mine capped with the global threats at 15 dice.

I started with 2x damage but that was overkill on everything except the Mental Powers. If you want large scale destruction on lower points then 2x is fine.

That is one of my favorite options, particularly with the increasing incidents of "no" and "must."

However, I wanted to point out that the obviousness of usable by others depends entirely on who controls the power / pays the END.  If the other person ends up in charge of and responsible for the power, then yes: usable by others.  If the player character with the power remains in charge of / responsible for the power, then no; it's not usable by others.  While the published examples have used wording such as "usable on others" and "usable against others," at their heart, they are all "usable as attack."

Regeneration with a universal OIF focus is enough.

In general, the Usable by Other set of advantages is only used when you have the power and are able to give/force it on someone else.  The difference is that the person with the focus is in control of the power and possesses the power.  If you were going to create a "spell of regeneration" that you could cast on other people, then Usable by Other would be appropriate, because you would have the spell and the target would get the benefits (though in that specific case healing might be better).

    Hopefully, that's useful.

I'm pretty much in line with Phi:

I am thinking Mind Scan with limitations like "target must be within eyeshot of a mirrror;" caster must be looking into a mirror. "

    Call it done.

Want more details?  You can use mind scan to target someone with a mental power (one you have their location).  So you can use that to nail the mirror you are seeing them through as a location to pin your clairsentience.  Add" only through mirrors" to keep with your shtick and you're done.

There's no reason, I don't believe, to really over think this, since there are out-of-the-book constructs for doing precisely what you want.

My first thought is some sort of Mind Scan combined with Clairsentience.

But then another thought occurred to me, and I don't know how much this should cost:  Something like Fixed Locations for Teleporting, you could have Fixed Locations for Clairsentience.  And they could be either regular Fixed Locations, like your best buddy, or Floating Fixed Locations, that you have to spend some time "studying" to change.  Seems like a rather obvious adder for Clairsentience that should have been available already, now that I think of it.

But does it work in reverse?  Bonus points if you can guess the recipe!
1 brick, softened 1 martial artist 1 speedster 2 Supervillains 2 teams villain's agents 1 false game goal 2 battle scenes 1 DNPC 3 all-purpose police officers 2 semisweet reporters 1 FBI agents
Preheat gaming table by 350 XP D&D (1 XP Hero System). Team together the brick, martial artist, and speedster until smooth. Beat in the supervillains one at a time, then stir in the villain's agents. Dissolve false game goal with battle scenes. Add to battle along with DNPC. Stir in police officers, reporters, and FBI agents. Drop by large spoonfuls onto your campaign. Run for about 10 sessions in the preheated gaming table, or until PCs are nicely crowned.

dsatow got a reaction from Duke Bushido in Attacking for presence attack
Well, that is what I think this forum should be used for, interesting rules discussions with points and counter points.  That and maybe recipe arguments

This is interesting, but a lucky roll might be overly impressive and the extra damage roll might slow the game (especially with players who have a hard time counting pips or in games where large amounts of dice are thrown).  Maybe using average stun and body for the attack and using the total body or total stun/10 past defenses (whichever is higher) for the bonus dice.  This would replace the +1d6 to +3d6 for violent action which I always thought was a little too small of a range of bonus dice for presence.

BTW: for everyone replying to this thread, THANKS!  The conversation has given me a lot to think about.
