  1. Re: What should I add to my equipment list? Heh heh...oh yeah... It'll probably interface seamlessly with the more substantial comms gear, but it probably shouldn't have much range by itself. If it works like a cell phone, space stations and most larger ships will probably have the cell antennas and switching equipment onboard. Comms between people in the same structure will be easy, and comms to another nearby structure probably not much harder...kind of like making an international phone call now. Smaller ships might not be able (and probably won't need) to run comms networks within the ship, and might not allow a direct interface between personal equipment and the ship's comms gear. If it is set up to allow any kind of comms outside of dealing with traffic controllers, emergencies, etc, it would probably require the equivalent of an international phone call from the ship's radio room. Jamming that augmented reality could be pretty nasty, thinking about it...rather than overlaying the real world with useful information, it would probably actually obscure the real world until it was turned off. It would probably be similar to flashbang in effect. Jammers, of course, are for law enforcement/military use. No one else has any business shutting AR down. Hope you can find a useful droplet in that brainstorm.
  2. Re: Need Hero Team name Neighborhood Watch.
  3. Re: Order of the Stick If either Elan or Tarquin is ever depicted kneeling over the severely injured body of the other, saying "I'm never going to give you up", or anything even remotely similar, I will hunt you down, Hermit.
  4. Re: Cool Guns for your Games That's almost certainly it. Those trenches were pretty bad. Still, from what I've seen of those trenches, if a rifle ever got buried in that mud for 48 hours, no one was ever going to see it again...
  5. Re: Cool Guns for your Games Heh...what's with the 48 hours in the mud? Was that some kind of Lungfish Brigade?
  6. Re: "Neat" Pictures Hmm...I was thinking it was the American McGee Alice, but she doesn't have the striped stockings that this brunette Alice has...
  7. Re: Cool Guns for your Games I've carried M-16s by the handle. It's pretty useful when you're carrying ten at a time.
  8. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Huh....that's interesting. I don't remember where I got the idea that they were Greek. I never would have guessed it was a modern invention...
  9. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... Eagles with stag heads are Greek in origin. I do remember seeing the "rust monster" toy in bags of what was supposed to be dinosaurs, though.
  10. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore Aha, that might make it a little harder. Well, one good thing about this ridiculous "corn ethanol will solve all our energy problems" thing is that it's driving up the price of corn syrup. Sugar's making a comeback in prepared foods, despite the even more ridiculous tariff on sugar imports. If it's not out there already, real-sugar grape jelly is probably not far away. You know, jelly's not that hard to make. Have you ever looked into it? Homemade is way better than manufactured anyway...
  11. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore Is it that hard to find? Grape and strawberry are the two default flavors, IME.
  12. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore I agree. He put his foot in his mouth with that one.
  13. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... You don't use a flamethrower in your house. Your stuff isn't there to set on fire. And if the people you're with are so pathetic that a rapidly degrading zombie can still kill them, you need to use the flamethrower on them as well.
  14. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... It only stumbles around for a short while. Fire purifies.
  15. Re: The Future of Food Technology I had details worked out for the 4th Ed Cyber Hero game I was putting together for all the various wealth levels. The Filthy Rich types had real free-range meat and farm-fresh vegetables, with various lower levels settling for vat-grown meat, or fake meat made of soy, krill, or yeast, with vegetables suitably less attractive as well. Clothing and housing got similar treatment. The whole thing fit on a page...it wasn't real in-depth, just enough to show how the other half lived.
  16. Re: Foods for those that just don't care anymore I couldn't decide if the Massive Meat Log video was sexy or disgusting, until the last minute when she said "Let's play Black Ops"
  17. Re: The Theory of Intersteller Trade by Paul Krugman What's a butsek?
  18. Re: How does a Megacorp make money? Probably most of the megacorps are churning out cheap mass-produced crap for the masses, and also some really high-end quality versions of the same stuff for those with the money to spend. Like the reusable plastic plates, forks, etc at Wal-Mart as opposed to the dishes sold at Tiffany's.
  19. Re: GAME RELATED: Anyone know the science behind an orbital nuclear burst? By eyeballing it and not having rolled the actual damage, it seems to me the character would survive the blast with serious injuries, and then, unless he has Flight on his own, will fall to the ground and be knocked into negative BODY by the fall. Unless there's an EMT sitting real close by the impact area, going purely on mechanics, the character's going to die. Sean Waters has some good suggestions though...radiation accidents are always fun. Maybe let the player use another character for a few game sessions before bringing this guy back with a new power set gained from the blast.
  20. Re: GAME RELATED: Anyone know the science behind an orbital nuclear burst? Was the warhead inside or outside the vehicle? Is the character's ED resistant? The quick and dirty estimate for a nuke is 20d6K, although a 5Kton bomb would be a little bit smaller.
