What would you character do...

If a group of powerful Supers did pull an Authority like take over? Assume the profess to have goood intention but have used some fairly violent means to accomplish them. Their targets have been "questionable", some dictators, some CEOS. The results have generally been lethal. These characters seem to bein JLA/Authority range of power.

Re: What would you character do...

Anthem: is the head of America's national security superhero team. He is not a super patriot, but he is a lover of liberty, freedom, and equality under the law. He would consider this teams actions completely unacceptable. His team is easily on par with the JLA/Avengers. He'd prepare (tactics 20-) for a confrontation - including coordinating with other supers en masse - and wait for the call. It would be forthcoming...

Midnight: he's more a nightwing type, but darnit, what these guys are doing are wrong. If it came down to a coaltion to oppose them he would join it.

Pinstripe: he's a homicidal maniac who targets criminals - well, people he defines as being criminals - he'd join their fan club.

Re: What would you character do...

Depends on the character

One of my first,

Quantus

would likely use his cosmic power to make either an attempt to stem their tide of violence or go dimension hopping and recruit whatever aid he could find

MassHammer would be easily misled and end up joining until they hurt one of his friends or a child, then he'd do his best to crush them {and having a mangled truck that he carries around and uses for a club should help}

Chillbane would likely suit up and go underground to the best of her ability either rallying supers to her aid or joining up with someone else whose decidely opposed

Shadowwalker knowing he's way out of his league would more likely endeavor to quietly oppose this threat to humanity

Ordainer would probably rashly resist and get smushed or go underground as well, though if they can actually provide convincing evidence to support their actions he might even join them [was part of a DCish Kingdom Come game that unfortunately didn't last, as one player after another had to leave due to RL]

Adrenaline would wait for Death Wish, mentor to tell him what to do. On most stuff he is fairly confident, but the bigger the problem the less confidence he has. Death Wish would realize that there is very little they can do to over throw the Authority class "leaders", but would help if the situation presented itself.

Rift would join up with any other government sanctioned heroes (being a member of the superhuman version of the SWAT team) to defeat the coup.

Hecabus would be pleased that his plan to install a fake set of leaders had worked. No really, although extremely powerful, Hecabus prefers to be the unknown but true power of the throne. He usually appears a close advisor to the kings.

Re: What would you character do...

hmmm...well, going through my list of major characters I've played in the last 10 years...

Edge used to do espionage and "wetwork" for various government agencies--depending on how destabilizing the team was, he'd likely start taking requests :eg:

Iron Golem is a former Special Forces demolition expert--he'd most likely answer the call, along with the rest of his teammates, to put these guys down once they went over the line

Tech Wiz would actually be initially intrigued at the chance to make a difference in the world, and might offer his technological assistance, but once the body count got started, he'd turn on them fast

Kid Wonder would be highly annoyed that they were getting away with stuff way worse than what he got into trouble(and felt much guilt) over, and would ask where he could sign up to kick their tails

Captain Yamato would come to the aid of her country, as always, probably in the awkward position of defending whaling vessels against such a team.

Karl Raven, being an evil calculating mentalist masquerading as a superhero, would fit right in with such a team, and would probably scheme his way to leadership

Overman would take an instant dislike to such a team, because of their putting themselves above humanity, and would willingly join the resistance to them--he'd probably write a song about it, too.

Deus Ex Machina(a GMPC/plot device) is an "involuntary dimensional conqueror" slumming for fun as a superhero in this world, and everyone else in his realm has lost their free will as a result of the biggest mistake in his existence; so the interference in the free will of the people would clearly bother him. He'd try to persuade the "heroes" to change their methods. They'd "kill" him, most likely, then he'd come back in a month to crush them like colorfully clad bugs.

Prof. Sihn, aka Nexus, would be ready to rumble - looking for the new team to take the first aggressive move first, though. He might have to subvert some of the more diplomatically-minded members of his own team.

Re: What would you character do...

Audra Blue, who lost some of her best friends to insane supervillains, who would wait and see what they did, and if they interfered with her. If they don't go after her, she wouldn't go after them.... until they did something she viewed as villainous (or at least More villainous).

