  1. Re: HPA In The Works: The Great White Hunter's Bestiary There are some Conan stories with "dragons" that are obviously some sort of dinosaur, and there's a Solomon Kane story with "harpies" that are humanoid bats. How about a couple of mythical monsters made over into natural animals, or rather natural animals that could be the inspiration for the myths? Maybe something like a large clawed and fanged monkey with a prehensile tail, which inspired stories of the manticore.
  2. Re: Fantasy Art Thread This would be awesome.
  3. Re: Poison's Champions Art Thread That's a horrible injustice. Your stuff is way better than that crap in the link.
  4. Re: Kryptonian knockoffs in CU? But...but...magic cleavage window!
  5. Re: HPA In The Works: The Great White Hunter's Bestiary This is a great idea. One possible addition would be a list of strategies that could be used by animals with the Cunning template added. I recall reading about a professional hunter who wasn't able to get a shot at a particular leopard (or maybe jaguar, I don't recall exactly) until it was within leaping distance of him, because it kept some obstacle between them as it approached. The Tsavo lions were also pretty cunning in their hunting. A man-eater with just a taste for human flesh and no smarts to back it up ends up shot within a week or two.

  7. Re: HPA In The Works: The Great White Hunter's Bestiary You fiend! You'll never get away with this.
  8. Re: The Voynich Manuscript This is worth checking out for anyone planning on writing a new book of secret knowledge. https://www.herogames.com/forums/showthread.php?t=68646&highlight=masonic+cryptography
  9. Re: How to present combat to new players Holy crap, that's so ridiculously easy I might start doing that to my own characters. Why has this never occurred to me?
  10. Re: What to do about Hydras Each head is an individual and gets to act on its own SPD. They can't reform into one head, hence the Can't Recombine limitation.
  11. Re: Medals for Robots That opening vignette is bizarre. Inhumane? As for animals getting medals, there was a pigeon in WWI named Cher Ami who received the Croix de Guerre for carrying a message after having been shot through the chest and losing an eye and a leg. They don't still give animals awards? That's kind of weird. I mean, it's weird to do it in the first place, since the animal doesn't give a rat's ass, and it's not going to inspire any of the other animals, but it's symbolic to those humans that work directly with the animals.
  12. Re: Defence Stacking There might be some specific circumstance in which they're not equivalent, but I can't think of what that might be off the top of my head.
  13. Re: Defence Stacking If you go by the Armor charts, doubling the amount of armor adds +2 to the DEF. So two 5/5 Force Fields should come out to 7/7. Adding a third 5/5 FF, since it's not doubling the amount of defenses, should only add +1, for a total of 8/8. Four 5/5 FFs should come out to 9/9 (doubling the two FFs). It will take two more applications to knock it up to 10/10, though. That's how I do it, at least. And generally only in heroic level games. If it was a superheroic game, I'd give full value in most cases.
  14. Re: Four legged robot with creepily realistic movements It's pretty impressive how it recovered when the guy kicked it or it slipped on ice. It's noisy as all get out though, which will need to be fixed if it's going to be a military "mule".
  15. Re: THE BOOK OF THE MACHINE: What Do *You* Want To See? Plots and schemes. One thing I've always had trouble with when dealing with mastermind type villains is coming up with schemes that a) pose a threat that can be countered (in an interesting fashion) by the PCs, fit the villain's personality, and c) don't seem to be a rehash of the last big scheme. Mechanon is particularly hard in this respect, since the extermination of all organic life is unlikely to be the sort of thing you could blackmail the victims into carrying out. The plot seed in Legatus's last post is the sort of thing I'd be in seeing more of.
  16. Re: Hypothetically and unofficially, what would you like to see in a Mecha Hero book? HAHA, are you serious? That reminds me of that psionic helmet thingy from The Tick that had a pull-start like a lawnmower.
  17. Re: Slow Space Elevator Most things don't turn out as planned. You can't just quit on them because of that.
  18. Re: coming back to the fold Not quite so new...he's been around a couple of weeks now, and has caused quite the stir with his offer to draw characters for people. At any rate, fresh faces are always a good thing. "More heads better"...
  19. Re: "Neat" Pictures That's a feature, not a bug. "Umm...it's supposed to be doing that."
  20. Re: Whoo-Hoo! Atlantean Age Is Mine! I won't give it a full professional quality review, but I will say that it's an exciting book. The background is interesting, with a variety of nations and cultures, and room for global scale adventure...international intrigue, warfare, etc. High powered setting...the rank-and-file Atlantean soldier has a STR of 20, and wizards wield incredible power. Many people know at least a minor spell or two...there's a nation whose archers know a spell to cause their arrows to flame. There's a fair amount of stuff reprinted from Hidden Lands (pisciremes, flynq-sharks, etc), but a lot of new stuff too. I spent about 20 seconds flipping through it at the store before I tucked it under my arm, knowing I would buy it.
  21. Re: Burnout in a Multipower - Defender's EB It depends on how much of a limitation the Burnout is bought as. If it just covers that one slot, I'd just apply it to that slot. If it gets enough of a points rebate to cover the whole multipower, I'd apply it to the whole thing. SFX wise, I agree it should burn out the whole thing, except maybe the single weakest slot. At least until Defender takes a phase or two to work on a quick juryrig.
  22. Re: Jokes Haha! This one is a classic...I've read versions of it that were well over a hundred years old, and I wouldn't be surprised to hear that it's way older than that.
  23. Re: "Neat" Pictures I wouldn't want that guy's job...
