  1. Re: Order of the Stick If I was playing in this campaign, I would have quit already. Roy's been dead for a year or more, V's about to die, Hayley has to give all her money to the Thieves' Guild and can't rescue her dad. There's been damn few wins and a whole lot of losses lately.
  2. Re: Order of the Stick Where's that dragon from? I don't remember it.
  3. Re: So what concepts are you tempted to play on the MMORPG anyway? That's the nature of computer gaming...you're either blatantly railroaded or you're allowed so much freedom to go out and do stuff that it's actually hard to finish the story because you forget what you're supposed to be doing. Live GMs can give nudges here and there that a prebuilt computer program will never be able to do (at least for the foreseeable future).
  4. Re: Adventure conversions for Valdorian Age Finally got around to it...parts six, seven, and eight of the Savage Tide adventure path. I'm not planning on going any further on the Savage Tide, since beyond this point the action moves to the Abyss, and plane-hopping to fight hordes of demons isn't usually associated with S&S. If you want to play an Elric type game, you don't need much in the way of this sort of conversion anyway.
  5. Re: How I Ran a "Heroes"-like Hero Campaign Sounds like a lot of fun. Rep* to you for your advice, and welcome to the forums. *Don't worry, you'll figure it out.
  6. Re: WWYCD: "Dear Superhero" (Warning: Ugly situation) You're just letting the fact that they have faces and they beg you and/or God for mercy and scream for their mothers put you off. They actually taste just like pork.
  7. Re: Quote of the Week from my gaming group... After coming into contact with radioactive ambergris, surfer Willie Bryde gains the proportionate strength and powers of whale vomit.
  8. Re: teen champons geeks vs jocks kung fu version I would tend to think they'd fall more into the geek side of that equation (with the exception of the wrestling team jocks), but it would vary according to individual personality. Many would fall into neither group.
  9. Re: It pay to listen to the stories of your Grandfathers
  10. Re: Need Help With Codes of Conduct What are the game effects of Common Sense in GURPS?
  11. Re: What Fantasy/Sci-Fi book have you just finished? Please rate it... Just finished reading The Sky People by S.M. Stirling. It was an alternate history type thing, where the Cold War era was more focused on the space race, and the first Soviet probe to Venus sent back pictures of jungle, cavemen, and dinosaurs. By the late 1980s, both the USSR and the US had colonies on Venus (and Mars too, which also turned out to be inhabited). The main focus of this book was a rescue mission to a downed Soviet shuttle, led by the US, since the Soviets didn't have enough airships (yeah, airships...they're fairly easy to build with native materials and therefore don't need much in the way of materials sent from Earth ) to risk one on such a long-range mission. Add in a little Cold War tension, sabotage, and few applications of Clarke's Law, and it turns out to be a pretty fun read. Very pulpy, yet with a more modern feel. I'm looking forward to picking up Stirling's Mars novel now...In the Courts of the Crimson Kings. Should be another interesting take on modernized pulp sci-fi.
  12. Re: Super Fantasy- The Land of Mar'Veldc Some could be wielders of some sort of wild magic...something that comes naturally rather than requiring study to learn. Some could be elemental type creatures...genies, etc. Some could be infused with the power of a god. Some could be mages. It would be best to look at their background first and power-set afterwards when converting supers to fantasy.
  13. Re: Shadow run conversions If you can get your hands on Fourth Edition Cyber Hero, there's a decking system already put together. It's not everyone's cup of tea, but it does parallel the way things work in Shadowrun pretty well.
  14. Re: Hollow Earth --Not! Which usually, but not always, comes after the 1920s. Wouldn't work too well for Victorian SF a la Space:1889, but as long as you rule that out... The antediluvian civilization is probably the best scenario, especially if their technology is advanced enough that pre-19th century explorers don't have the weaponry to resist being captured, but early 20th century tech, wielded by two-fisted adventurers and daring men of science, can compete.
  15. Re: Jokes The doctor that had been seeing an 80-year-old woman for most of her life finally retired. At her next checkup, the new doctor told her to bring a list of all the medicines that had been prescribed for her. As the young doctor was looking through these, his eyes grew wide as he realized she had a prescription for birth control pills. 'Mrs. Smith, do you realize these are BIRTH CONTROL pills?' 'Yes, they help me to sleep at night.' 'Mrs. Smith, I assure you there is absolutely NOTHING in these that could possibly help you sleep!' She reached out and patted the young Doctor's knee. 'Yes, dear, I know that. But every morning, I grind one up and mix it in the glass of orange juice that my 16 year old granddaughter drinks.......And believe me, it helps me sleep at night.'
  16. Re: Spell of gods comunication That depends. If you're getting 20 questions (or worse yet, unlimited), it's not too limiting. If you only get to ask three, the yes-no answer is generally going to lead to some pretty vague information gathering.
  17. Re: Super Fantasy- The Land of Mar'Veldc Isn't Wolverine angry all the time anyway? And aren't dwarves mostly angry as well?
  18. Re: Need Help With Codes of Conduct I think Dan Simon would get tired of all the emails complaining about the neighbor's dog, though. "What the hell am I supposed to do about it?"
  19. Re: Genre-crossover nightmares Aslan Doo, Where Are You? - Lucy, Edmond, Peter, and Susan travel around with their talking lion, Aslan Doo, in their Mystery Machine, fighting epic battles against guys in rubber monster masks. The Chronicles of Pornia: The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe - Hot three-way action.
  20. Re: Need Help With Codes of Conduct Well, yeah, if you kill somebody, the police will hunt you, too, but that doesn't mean you have a Code Against Killing. I'm talking about someone who actually devotes their life to living the Hero Games Forums Rules of Conduct.
  21. Re: Need Help With Codes of Conduct So, how many points is "Devoted to Hero Games Discussion Boards Rules of Conduct" worth as a Disad?
  22. Re: Conan vs. Elric Why not? You can add an NND that can't affect someone who makes a CON roll...
  23. Re: WW2 Guns and Vehicles These games rule, by the way. Perfect fog of war, highly realistic morale rules, unsurpassed armor penetration rules. What a great feeling to sneak a Sherman up close enough to a Tiger to take it out. And the first game I ever beat the computer, I was sure I was losing...it was only after the game was over and I could see every unit on the battlefield that I realized that every single enemy unit left was beat all to hell and back, and my small handful of remaining combat-effectives were a decisive factor by then. Great games...can't beat them.
  24. Re: Arsenic I believe the water sources the Ul-Mor use are fairly highly contaminated. Drinking your fill one time probably won't kill you, but it'll make you sick as hell, and if that's all the water you've got to drink (and no way to filter it), you'll be dead within a week, one way or the other. So, what...1 1/2d6 NND no range RKA? Probably some sort of gradual effect on that, but I'm not too up on arsenic poisoning*, and I didn't read the provided link. *Or maybe that's what I WANT you to think...