Anthem would be against this from the start, but she's too puny to deal with them. It would be all about finding a way to chip away at them from the street level.

Uncle Slam is a government liason to superhero teams. He'd likely come straight at them with all the resources he could bring to bear.

In order of points:

Sludge: Challenge their Brick. Get pasted. Go into a depressive funk. Snap out of it.

Wash, rinse, repeat until A) He gets killed, B) Someone intervenes.

Robot: Oppose. Don't get into fights; he'd lose. Instead, use his mind as best he can to find a way to defeat them, and put them away. :angst:

Wraith: Well, he's not in their league. However... turbocharge a ghost. Him it possess one of them, create team dissention. He'll probably also get pasted... still. Mentalist with Aid has a chance to beat a team like that if they have a lack of mental powers/someone vulnerable to 'mystic' effects. :pbt:

Flippant: STILL not in their league. However... go looking for a dimension with someone who could lay the smack down on them, and offer transport. :eg:

Bedouin: As an actual elite, he's fighting them straight up from day one. Sure, he's the one pure human on his team... he'd still fight to the death if need be. :tsk:

With the exception of Sludge, they're all quite opposed to the idea on moral grounds. Sludge is just an OverOverConfidant teen thug brick.

Re: What would you character do...

ghost .. if they left her alone, she'd leave them alone. As an assassin she'd hunt them down one at a time and kill them all, or take their souls and do Very Bad tThings to them. [this character is *not* from a supers team.. and is easily JLA level]

Tatyana .. dislikes oppresion in any form, and would start finding people to team up with to defeat them. She'd get pasted going solo, but is crazy enough to try it.

Stone .. would uphold the law to the utmost, which means everyone gets a fair trial first .. finding a team to join to oppose them would be top of the list.

Hmm...Alex Raven would probably join up with the Super team to bring down those that have kept the majority from having a "voice" in the world.

Rapport would try to stay out of the way of the big league players and do what he has been doing to take care of street crime.

Re: What would you character do...

Since they've killed people on purpose Husky will be ready to oppose them. He'd probably change into Kenneth intending to be outfitted with some high tech armaments. Kenneth, realizing direct confrontation would be dangerous (even as Husky), would try to develop some kind of military plan and provide said plan to other Heroes. The trouble will be creating a plan that allows Husky to appear central while not requiring him to make any vital decisions. He'll also design and fabricate specialized weapons to take down the opposition. Once the plan was in motion he'd change into Husky. Husky would probably disregard his role in the plan and attack head on. Husky will then take a severe beating. But Husky never stays down.

I actually plan to run this scenerio in one of my games.

Apex-He'd denounce them, gather other heroes, and do his damndest to bring them down. They're an abomination to the heroes he used to revere as a child, and he won't have his own child raised in a tolitarian state eventually claimed by some self appointed Uber Judges/Jury/Executioners. If they have masks that are not shielded, he'd have no qualms about using his X-Ray vision to get a good long look at their faces.

Recluse-The Song "I'm in over my head" comes to mind. Recluse would probably try to spy on them to learn more of their plans, and then get some more respectable super hero team's help, as he's currently a loner and not ready for this. He's not used to this power level though, so I imagine he would get detected despite his small size, and end up running for his life!

Wildcard-Wildcard doesn't kill, but he's the closest thing to a dark champion I've got currently and wouldn't shed many tears either when he heard about corrupt CEOs etc dying. It would probably take others in his life making comments about it to motivate him, OR things would have to get a lot more extreme than described. If they came to Atlantic City, he might get riled. THat's 'his' playground.

Re: What would you character do...

Warp: Not only is he a member of an Avengers/JLA level super team, but he has a Hatred of Casual Killers as well. Add in the fact that his father Franklin Stone has probably going to be a target of theirs if they haven't killed him already and he'll be chomping at the bit to have the New Sentinels take them down.

Spectrum: An Air Force Colonel, I'm sure he would be ordered posthaste to capture or kill them as threats to national security. And he'd be enthusiastic about following those orders, considering the team a bunch of terrorists.

