I tried to use HD for 5th edition to make a couple of FH characters and well I need to know how to do the following: 1) Equipment- Especially magic items that are independent (-2) of the NPC but I want to list as part of his stats 2) Familiarity as a power- The magic systems I am planning to use allow a familiairity (1 to 2 points) to stand if for the power. But I want to list the power later so show what this Fam bought. Example: 7 Basic Running: Running +5" (6"/21" total), x4 Noncombat (15 Active Points); Extra Time (Delayed Phase, Only to Activate, -1/4), Concentration (1/2 DCV; -1/4), Incantations (-1/4), Gestures (-1/4) […

Dan, the following seems to imply that it targets the entire output of the export. Is that correct? I was hoping to target just the output of a specific field but there's nothing to suggest I can do that.

I just noticed that REC is a nested power structure in the HDC files for Endurance Reserves. There may be other places this happens, this is just the first place I have seen it. A few questions: 1. Does this mean that you would have to have nested POWER loops on export to capture the REC for the END reserve (or other nested power structures)? 2. I don't see any indicator in the HDC file (or anything in the documentation) that would show that a power has nested power structures, did I miss it? 3. If the answer to question 1 & 2 is "yes, no", do you know of or is there documentation of which other powers can have nested power structures? …

When exporting compound powers, how do you associate all the powers in the compound power to each other? I can detect that a power is part of a compound power using <!--IF_COMPOUND_POWER> and split them with <!--COMPONENT_POWERS> but I am not seeing a way to determine if a give component is part of a given compound power. This is a parsing problem especially when more than one compound power can appear on a sheet. Am I just missing a tag somewhere? - E

I have a power I am working on but for some reason it is showing Always On as not available. Here is the screen shot: Under view reason it says: Always On may only be applied to abilities which are either Persistent or Inherent And the power text: Stabilization field: Aid PD 2d6, Area Of Effect (16m Radius Explosion; +1/4), Persistent (+1/4), Constant (+1/2), Affects Desolidified Any form of Desolidification (+1/2) (30 Active Points) What am I doing wrong? - E

I am building a character for 5th Edition. I noticed that when I build Teleport in a Multi power that I can't put the floating and fixed locations in the multi power like I used to be able with the old program many long years ago. (So long ago I don't even remember doing it I just have the output page) So obviously this is intentional. I am just wondering why, when you would manually add this stuff up and get a different result.

Okay, I am having a lovely problem with Hero Designer. Note that I have both HD v3 build 2008030405 and HD v6 build 2021100804. Really old and current. Both open like normal. I can change any text in the Basic Info tab and Background tabs. I can change characteristic, add skills, no problem. but if I try to add a Perk it freezes up, just the error noise it makes when you. click anything. Have to close it with Ctl-Alt-Del. If I open a sheet and try to change or edit a perk, talent, power or disad it locks up. Now I know JAVA is a pain, so I did an update. Same results. I uninstalled JAVA and loaded it up fresh. Hello Simon I've been having a strange issue with HD on my iMac, it can no longer find the iCloud drive that has all my hdc files on it. I can find the drive in Finder but not through HD. I also have HD installed on a PC in my Livingroom, it has access to those iCloud files with no issues! I used to be able to open the file on my PC, make changes, then down in my office open the same file on my iMac and view/edit from there as well. Any suggestions will be welcome. Apple says its nothing they've done as I can find the files in Finder... but I don't believe them... Apple also suggested I ask for help from the cr…

I want to create an effect that adds exactly 5 points to a stat, say strength. To do that I select standard effect. If I select for levels one die, it will give me a standard effect of 3. If I select two die, it will give me a standard of effect of 6. However I want five. So I reduce the die to just one and hit +1/2 die, expecting that to give me a standard effect of 5. It does not, it gives me a standard effect of 4. Selecting +1 'also' gives me a standard effect of 4.

Steps: 1. Create new character, 6E Superheroic. 2. Go to Powers, and add Leaping, 4m, with No Gravity Penalty and Add Modifiers to Base Characteristic, and Add to Primary. Power shows 8m forward, 6m upward. 3. Go back to Characteristics, increase Leaping to 8m. Go back to Powers. Characteristic tab shows 12m forward, 8m upward. So does the Powers tag. So the No Gravity Penalty isn't being incorporated. HD 20210301 version. Similarly: In Powers, add Running 10m. Reduced END. Add to Primary, and Add Modifiers to Base Characteristic. It's been a while since I worked with the Shrinking power. I'm using build 20210301. I bought Shrinking on a character with the Normal Mass Advantage, but it is still showing the KB modifier instead of it going away.

When I was doing an export today this is what I got for 5th edition. 6th will give me a 3-3 or something close to it. It's been a LONG time since I've loaded a 5th file. Is this correct or ? noted this in Main6E; it's probably in the others. I believe this is from a fairly current version... <LANGUAGE TYPE="Eskimo-Aleut" DISPLAY="Eskmo (Inuit, Inuktitut)"> </LANGUAGE> I presume it should be "Eskimo" in the display... Since there's no similarities on it, it's got no possible functional impact.

Using HD ver 20210301. In the 5e template I can find the advantage for Power can draw END from Character or END Reserve but in 6e I cannot find the same, using the same steps to create the END reserve and a power to draw from it. It is also not listed in the Unavailable Advantages. Another one that I don't see either in 5e or 6e is the Double Endurance Cost (-1/2) limitation from 6e1, pg 206 which causes the power to draw from both the personal END and END reserve, not sure if that is intended or not. I'm using build 20210301. If I buy the Electronics or Systems Operation skills and then add a Custom Adder to either of them of 1 or 2, then the cost of the skill drops to 2 from the default cost of 3. At higher Custom Adder numbers, the cost of these two skills just becomes the Custom Adder value instead of the base cost plus the Custom Adder value. For example, I buy Electronics then add a Custom Adder of 1 or 2, the active points and real cost drops to 2. If I change the Custom Adder value to 8, then the active points and real cost becomes 8 instead of 11. I haven't noticed this on any other skills. Mechanics functions normally in it…

I'm building a character, and part of the concept is certain skills bought as powers. I pick a skill to start with (Lockpicking), and part of the concept is that people won't see the character doing the lock intrusion. I go to Power Modifiers, and Invisible Power Effects isn't listed as a possible Advantage. Looking at the reason why it's unavailable resulted in this - The other skills I checked were the same. Then I looked at 6E1 p124 'Sensing Powers and Special Effects' to verify this, and Skills aren't listed as a type of power that would visible on p126 Obviousness. 1: How do I do a plug-in for HD? plug-in directory, call the external classes. Anything else? 2: how can I pull out information from the notes section in the characteristics and other pre-made areas? for example on Size (for vehicles) all the length, height, etc is in the Notes, I want to pull them out and make their own items of them. Similar to what the 5th edition sheet was.

For those having issues with HD appearing too small under high resolution screens (when running Windows), an update has been posted which enables command-line flags to set the default font size throughout the application. To use, you need to launch HD from the command line (or create a batch script) with the following: javaw -jar HD6.jar [font size] for example, the following would set the default font size throughout the application to 18pt: javaw -jar HD6.jar 18 Windows does not appear to pass font scaling along to Java, hence the issue under high resolution screens.
