Re: Amazing Lightsaber Duel

Two or three guys with homemade equipment outdo Lucasfilms in terms of choreography. This was a lot more dramatic than the outrageous wu xia stuff we were given in Ep's I-III. At least you can follow the action.

Out of curiosity' date=' is the name of either one of those "Duel"?[/quote']One is the Art of the Saber by the Ho brothers. Very dramatic. Not at all trying to keep within the Star Wars paradigm. The other is Ryan vs. Dorkman. Very well done as well, though kind of silly, looking as if it had been shot in the high school metal shop or something. :) The fight was well cool.

On a related note, the Ryan part of that team has done at least one more, though his counterpart wasn't as convincing as "Dorkman".

.... music? Dialogue? I didn't notice. I just like watching bright shiney things whirling around. =)

I do like the Wushu stuff from the Ho brothers. Neat stuff. The Bryan vs. Dorkman one was pretty amusing as well, with a more traditional style like the older movies with some extra flair. Enjoyed them both!

Of course, it was the same for the recent star wars movies for me... bright shiney things whirling around. Didn't notice much in the way of dialogue or music. It was just in the way of the shiney... oooh, a quarter!

Re: Amazing Lightsaber Duel

Both of the fights feature pretty good SFX and choreography but the music and dialog of Art of the Saber is pretty cheesy. The speech was stolen from a Civil War letter and the music was just sort of annoying.

"stolen" is a strong word, since they credited it.

I found it an interesting tidbit and backdrop to the duel; made it stand out.

And I liked the music, personally.

Re: Amazing Lightsaber Duel

Yeah, I saw those videos last year (along with a whole bunch more. There are several others that are worth noting, though Art of the Saber and the Dorkman fight are two of the best)

Although I have to say that I absolutely love the Wuxia stuff in the new movies...in fact, I wish they would've went a little more wuxia to the point of using HK fight choreographers, but what can you do. There's always the TV series.

Re: Amazing Lightsaber Duel

thought you guys might want to know they have done a sequel its if anything even better

The choreography and SFX are very good. They obviously put a lot of time and effort into this. But it is a little distracting to see a couple of obviously modern-dressed people in a normal everyday setting going at it with well done light sabers. I mean couldn't they have least made an effort at more Star Wars looking costumes and backdrops?

Re: Amazing Lightsaber Duel

Really? You actually felt that the Revenge of the Sith Anakin/Obi-Wan fight scene was good?

I guess I sort of hate to say it, but I found it to be ... bad. Even extraordinarily bad. Illogical, even. A led to B led to Q led to F led to ... well, I guess it just didn't 'work' for me.

I can see what you mean. I wasn't a huge fan of it, but considering what suck-pots the two actors are, the battle turned out okay... less than a total debacle. =) I actually kind of enjoyed the Obi-won versus Jango Fett fight, as it was amusing and different. Though, I should say, Obi-Won's actor wasn't a bad actor, just not a particularly good stunt guy.

Overall, the best fight (minus end move) was fight with Darth Maul in the first film, just because at least someone in there had some knowledge of the technical elements. Its a common trick of choreography, if you have one guy that's actually good at something and a couple of actors who aren't, you put a couple of them against the guy to amp up the action a bit rather than have the one guy who knows what he's doing to have to slow way the heck down to make the other guy look decent. And, it looked freakin' sweet.

The whole Darth Maul standing there like a retard while Obi-Won did a big, long, slow jump over his head, landed, set, and then spin around to cut him... all with a dumb look on his face... that was stupid.

As a whole, all the shiny sticks flying around is enough for most everyone except hardcore action fans who are all too accustomed to much more skillful choreography. =)

Re: Amazing Lightsaber Duel

I thought the Anakin vs Obi-Wan fight in Revenge was a bit of a let down. Some of the choreography was "okay", but it didn't even surpass the three way lightsabre battle in TPM.

I thought the Force Battle between Yoda and Palpatine was a much better climactic battle than Anakin vs Obi-Wan. That was something I had been waiting 20+ years to see and I wasn't dissapointed.

Park also worked with Neeson and McGregor, training them for their roles.

Park also played Toad in X-Men.

Yeah, I'm aware, I just didn't want to let on my level of geekness in that regard. =)

Almost forgot about the Yoda fight... cool to see Yoda, the other guy kind of sucked, even if he was once the white wizard... =)