Mystic: "Don't these fools know their ruthless methods and the rage they're inspiring in others only strengthens The Dragon? They must be stopped!"

Starguard -- in order for this scenario to have happened, her and the New Sentinels would already have to be dead.

Dr. Pain -- find some people to team up with and work against them, probably. He's out of his depth here.

Baron von Darien -- profess admiration for their methods. Ask to join them. Very carefully study them over a period of time.

And then pull a "Judas Contract" and kill them all.

Re: What would you character do...

These guys are killers and though Twilight will occasionally kill if there's no other choice, he's very against indiscriminate killing like they're doing. In addition to that, they likely remind him far to much of his supervillianous father Mr. Dark. Needless to say he wants to take them down HARD.

He'll likely work with his mentor Lady Midnight [essentially a Batman clone, only female] and Knightraven [think Luke Cage's powers with Shang Chi's fighting ability and a flight harness] to rally whatever resistance they can against them, all the while training as hard as he can to bring his own skills up to a high enough level to help out as much as he can.

Re: What would you character do...

Peacekeeper's Response: Peacekeeper considers non-sanctioned superhumans who use their powers to mete out "justice" to be criminals. Since this group is not recognized by a legitimate authority on Earth, Peacekeeper would consider them a supervillain team - even if they limited their targets to the most evil and vicious men. The Jet City Sentinals are on equivalent power level to the JLA, and so Peacekeeper would attempt to convince his (government sanctioned) teammates to combat this menace.

Iron Demon's Response: "It's about damn time someone else realized there's a war going on out there!"

Given both Blackcat and Ballistic are in JLA range of power (she's a martial artist that can deal 25+ dice with superpush, and he is a supersuit supermage with amazing versitility) they would likely be dead having tried to stop them in the first place. If for some reason they were not around (say off dimensional) they and they teams would give these clowns a smackdown.

Cat killed a supervillian once. She went to prison for it (oh and what a great plot that was), and would insist that the same standards apply.

Ballistic is an ex cop - but cops shoot people, superheroes don't. Once that line is crossed you become a villian no matter how noble your intentions.

Yes both these character were played in a comics code game.

Terminal velocity would have no idea what to do. He is a beginning speedster and would feel completely and totally out of his leauge (his team was beaten up by Ogre all by himself)

Re: What would you character do...

Possible reactions of my current faves:

Darknight (teleporting supernatural avenger type)

Is not the political type, and probably would not concern himself with it unless his city seemed to be threatened.

Avalon (idealistic Ukrainian energy projector speedster)

Would try to organize her friends and allies into opposing the new regime, with the intent of convincing them to step down, using force against them if necessary -- but only if necessary. Once they stepped down (or were taken down), she would take it for granted that they would be tried for any crimes they had committed.

Dr. Redgrave (super-scientist Dr. Octopus type)

Would offer to assist the new regime in the construction of a government based on logic, reason, and the unfettered pursuit of the sciences (which would require, among other things, the elimination of any arbitrary restrictions on research, the elimination of any sort of regulation of consensual trade or financial transactions, and near-absolute freedom of speech/expression/programming/what-have-you).

Re: What would you character do...

The Mask of Justice: "This must be a Nazi plot!" Assuming they give press conferences, Nick Philips will be there to check out what these so-called "heroes" are really like under their masks.

Rock Bottom: Given these folks must somehow have gotten the Global Guardians out of the way (or they'd already be cooling their heels in supercells), there's not a lot Rock can do except keep the peace in Baltimore. If his team leader decides that the New Guard has to fight these thugs, Rock will get religion again (the last Baltimore team was all killed because they recklessly attacked someone way nastier than they were.)

Calculus: "I'll need all the information you have on these people. They must have a weakness."

Kira Midori: If they come within her jurisdiction, she'll attempt to arrest them. But she'd rather work with a nice large superteam on the effort.

Talion: "Yo! You, tough guy! I hear your mother (horrible slur that can only be answered by death.)" He can survive having his spine removed through his nose, can they?
